This phone has the best performance on Android at the moment. And that's what you get. Almost stock with only useful features added with no bloat.

Has a great development platform.
Super snappy with great battery life.

Best phone you can buy
>>

If money isn't an issue, you can go for it. If it is, there are better Android phones.

I wanna continue this conversation.

It's really looking like if I want to root, I'm going to have to specifically seek it out among the small subset of phones that have unlocked bootloaders.

Is this trend only going to continue? Customers must really not care anymore about tinkering with their devices. If this is the case and the way the industry is going, should I just switch to iphone instead?

Forgot to mention I'm on Verizon which preemptively hamstrings me on a lot more phones as well. I didn't realize the VZW version of the Pixel is locked down too...
>>
>>61323487
Yeah I'm aware of that but I think she's used to the Apple UI and would have a lot of trouble with something completely different.

Any idea what price I should be paying for 6s? I've found one (Grade A) for £269 on eBay but no warranty whatsoever and £379 for an Argos (12mo warranty refurbed) one. Don't think I need warranty but don't want to get chinked with some fake iPhone.

To state the obvious, in UK.
>>
>>61323517
Too expensive.
>>61323522
Redmi Note 4 is a good phone and I considered to buy it, but it has a meh camera, so that's why I plan to buy Moto G5.
>>
>>61323491
You don't need a phone with an unlocked bootloader to root (almost no android phone has the bootloader unlocked out of the box), you just need to buy from a manufacturer that allows you to unlock the bootloader, such as Sony, Oneplus, Motorola, HTC, LG (certain models), Xiaomi etc.

>>61323542
Yeah, Verizon doesn't allow the bootloader to be unlocked on their phones so you have to BYOP an (carrier) unlocked phone
>>
>>61323251
What are the most minimalist ROMs? I just want call, text, update my apps, and maybe some firefox browsing.
>>
>>61323562
£269 seems a pretty good price, but it's always better to have warranty imo. As other anon said, iPhone SE is also great. Have you tried to find standard iPhone 6 (without "s")?
>>
>>61323646
Sultan Lineageos 14 is great and Minimalist, with great battery life and integrated privacy features
>>
>>61323601
Is the Moto G5 any better though?
>>
Who else is waiting for the Note 8? My Note 7 last year was amazing and I ain't even mad at Samsung.
>>
>>61323710
Moto G5 is a bit inferior compared to Redmi Note 4, but the reason I want to buy a Moto G5 is incase it's defective, I send it to my local store where I bought it and they repair it or send it to Lenovo to be repaired which can take prob weeks, while for RN4, you send it to China via AirMail or whatever the hell is, and wait for 1+ month to be returned which is something I don't like. Not sure if everything I wrote is correct, I read a lot of opinions of these phones.

My last G4 bootlooped. It was the second replacement, I just got my money back with some credit card insurance.
Was it usable? Sure, the lg uix is acceptable with a decent layer of oem customization. You can easily update and use custom roms either using a unlocked bootloader or installing modified .kdz files to jump between regional updates.

The phone ran hot the last months, I didn't even use it for games or tasks that made use all the processor powerhouse.

The V20, N5x, V10 have all the same issues, LG has been sued these months but they cashed out some law firms to drop them.

If you give me a specific budget I can work you a decent update path so you don't have to google 40 smartphones today.
>>
>>61326423
Nah. Aparrently samsung has some software trigger that kills the phone performance when a new phone goes into sale.

Twitter, google and other places are full of people complaining about their s7's shitting the budget after the s8 was announced.

I'm a Nokia guy but the SOC combined with the half-year US release delay just didn't make sense to me. But that review also suggests that Android is inherently inefficient as fuck regardless of the hardware.

All I've done this far have been downgrading to 6.0.1 to make a backup of the DRM keys on the device, and unlocking the bootloader. The G6 is relatively new, it seems a euro version and the Sprint version have been unlocked, there should be more, but if development is an issue with you, you should probably get the Axon 7, OP3T/5, or the V20

Good phone if you're not an autist
>>
>>61330893
Yeah there's Lineage builds but they all have some camera issues, sometimes it doesn't start or takes a few seconds. Makes snapchat a pain. Also most of the ROMs I've tried all slow down over time, to the point of freezing for minutes at a time and just generally being unbearably laggy.

I think Lenovo's having some trouble with the Nougat build which is why it's taking so long, probably something to do with the drivers, or the SD808 and the fact that it overheats like crazy at points.....idk. Fact is Moto has just been hit or miss on a lot of little shit and it builds up and I'm not sure I can trust them anymore.

Sending in my OnePlus 3 for repair since the battery degraded drastically, and probably going to sell it when I get it back. Is their any phone for $100-$200 that can replace it without much sacrifice?

Battery life just needs to be decent to good and the Android software needs to be stable and USB C would be preferable due to accessories. I'm thinking about getting an iPhone SE for $200 from AT&T or the Moto G4 (not play) from Amazon Warehouse deals for around $90, but heard some issue with the Moto G4 with its digitizer.

I'm probably going to use the phone for around 6-7 months till I eventually replace it with a Pixel 2, iPhone 8 or something.

Is there a reliable place to download APKs for non-gratis proprietary applications?
I am interested in the Nova Launcher Prime. I found it online, but is there a change that they've been tampered with? Obviously I can't just compare hash sums. Or can I?

should I buy the nokia 6 to use while I wait for their new lineup? I need a phone before the end of the month, so I was thinking I'd just get the 6 to tide me over until whatever they're releasing soon(tm)

how easy would it be to resell it? I've never used swappa or anything like that

you want to run software modified by criminals on the same machine that keeps all your dox?
apply a little common sense here anon.

Rock solid device, and I mean that literally, because of the multi-layered plastic composite display - IT IS NOT MADE OF ANY GLASS WHATSOEVER - it's shatterproof and I used to own one and I'd throw it at walls to prove it to people. Scuffed and scratched up the metal frame on it but it always did vastly more damage to the walls than the phone.

microSD card expansion, outstanding battery life, great performance, but it's locked down because it's Verizon for customization/ROMs, it is factory unlocked however for GSM operation which is a major plus and works well on T-Mobile which I use.

A great device, if you can get one in good/great condition for under $150 awesome, even less it's even more awesome.

Which do you think is the best custom rom?
My oneplus one running lineage died on me and im looking into alternatives

i dont think ill prefer random rom's anymore since they never ever get updated

I was thinking of getting a Nokia 3 as a replacement

Opinions?
>>
>>61342425

Lineage works just fine for the OnePlus One, very fast, very smooth, no issues that I've noted. Sure there are dozens of ROMs out there but most of them take customization far too extreme, I don't want the fucking ROM to be that customized by someone else, I want a nice base like Lineage with some minor light modifications and then I add my own using Xposed or something, it's much easier and more useful that way.

Most custom ROMs nowadays should be considered as loaded with bloatware to be honest: yes they're still far leaner than most pure stock ROMs, but all the extra BS in them doesn't really help where a nice base like Lineage or pure AOSP (no fucking MLP pony horsey bullshit, maggots, no fucking kang BS either) is the way to go.

Just bought a Z2 Pro off banggood for £195/$250, did I do good?

i really liked it on the oneplus one, but its kinda dead now
Im just doubting if i should make it a requirement for my wish list to have the phone be able to run Lineage

Im kinda scared that i will regret it later

Anyone know a good case for the S8?
This thing gets slippery as fuck from the oil on your hands, no matter how often you wash them and wipe off the phone.

Not him but that's the T-Mobile version, not the international version. It is carrier unlocked but has no CDMA so I think that rules out Verizon and Sprint.

My Galaxy S4 doesn't seem to get very loud. The rings certainly are but if I try to play any media and I can barely hear it even if it goes past the "WARNING LOUD IS BAD" mark and gives me the message.

You mean the one on the phone? Have you tried formatting the card from the phone settings?

Is it possible to find a phone under $200 USD on android that wont lag even when nothing is happening?

I want to use my phone to text people, browse clover, deposit checks, and listen to music on my SD card but my past two phones either couldn't do one of those or was slow as hell and kept having the 'too much cache' problem.

My Nexus 5X is having the bootloop issue that is apparently really common. I impulse bought a Moto G5 (Prime edition because I thought I was going to need a fast, cheap burner phone) last night, but LG just emailed me back offering to repair it for free.

Do I take the repair, keeping my Nexus 5X suspecting this I don't have long left until the issue arises again, or do I open my Moto G and resell/throw away my Nexus 5X? I liked my Nexus, but it was starting to feel a bit slow and low on memory.
>>
>>61346319
Also its the G5+, if it matters.

Damn, I am glad you guys game me some insight on how Motorola rolls with Verizon. I think this means I will go with LG's G6. Unless anyone has had a similar experience with them holding back updates.

Honestly, if you want a good phone with a good stock room and tons of Dev support if you want, I'd go with the HTC 10/U11

well sense 5 was four years ago, they're up to "8" (they ditched version numbers after 7) and at present it's more or less stock with blinkfeed.
