2. buy used laptop w/ onboard graphics and 8gb ram, at least 2 cores/threads
3. pirate dev/testing software, use open source software, plan a basic command line/gui network client/server, driver, kernel service, implement basic crypto using apis

5. grab mit ocw classes and check out ee/cs curriculum to find things i need to work on
