So, I disassembled a broken hard drive for safe disposal.

I took out the platters and scratched them with a pick.

Now, can I throw them in the recycling bin?

What other parts can I throw into the recycling bin?

Or, do I have to take them to a special electronics recycling place?

So you know for the future, this belongs in /sqt/.
Don't throw any of it in a recycling bin. Keep the magnets and just chuck the rest. If you're super paranoid about your data, keep the platters. Use them as mirrors that don't instantly break when you drop them. Or smash them and then throw it out.

That's ewaste. It goes in a special place at your local landfill. You could also probably take it to a computer store and they'll recycle it for free/cheap.
