Why haven't you switched from Android to Linux on your mobile devices yet? Even a Raspberry Pi makes a better power user device than any lagdroid phone/tablet. First of all it has HDMI and 4 full sized usb ports.

ive always wanted to have something nice and lightweight running on my little tablet, but i never figured out how i could boot into an ISO on it! please teach me senpai, how can i do that?
>>
>>61395179
buy raspberry pi or run Linux on top of android using Linux Deploy.
>>
>>61395198
ah, well i do have a raspberry pi already. how would i go about using a tablet as a screen though? vnc?
>>
>>61395198
>run Linux on top of android using Linux Deploy.
now we are just stacking laglinux over lagdroid
solves nothing
>>
>>61395224
Yes. You can even set up a VNC connection via
USB.

>>
>>61395374
b-but vnc connection to use as a monitor is retarded?
>>
>>61395350
That's why I bought a Raspberry pi Screen and connected a proper keyboard to it.
Running linux on top of Android sucks balls. Use native linux.
>>
>>61395386
No, why?
VNC via USB is pretty fast. Get a proper keyboards and mouse, hook them up to RPI and get a fast VNC client like that open source one.
>>
Because your setup is not very mobile. FFS you got parts all over.

I'm waiting for my case to arrive.
It's a multitouch display you know?
I'll just glue the battery pack on the right side of the device and connect keyboard only when I need it.

I want my Thunderbird on my mobile device.

Today on "How autistic can you be" we have all of /g/ competing against OP!

That looks fucking awesome dude. I've always wanted to do something like this, and I actually have money now.
I now have a new project idea. Thanks.
>>
>>61399799
The "Rock64" supposedly can.
It can also do it at 4k.

https://liliputing.com/2017/07/rock64-quad-core-4k-ready-single-board-pc-25.html
>>
>>61399840
Yea, once I get it up and running on cabled power I'm going to buy a drone battery and put it where the regular battery would be.
I have to check the specification for the first.
Apparently they build a charge controller into the board as well so it will charge through the red board you see in the picture.
You just plug it into a power source with a micro USB cord.

>>61399876
4k output capability doesn't mean it can play 4k content

>Even a Raspberry Pi makes a better power user device

How'd you figure, when it's aimed at Low power and not a lot of power users use a:> Linux or b:>BSD - ever since the threat landscape changed and they realised the "bank" and a load of insider traders was fucking them all slowly in the ass!

Best buy: Backdoored Chips & Mirror Trading!

Is there a way to use cellular data with a rig like this? If so I'm all for it
>>
I've been considering/looking into installing Linux on my Blackberry 8800 so that I can use my own programs easily (and in the language of my choice)
I only use it for phone calls and SMS at the moment and it'd be nice to be able to access my email without connecting to a Blackberry Enterprise server
>>
>>61394698
Actually I did, kinda. See:
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/76993-debian-on-crystal/

This was years ago, just then devicetree changes for Linux on ARM happend and debian for embedded was killed (kinda).

To bad, it was really hard for me to get to this point, I just didn't have the will to jump through another bunch of rings and bark to get things done on linux. Thus, video accerelation an sound never worked on this port. The tablet now collects dust as the android is outdated and I have no idea on how to build linux on it today even if I wanted to do it.

You have to get a dongle supported by linux kernel and with unlocked voice/sms capabilities for example Teracom 7.2Mbps 3G USB Data Card
>>
>>61394698
Because most SoC manufacturers provide sources only for android, and these drivers don't work with actual GNU/Linux. I'd love to have an actual Linux phone that isn't out of date in every single way like n900/n9 or basically impossible to buy like Jolla devices.
>>
>>61406439
that's why I tell you to get a linux microcomputer and hook it up to touchscreen.

Good enough?
>>
I'd just like to interject for a moment, what you refer to as linux is in fact gnu/linux which uses the linux kernel as with android.
>>
>>61406593
Well, on most non-rooted android devices there is no GNU coreutils, so that's not GNU/Linux.
>>61406567
It's not about size, it's about the fact that it would disassemble in my pocket, or that I would have to assemble the whole device when I want to use it. The closest to good portable GNU/Linux device is Pyra, but it doesn't really exist as of yet, and is too expensive. But at least Pyra doesn't look like a bomb to non-technical people.

In theory OPIE can still be build.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Palmtop_Integrated_Environment
http://opie.sourceforge.net/wiki/Features
https://github.com/opieproject/opie
It got some nice updates.
There is even the ability to run X11 Applications (if added to the build) but the API is pretty well documented http://opie.sourceforge.net/wiki/DocsHowTo so building native Applications shouldn't be to hard.

However I really just tried to build it myself and failed. "Qvaluestack.h 52:40:error" something.

It would be so cool if some anon would decide to revive this. It still uses the Qt-embedded-2.3.10 Version of the toolchain. Basically when it was still in the Hands of Trolltech. After Nokia aquired it, it went superbloat and post-Nokians take the bloat as how it is.
