so i decided to switch from Windows 10 to Linux. I have no prior experience with Linux. I want to see what /g/ would recommend I start doing.

start out with a *buntu or mint
they are pretty user-friendly
>>61364564
Start with Ubuntu gnome, move over to (or start with) Xubuntu if you want to customize your desktop
instell gentoo

do this for a while
after a while, if you want to switch distros, you'll know what you want to be different and have an idea what you might like to switch to.
I second xubuntu

Xubuntu if you want to start with a minimal environment and customize it to your liking. Kubuntu if you prefer a more windows-like desktop environment out-of-the-box, don't mind the bloat, and have modern hardware.
After you get situated I recommend installing virtualbox and watching some youtube videos on how to use it in order to sandbox other distros you might want to try before installing them onto your host machine to replace ubuntu. However, don't feel like you have to stop using ubuntu just because of all the social signaling here on /g/ to use something like arch, gentoo, or debian. Ubuntu is perfectly fine for 90% of users. Always ask yourself what it is that you really need from some other distro before you consider switching. Chances are, you really don't need to switch.

>install loonix
>rice desktop

Or
>install linux distro of choice
>rice desktop
>customize terminal
>install basic apps
>enjoy your custom environment and personalized workflow
>realize you can do everything you used to do in Windows here, for free, with total freedom and control, so linux becomes your main OS
>keep a small windows partition for dual-booting whenever you want to play games on the side
OP here, one last question
who in the fuck is this man?

Keep your windows 10 and get a small ssd and stick mint on it. Then install your windows 10 in a vm. Back up your data. Keep a text cookbook of linux stuff that you do. Fuck around with mint until you break it and you'll be learning linux. If your bored with mint then move on. If you hate then you've still got your windows 10.
Start with mint and windows 10 in a vm. If you browsing the web and getting other things done while windows is updating etc doesn't allow you so see utility in linux then nothing will.
Linux applications are not as slick as the commercial counterparts so you'll have to do some forgiving. You'll know if the extra work is worth the advantages. I've found them to be. I'm not a windows hater. I use it sometimes and admin a small windows network at a nonprofit. I'd never install it on the metal of my own machine though. I value my own testosterone too much for that.

Stallman, creator of GNU. He's a patron saint of /g/ because he promotes FOSS (free open-source software) and he's usually right about everything.
