It depends on a lot of things.

For example:
-What panel type is it (VA, TN, or IPS)?
-Will you work with it? (Photo/Art/CAD etc)
-If you game will your computer run games at 1440 well?
-What's the refresh rate on it?
-What's the response time of the panel?

I have the privilege of owning a TN 1440p, 144hz, 1ms reponse time panel at 24 inches and an older 24 inch IPS panel at 1080p, 60hz, 6ms rt.

Despite all the fancy tech the TN panel has, it has color and contrast limitations and content in true 1440p still looks worse on the TN. It's nice for actual work on the desktop and makes all elements like text and images look crisp.

Even on a 24" screen It will look much better than 1080p, but you'll have to use scaling so you won't benefit from having increased workspace.
