i got a wart on the inside of my thumb. how long will it take to go away?

>Warts typically disappear on their own with time, but it may take years.
>A 12-week daily treatment with salicylic acid has been shown to lead to a complete clearance of warts in 10–15% of the cases.
seems a bit extreme? can they go away quicker than that?
>>
so i live with my parents at the moment
they pay for and more importantly bought in the first place the (im not certain i even know the actual term) 'internet subscription service provider package deal' that allows me to browse the internet
i remember being around at my friends house and him saying he had to watch how much he downloaded as they had a limit
so im wondering how i can find out if i have a limit too (and possibly other conditions) without asking them, like a kind of secret mission i guess
like is there a website that can pick up on it or something?
thanks for any help

what makes you think its the panty hoses?
>>
>>61351863
No. Limits are artificially enforced by your ISP. You'll need to find out what plan your parents bought.

You could go to e.g. speedtest.net to find out what your isp is and what speed you're getting, that will narrow your search a bit. If your isp then only offers a few different packages, that may be enough to deduce your limit. Alternatively, if your isp doesn't enforce limits at all, then you're also good to go.

However, if your isp has various packages where you can choose the speed you get and also the limit (independently), you'll need to maybe find a billing slip or something if you don't want to ask your parents directly. Or you could formulate the question to inquire how much they're paying, if you prefer - knowing the price and speed should let you deduce the exact package your parents bought.

I have urgent issue:

Something deleted half of my files on my SSD.

I was running new version of RPCS3 (the PS3 emulator) and I booted up P4 and did few tests to see how it runs on my machine.

I stopped RPCS3 and decided that I need to reboot to adjust clock speed in bios (i7-6700k 4.0Ghz -> 4.4Ghz ) as I had turned it down earlier. I restarted my computer (from start menu) and Firefox, Explorer and RPCS3 were still running altough the emulator wasn't running any game. There was that grey screen which showed Windows Explorer and Firefox were still busy but it disappeared in couple of seconds.

Bam... After OS came up, half of my files erased. Steam library, important documents and other stuff instantly wiped. I'm not joking. This is on SSD, from where I was running RPCS3 as well.

Has this happened before to anyone? Where should I report it? I'm angry.

Running file recovery (piriform recuva) now if I can salvage something.

None of the operating system logs show anything. At least on Event Viewer, I'm not sure if there are any other places where I should be looking in.

I'm wondering is this caused just by rebooting the computer at wrong time or something to do with the emulator?

There has been single physical issues with my machine, it's about one year old and SSD is probably 6 months old now. I have never ever experienced anything like this during 30 years of computer use.

(Okay, I do have backups of my important files but this is annoying as hell and I'm not sure if I trust to use this drive again).

Seems like the hard disk indices has been broken in weird way. Recuva was running already and I'm examining the files - for example, Witcher 3, Steam game which is almost pristine but has few file entries replaced with a data pointing to another directory on the same disk. So the NTFS data is broken somehow.

Question: Should I run chkdsk first before trying to use file recovery tool?

I have a laptop with the shittiest BIOS imaginable. I'm unable to install an OS using a USB drive and it doesn't have a DVD drive.

I used to install Windows using PXE network boot. I've recently reinstalled Windows using PXE and I was intending to create a Ubuntu dualboot afterwards.

However this piece of shit now completely refuses to boot with PXE so I have very little options left.

I was wondering if it would be possible to take out the secondary harddrive I intended to use for Ubuntu, Install it on there and then modify the boottables to set it as a boot option after I place it back into my laptop.

Can I make OpenVPN work for AWS?

I just went to the electronics store to buy a new webcam. I asked one of the employees (a nice, middle aged lady) if it's compatible with Linux.
She said she doesn't know, and went on her computer to check.
As she asked me "by the way, what is Linux?", she opened up Internet Explorer.

Why do people like this still exist and how can they work in an electronics store?
>>
Make sure you and the VPN are forwarding the correct ports. Adapter binds, killswitches and firewalls can also kill your connection.
Proxy doesn't encrypt your traffic so your ISP will see what you're doing with your connection although it's still better than nothing. It's best used as tunnel within the tunnel as added security. Use a separate or virtual machine to connect to the VPN if you want to browse web without it.

I stopped one of the fan on my GPU for a second to check where a noise was coming from. When I let go it didn't spin again, I pushed it with my finger and it spinned. Now it seems to spin normally though both fans don't start at the same time when I boot (the one I stopped starts a bit after). With MSI afterburner I increased speed and decreased it and it seems to work ok.

Did I fucked that fan? Could it fail anytime now?

Pretty much.
On Linux, hidden files/folders are typically system-related or otherwise important, and shouldn't be tinkered with by a user who doesn't know what he's using. So having the files hidden makes the OS more user-friendly, because you're unlikely to fuck something up that you can't even see.

This is proving quite challenging.
I "obtained" the backup file of a microsoft sql server.
It contains 180 tables, but the data i need is divided in 10 tables.
the problem is that there is no relation between these values.
the fields don't even have a name, it's just more numbers.
and what - I think - is supposed to be an ID field doesn't match up with the data displayed in the frontend.

is there a way to "understand" a database without documentation?
this is also my fist approach at "advanced sql", as in "i've never actually done anything more complicated than SELECT *"

Yup, I want to at least double my current capacity and when counting +2 disks for RAID 6, HGST is not an option. I was hoping that with redundant disks reliability wouldn't matter that much. The price difference between WD, Seagate and Toshiba isn't that big so I'm leaning towards WD right now. I guess I will dig through some backblaze data to confirm it (although I don't think they used WD Blue specifically).

>>
>>61360541
>transistors deteriorate
nope.
Caps do dry out lose their capacity with time though, especially if run at high temperatures. The PSU technically COULD still deliver as much power as it was new, but the voltage gets noisier and dips way below spec on boot or CPU/GPU load.
>>
Do CPUs deteriorate over the time? Buying used, locked CPUs for cheap is a good idea?
>>
>>61360625
Yes, but extremely slowly (unless you overvolt them to riddiculous voltages).
I mean, people still run Pentium 4s.
Locked CPUs are not overclockable (by much) and therefore there's little point in overvolting, so it's OK to buy used.
>>
Does Intel architecture allows "gluing" dies together like Ryzen? If they ever drop the mesh thing
>>
>>61360226

>>

>>
>>61360711
It could be the coils then. Whine is the most common noise a coil can make, but it's not the only one.

>>61360720
GPUs are not locked, so there's a higher chance they've been overvolted, but in general, yes.
>>

should I clear my drive and back it up to an external drive? I may or may not have incriminating files like pirated software and torrented movie files and photos and drug information. iduno if this voids the warranty or not and i don't want them to be snitches either
>>
>>61360770
also, I should mention this:
when I say overvolting I mean extreme overvolting. For example 2500K runs at 1.25V stock, but it won't start noticeably degrading until 1.4V or so. Most people (even overclockers) wouldn't run that high voltage.

GPUs pretty much can't degrade until you start soldering resistors onto them to increase the Vcore beyond what's possible by software or even bios mods.

So yeah, nothing wrong with buying used parts.
Other than HDDs and PSUs, you're better off buying those new.

For train sims you want as much per thread CPU performance as you can get, the main ones don't use multiple cores at all, going 7700K (or even 7600K) would be better there, although at the cost of usually worse performance for video work.

1050Ti is reasonable.
>>
>>61361331
thanks for the insight. i know ryzen is great for video editing, but not so much for games. he might play the occasional gta 4 or 5. i think he'll be happy with it.

Do a paperclip test on the PSU, http://www.wikihow.com/Check-a-Power-Supply, if you can get its fan to spin, probably dead mobo, if not, probably dead PSU.

If your client doesn't have an option to generate a magnet link you can just copy the hash to http://www.romanr.info/magnet.html and give it a title. Won't work if it's on a private tracker though.

what? i told him the "next step up" would be a bit more money, and he seems open to it. he wants to try the 1050ti first and return it if it isnt good enough

save yourselves some hassle and go for a gtx 1070, it's so much better and will last much longer before the next upgrade, 1050 ti is barely on par with quite old gpus

you dont ned 1070 unless you're doing 1440p
A 1060 is more then enough for 1080p60fps

Only for core programs such as the kernel or glibc.Almost everything else all that is needed its a logout of the xsession or a restart of the service file

Why does this happen? It's set to run TRIM weekly. This machine is on 24/7 and yet TRIM hasn't run for almost a month. What causes this?

Is there any way to protect certain files from being wiped if I format my hard drive
>>

Just backup them?

the botnet is thinking

ok but the only storage i have is the hard drive itself and Im trying to protect about 140 gigs of data

Then why you are trying to wipe it?

delete everything you don't want and shrink the drive

also any serious answers?

>>

i'm moving it from my old machine to my new one but the drivers are conflicting with the new machine so iv'e been told the easiest way is to just wipe it and reinstall windows
>>
>>61362319
Yes, but you have the option to keep your files when you reinstall windows.
Unless you are going from Windows 7 to 8.1 or 10 because it changes from MBR to GPT and will ask you to fully format your HDD.

You can create another partition, put files there and reinstall windows on the C: partition.
>>
>>61362319
Who doesn't have any form of extra storage? Christ a 32GB SD card costs like $15
>>
>>61362342
And a 500GB HDD is $20~30.
1TB is $45-50.
>>
>>61362341
I am going from windows 7 to windows 10 so how would I do that
>>61362342
I don't want to wait a week for a HDD to ship but I will get one in the future to prevent stuff like this
>>
>>61362375
>From windows 7 to 10
That might be a problem using the first and second method since Windows 7 bootloader is MBR and Windows 10 is GPT, when you run the installer it will ask you to fully format your HDD.
You need another HDD/storage device.

You could just install windows 7.
>>
>>61362375
You could try Sysrep too but its better to reinstall windows.

Sysrep would let you to move your HDD to a new computer without having to reinstall windows.
Its not great but it works, think of it as a quickfix.

Connect your HDD to your old PC, open cmd and paste this:
sysprep /generalize

Then connect it to your new PC.
>>
>>61362416
>when you run the installer it will ask you to fully format your HDD.

It didn't ask me to do this when I upgraded from 7 to 10, but that was in 2015 and I dunno, maybe I had a GPT partition table on there. All I know is my shit was all still there after the upgrade.
>>
>>61362375
you said that you have to move 140GB of data. how big exactly is your HDD?
>>
>>61362416
I can't seem to reinstall windows 7 since i built my new pc using ryzen so none of my usbs seem to work
>>
>>61362458
HDD is 2tb
>>
>>61362476
can't you just make a new partition and throw everything important there?
>>
>>61362462
Because you are missing the USB drivers.
This is a problem with all new chipsets (Intel 1151 socket and AMD AM4 socket).

Your motherboard site should have a utility to add them, just use MSI Smart tools (even if you dont use MSI).
>>
>>61362516
How would I add them, would I download the utlity on the old machine move the hard drive to the new machine then re install windows 7?
>>
>>61351851
cut it off
>>
>>61362543
If they're anything like the ASUS drivers, you run a program that adds them to the Windows ISO file. Then you install with that.
>>
>>61362543
http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/Smart_Tool_1.0.0.17.zip
https://www.msi.com/files/pdf/SMART_TOOL_User_Guide_EN.pdf

Make the installer with Rufus first, then use the Add USB 3.0 drivers option.

Have you already checked its not adware or something else?
Looks weird and is not something common.

>>61362883
scans found on adware

A language doesn't make it malicious.. also i typed gibberish i just wanted to demonstrate it for the video

its google search results
>>
>>61362896
When it comes to chinese sites it usually does.
Run Adwcleaner and disable all extensions, honestly i cant think of something that causes it.
>>
>>61362011
Full device TRIM is very rarely necessary, the regular TRIM after delete that's on by default is enough.
>>
>>61362712
Doesn't matter, they all do the same thing. You can even use the Intel one if you want.
>>
>>61362011
Your SSD will do it when its needed, you dont have to schedule it.
>>
>>61362966
>>61362931
Good to know, still sort of weird that Windows has scheduled it like that by default but doesn't actually do it.
>>
>>61363009
Adwcleaner has been a thing for 2 years now, Malwarebytes bought it last year of how good is it, the devs now work in Malwarebytes.

They're not, its detected as adware for a reason.
>>
>>61362966
Usually true, but sometimes after I delete something with large files like a game or a virtual machine, part of it will remain on the disk even though it's doing self garbage collection and take up space. Running the optimize command gets rid of it.
