My uncle came in my workplace with two 2008 MacBooks and said "save my files and then do whatever you want with them"
Both have lcd broken
One is bad, other has only one bad stripe, but is usable
Now what?
I was thinking about removing lcd lid, an SSD should be fine to make them work. They're pretty usable with external display, hardware keeps up nicely
install arch blind.

Maybe use as a server.

This
LCDs would be way too difficult to replace, just use them with external monitors.

Nice of your uncle to donate two new fireplaces for your house.

if they have firewire on them, you can use some kind of key combination on startup to make them load into disk mode, which lets you connect their hard drives to another machine. you could also manually remove the hard disks but i wouldn't know how to do that exactly on a mac.

It's not hard to replace the LCD with the correct skills and tools. It's less then a 15 min job. Guide here https://youtu.be/RKIcKtTtOqg if your replacing the LCD.
Sell them and buy a mibook air 13
I have already replaced monitors, but this one costs too much I think
do you think that I can totally remove the display and have only the keyboard?
