What's so shitty about it? I've already made my buy so I guess it doesn't matter. Is it just because stuff isn't where you usually expect it to be?
>>
>>61371327
Its nice that the numpad on the model M SSK can do alt codes

75% is a great layout, the best compact layout IMO. The only thing bad about it is finding alternate keycap sets.

If you want compact get a compact 80% its a shame they aren't as popular and only korean customs make them

Rocking a Rantopad MXX I bought a couple weeks ago, liking it so far. Tkl with gateron blacks/browns/blues (reds went mia, out of stock maybe). It does have fixed height and shit abs caps, but from what I've gathered with the fellow /g/entoomen it seems to be 100% mx compatible, so the latter is fixable down the road with a nice set of pbt keycaps. Oh and it should you well below your $100 limit.

>>
>>61374775
5) Form factor
Specifies the amount of keys your keyboard will have:
- 100% - full keyboard with function keys, navigation section and numpad,
- 80% or TKL (tenkeyless) - usually without numpad, but there are also keyboards without arrows instead,
- 60% - no numpad, function and navigation keys are on a function layer.
- 65-75% - different variations of previously described.

Lol you couldn't be any more wrong.
Those percentages just specify the size of the keyboard.
This keyboard is 60% yet it has a numpad and navigation keys.
>>
>>61374864

this
>>61374489
is a 75%

an 80% is standard tkl, even though its closer to 85%

>>61374885

it's got nothing to do with the size retard, it's the number of keys compared to a 100%

>>61374925
It does tho. 60% is 15u X 5u. Doesn't matter what keys you put there. For All I care it could be nothing buy shift keys, if it fits in that footprint its 60%
>>
>>61375163
no it's not
>>
>>61374864
75% and similar layouts require a slightly nonstandard layout to squeeze the bottom row because of the arrow keys. this can be solved in different ways for example with 1u alt+fn+ctrl or with 5.5u spacebar or with 1.5u ctrl+alt + 7u spacebar + 1.5u alt+ctrl
>>
>>61375243
oh and the 1.75u right shift instead of 2.75u to make room for the up arrow key

It does tho. 60% refers to the size of the keyboard compared to a full size, hence the percentage. Do the math
62/104 = 59.6%
The size of the keyboard has nothing to do with the layout of the keys. They could all be function keys and as long as it fits that size its a 60%

>>61375529
they do it because of
>tradition
>pre-existing molds
>aesthetics (flipped spacebar looks out of place to normies)
>the user can flip it themselves

when the keyboard maker can design their own keycaps from scratch, it's not that uncommon for them to make spacebars that are shaped/tilted differently
>>
>>61375531
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHAFpK-0hug
>>
>>61375576
A lot of keyboards don't allow for flipped space bars because the manufacturers never considered it to be important to anyone. The proper typing position should keep your thumbs well above the space bar, not resting on a slanted space bar so I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be flipped.
>>

Is this the most autistic general on /g/? Holy shit, just buy a fucking keyboard, you don't need changing keys, you don't need arguing what's best between 100% or whatever, hell most of you probably don't even have use for a mechanical keyboard in the first place.

I like how it looks and feels a very lot but it's not very comfortable to shoot, the steel-on-aluminum delay mechanism is worrying and lots of people have feeding failures, though I do not. It's very easy to rack and the trigger is a lot like MX Blue switches actually, staging with a clean break and loud snap on press and not much noise or sensation on reset.

i have a noppoo choc mini rgb. in terms of quality it's probably not really better than your quickfire tk if you have aftermarket keycaps on the quickfire. you would get the noppoo if you like the layout. the 5.5u spacebar and the 1.75u right shift limit your keycap choices but they are possible to find. your pic is an old version which has a different frame and a slightly awkward bottom row. i would recommend the plum84 which is basically the same as one of the modern versions of noppoo choc mini and it's programmable (only the RGB version of noppoo choc mini is programmable afaik).

Kailh changed their molds so they should be good now. First gen Kailh switches are absolute crap, but if you grab their speed or box switches, then you're getting a decent switch on the level of Gateron.

God, who needs a 100% keyboard when my 3% keyboard has everything you need. >>
>>61377190
It's decent, and I think the keycaps are actually PBT too. The biggest problem is you will NEVER find a 5.5u spacebar ever, so you're stuck with those keycaps forever. The non-removable cable is lame too, and I think there are better keyboards around that price, but it's still a decent board.
>>
>>61377725
I honestly feel like they're worse. Mushy feeling. I'm typing on one right now. Perhaps better suited for gaming, but generally typing they're just OK.
>>
>>61377932
If you actually like the flat feeling of DSA profile, then sure; I think they feel like chiclets. The only other problem is the non-standard esc and del key, so finding keycaps will be pretty tough, and I think the only guys that make those keys are SP. So you only have the option of too flat DSA, or waiting 2 years to get an SA set that's too high.

If you're one of the few that actually like DSA, then do it.

Gateron has a way smoother actuation and the spring doesn't freak out when it's going back to reset. I think most people don't like it just because the spring is lighter than Cherry. And with Outemu, you actually have to worry about the consistency of each switch. Cherry sounds better than both though. I did hear a rumor that Outemu is actually trying to make good switches now and have changed their molds, but I would stay away in the meantime.

The best might have to be Kailh box or speed switches though. Linear switches with a "click bar" sounds pretty cool.

Are Outemus technically 'mechanical feel' switches?

I can press them down until they snap, then lift a little, then keep tapping it, and it registers the strokes without it making the click. Also if I'm really really careful about pressing it (like, holding one of the direction keys my finger and thumb), I can get it to make the click noise without actually registering any keystroke at all.

Anyone else encounter this with Outemus, or any other type of blue switch?

Quick question; should I get an Anne Pro this week or wait two weeks and get a Pok3r.

Money is a bit tight and will be for the foreseeable future so curious if the $30~ difference is worth it. I have a set of keycaps I'll use so that doesn't matter.
>>
Where can I get some high quality backlit keys at an affordable price?
Kinda new to this whole keyboard thing and want to make this my first mod.
>>
>>61383778
The Anne Pro is arguably better than the Pok3r. Gateron switches are smoother than Cherrys too, but for clicky, it's debatable which is better. So here's what to take into account.

>Gateron Brown > Cherry Brown
>Gateron Red > Cherry Red
>Gateron Blue >= Cherry Blue

Pok3r has an aluminum case while Anne Pro doesn't. If you really want to upgrade in the future though, it's quite easy to get a case for the Anne Pro (plastic cases are better for portability anyway). Both come with PBT keycaps (unless you go for Pok3r RGB, but Anne Pro has RGB anyway). I saw pick up the Anne Pro.

i like the k70. the keycaps that come with it is godawful though. also their open board design really accentuates the dust, it gets dirty real quick.

what kind of keycaps does the logitech g710 have?

ABS like all the other GAYMAN peripheral companies.

CoolerMaster do PBT on the Masterkeys I think

Cooler Master is an odd duck compared to mainstream brands. They even had a Topre board once.

I have an eagle z-77. I love it, and have no complaints. I have somewhat of an itch to buy a new keyboard that isn't cheap chink shit just because, but can't come up with a reason why, since I feel pretty happy with this one. Should I just stick with it, or am I really missing something with a better model?

there is no real justification for owning multiple mechanical keyboards other than being hobbyists.

so yeah buy another one because i know i am

Thanks guys for the answer.
I have the stock keycaps on the quickfire, it just never occurred to me that they are considered bad.
The programming ability of the Plum84 is certainly a nice addition. Is the Gateron version available with the grey/white stock keycap set? I really like the looks of it but I've only found it on the Topre clone variants.
>>
I need a new keyboard at my workplace and I can't decide on the switch type. Currently I'm using cherry mx browns and while I don't have any problem with it I want to try out something different but still reasonably quiet.
What do you recommend?

Matias Quiet Pro or Topres.

Depends on how trustworthy the coworkers are. Matias and Topre are pretty expensive boards to be laying around.

>>61385273
Ali is basically amazon for china. Now chink sellers can always be sketchy so exercise common sense, but aliexpress as a website is just fine - they try to remove fakes and ban scam listings, they offer full refunds of you don't receive your item, and alipay (the chinese paypal) is perfectly safe.
>>
>>61385273
Aliexpress is the best place to buy Chink shit. Go into a /csg/ and you'll find almost everyone exclusively buys from them.

Then there's always clears, or gateron browns. But if you limit yourself to "mainstream"/cheap (aka cherry and clone switches), and you want quiet, you're basically stuck with their tactile or linear ones.

Now cherry browns are considered very mushy and bad by most people, so gat browns could be a much better experience. Clears are heavier if you're into that. Linears are, well, linear, which most people don't like for typing but you could always give them a try.

If you can spare the expense though definitely consider matias quiets or topre. Try them out if you can before choosing - they're both high-quality quiet switches, but in every other regard they're extremely different.

I'm considering buying a WASD with greens, does anyone have any experience with them?

They're pad-printed crap that are only manufactured to make as many different user-created keycaps as possible. Actually durability takes a backseat, so they're shit.
>>
>>61385652
>Now cherry browns are considered very mushy and bad by most people

You mean /g/. I do agree the tactile feel is very light but that doesn't mean cherry browns are bad.

So KBDfans offer the TADA68 in DIY form now, you can use superior PCB mount stabilisers, any meme switches you want and save money. What reasons are there left to not get it?

It's not though. The M13 had a genuine TrackPoint II. The Endurapro has a pointing stick with a totally different technology. Unlike the TrackPoint, which barely moves at all when pushed, it has a lot of movement, like a regular joystick.

That being said, even the TrackPoint II on the genuine M13 is nearly useless for modern computing, because it has an old low speed curve designed for low resolution displays of the early 90s. I haven't used an Endurapro personally, so I'm not sure how it is in regards to speed curve. Neither the Endurapro or the M13 have a center button, which is another huge issue because there's no easy way do scrolling.

Sadly, neither of them will come close to the experience of a TrackPoint IV (what you'd find on a modern ThinkPad).

Only good things

>aluminum plate

And I won't bring up media keys because every board that's programmable or has function layers has them too, they're not really a feature. Also your spacebar is fucked and putting CORSAIR on the number row makes you look like a huge tool.

If you really wanted RGB, you should've gotten this for the same price, but it's way better quality:

And if you wanted a cheaper board that's better than both, you should've gotten this:

>PBT keycaps
>standard fucking layout instead of manufacturing boards with cheap 1.5u alt/ctrl keys and 6.5u spacebars
>removable cable

There are plenty of good boards with PBT keycaps today, it's not 2010 anymore. The trash companies that sell gamershit to children don't care and release the same ABS trash because that's all that idiots know for mech boards. So you're stuck with cheap ABS keycaps in OEM profile that will each up shiny, instead of being able to buy PBT keycaps in Cherry profile that'll never wear because Corsair wants to save money with shit layouts.

Buy Ducky, Filco, Varmilo, or Leopold next time.

Look at your jizz-stained hands. Your disgusting sweaty hands destroy ABS plastic, and PBT has a texture to them that makes them much better to type on. You should've stayed out of this general, you're only going to know pain.

I'll admit it was probably overpriced, I mean I got it at Best Buy, but I wash my hands regularly, so
>>
>>61387744
You still don't get it. Unless you wear gloves, your keycaps are fucked.

Why do you think you have to wear gloves to solder? Your hands are ALWAYS oily. It's just a matter of time, unless of course, you bought a good keyboard with PBT caps.

Wait a minute, doesn't Best Buy have a 30 day return policy if you have the receipt?
