Why are linux Desktop enviorments so shit? After using all of them i've finally setltled on KDE but obviously it's still a buggy piece of shit.
heres my notes:
every time you change wallpaper the entire session crashes and restarts
have to hit "Log out" / "Reboot" multiple times to actually take effect from start menu
Various steam games will randomly break Kwin and have no boarders.
Various steam games open on wrong monitor with graphical glitches
Various steam games black screen and crash the whole system.
When using the QT filepicker fix for Firefox on KDE, i sometimes have to hit Browse > upload multiple times for it to actually select the picture....
cant resize steam window (random?)
alt+tab behavior is laggy and not immediate. need to hold button?
multi-monitor behavior is shitty. the display settings dialogue is glitchy and Cloning/Unify is generally buggy and broken.

Why is it so hard to get a semi-functioning linux desktop enviorment?

delet this right now

like, why?
>KDE is shit
Color me surprised
>>61379227
Just use Openbox or something? Why even use a DE? Buggy and Bloated.
>>61379227
Just use Windows. Linux is a waste of precious lifetime that you could use to harbor new hobbies, go to parks, meet cute girls, improve your professional skills, spend time with your family etc.

works on my machine

KDE is utter shit, this is common knowledge
>Why is it so hard to get a semi-functioning linux desktop enviorment?
it's pretty easy actually. just install arch and some tools that are needed (terminal emulator, window manager, launcher, bar, network manager, etc.) then you have a working system for then next couple of years. and when you get a new machine you just install arch again, get all your packages automatically using backed up package list and clone your configs from your git repo
Because you're using Arch, which means you have untested, unstable, buggy and regression-filled software.

This. Use Debian for up-to-date, stable, tested, and progression-filled software.

no, that's because he's using KDE

kde works on my debian sid machine
wasted quads
>>61379227
you should try using a lightweight wm with a nice panel and a menu, KDE is kinda large and large usually means trouble
>>61379976
youve never actually used arch, have you? ive used it for 2 years now, and ive never had any major problems with it. things can get messed up when new software comes out, because like you said, its pretty close to upstream and untested, but the devs usually give out warning about these issues on their front page, and instructions on how to fix/avoid the issue. i always check the front page before doing pacman -Syu and i havent experienced any serious breakages so far. "le bleeding edge" software doesnt necessarily mean extremely unstable or buggy software.

Our wallpaper choices were:
1) green command line prompt on a dark background
2) see 1)
Here's an idea. Instead of switching wallpapers all the time, save an image you like, open up the file and look at it for a minute or two, then close the file, and get back to work.
if you hate linux DEs so much why don't you just make your own
