Does anyone here actually use Gentoo?
>>61387595
I used it for a while, but I've been using Arch for the last 6 years and I haven't looked back.

I might try it once it hits the Windows Store.

No, it's just a meme, we tell normie to install Gentoo because we want the to have a bad time.

i use mint cinnamon for my HTPC/NAS because it just works and actually looks good. I use lubuntu on my laptop because its old as fuck (Core2duo) and that's impressively pretty for how well it runs.
i don't see anyone using it as a starting OS or as an endgame OS (in fact i don't see any gentoo in the screenfetch thread at all).
why should i use it other than "le install gentoo maymay."?
I would assume since there's people here who waste their time on this shit rather than do something productive.
Hell if you're going to waste your time like this at least have some goddamn fun.

>emerge wpa-supplicant

Yeah, nah.
>>61387595
Not quite.
I have both Gentoo and Funtoo set up in a VM, no real reason though, just something to mess about when I can be bothered to.

Hell yes. It just the most customizable version of GNU/Linux ever. For people who like knowing exactly what goes on in their system and value speed and security, it's worth checking out.
And it's not hard to install. It's hard to configure properly and completely. But only because it requires a good amount of knowledge of your own hardware and the software you wish to run on it. In other words, you just have to do a lot of reading.
>complaining about compile times
You can actually download pre-compiled binaries but of course that defeats the purpose of a distro which allows full optimization. Compile times are a con, that's all there is to it. But there are ways to significantly decrease the wait time and it also depends a lot on your hardware. Compiling everything the first time on my i7-2640M x220 took about five hours. For a single program like a new Firefox version, easily under an hour.
