your anime is already upscaled from 720p to 1080i, then downscaled back. another step won't make it any uglier.

I'm going to assume that by "2k" you mean 2560x1440. (It's not quite the correct term, but I'll leave my display format autism for another post.)

All I can tell you is that I watch 720p and 1080p content on my 1440p monitor frequently and it looks excellent. I use mpv and I consider myself quite sensitive to video quality. Having said that, I don't watch much anime and I'm not sure if it has special scaling considerations.
