I am a bit confused. Just installed kodi on my home nas and it says I have to configure all that shit in its interface.
well fuck that, my homeserver doesn't have a screen and I only control it via ssh.
what is a good media server solution so I can stream all my midget porn from my nas to my samsung tv over lan?
tried miniDLNA too previously, but that shit is even more useless.
nas is running ubuntu btw

There is web server to kodi just need to be activated
>>61318919
is kodi even a good choice here?
I would actually only need something that propagates a few folders to the devices over lan. not a whole library management and shit

Does your tv support smb/nfs browsing? If so you can install freenas and enable those file protocol.
Kodi would be perfect if your NAS doubled as htpc.

Using Kodi as a server is kind of weird anyway.
Actually use miniDLNA, it's lightweight, stable and once set up right pretty easy to use.

i set up minidlna with the media drives where my movies are, but it didn't show up in my samsung tv, so I'm currently trying other things.
Don't use kodi on your nas. Share your media on the nas via nfs and use kodi on your client devices to access it. Kodi does not need a server install like plex does.

I've had that problem once too, forgot what I did about it though.
Sorry.

i use samba share for watching from tablet and pc, but my stupid fucking smart tv can't into drive shares, so I've to figure out what best to use. unintrusive and run-once-and-forget as possible.

Fuck your smart tv buy a firetv box (not the stick) and install kodi. They'll probably be on sale today too.

I might do just that if my attempts get me nowhere.
but fuck additional hardware dongle bullshit, I'll try other ways first.

Can you use some dlna remote from android/computer like localcast?
