I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Really not getting on well with bash.

upower -i $(upower -e | grep BAT) | grep percentage | grep -Po '\d*'
works fine in the command line and prints the battery percentage.

has anyone here used unshield before?
im trying to use it on a file and im using

but that tells me Unknown action '/' on command line.
im basing it off what ive been told to do with it
unshield -d extracted/ x data2.cab
>>
>>61318075
The lone 'x' in the example you followed is telling unshield what action to take, eXtract. You replaced that with a path for some reason. It should be
unshield -d muh/output/folder x muh/input/file.cab

Replace paths as appropriate and put double qoutes around paths with spaces in.

You should probably skim over the man page for chown too.

hard to say HOW slower, but it will be NOTICEABLY slower because of slower random reads/writes and same-disk read-write operations. You can speed it up by putting some caches in tmpfs or forcing high level of disk caching but at the end it will be still slower than a hard disk or SSD.

Basically Linux running as a userspace program, letting windows do a big part of the work such ass filesystem access etc.
But while UML and coLinux as ports of the Linux kernel, the core of Ubuntu on Windows is a Linux-emulating subsystem developed by Microsoft using clean room engineering with zero code from Linux.

Which distribution are you on? Check the files owned by your qemu package and see what they contain (look for a desktop file).
What is that dock? It's most likely sourcing it from desktop files, so check if you have any in your HOME directory. Check

you can copy any existing .desktop form /usr/share/ to your ~/.local/share/applications/ and edit it.
if something exists in both places the one at ~/.local/ is preferred
see the freedesktop wiki for the must have .desktop entries
if you want to start a script with a .desktop put the script in ~/bin/ and set your $PATH to include ~/bin/ and add your script name to the Exec= in the .desktop
>>
>>61323367

>it shows up when i run the program
Well, in that case edit the icon. It's a BMP file which means it doesn't support transparency and that's why the edges look so shit.
Either replace it manually with a nice one, but that's kind of dirty, because your package manager tracks that file. I'd patch/change the package, but no idea how that works on Ubuntu.

Your problem has nothing to do with a distribution. I suggest you look into your terminal emulator. Perhaps it's its color scheme or something else. Try a different terminal emulator too.
>>
>>61323504

Use a gun to your head.

>>61323518

Then it's an apt issue. Look if there's a flag which would prevent it from trimming the output. Maybe try piping it into a pager with "apt search something | less". Alternatively, look into the source code and see if the hardcoded trimming value can be adjusted (might be more complicated than that).

>>
>>61323752

Which version of xfce4-terminal are you using? It has been recently updated and switched to vte3, so that might make it look different (try upgrading to the latest version).
It might also be a color-scheme issue. Does your terminal support 256 colors? Try starting cmus like this to see if it looks as intended
TERM=xterm-256color xfce4-terminal -x cmus
.

Alternatively try a different terminal emulator. There are dozens of them.

try disabling modesetting. Installers usually have a menu option to do this. Later you can try:
-installing the latest kernel (usually from backports, kernel ppa or experimental repos) and see if it can handle it right. If not then you sadly have to use the closed sores amdgpu-pro driver and wait till the libre amdgpu is improved to handle it.

Placing it in $() should work. Nested command substitution is allowed.

/bin/bash
echo $(upower -i $(upower -e | grep BAT) | grep percentage | grep -Po '\d*')

That script works as expected on my system.
You may or may not quote the command substitution, it works the same way as quoting a variable.

You have to pass it when you launch the program.
Also, you may want to look in to a launcher(such as dmenu2),so you dont have to use the terminal to launch things
>>

You can use ctrl+z to stop a process and then bg to have continue running in the background. Then you can use disown to make it not exit with the shell.

Some applications might still die after closing the terminal for whatever reason though so you can use something like reptyr to transfer them to a screen/tmux/dtach session.

Most system configuration is infiles in /etc/ while most user configuration is in ~/.* or ~/.config/*

I don't want files to be sorted like

I want to be able to type to select a filename without caring about the case of the filename. I want to be able to type the first few letters of a filename and then hit the arrow keys to scroll through nearby files. And again, not have to worry about if I started typing with the correct case.

Yes, I could solve this by writing a script to force all 10k images in my 4chan folder to all lowercase. But that'd be annoying and would feel like a defeat since ls and everything else does what I want when I set LC_COLLATE.

argon2 package is available in debian testing and the source is from https://github.com/P-H-C/phc-winner-argon2
lyra2 sounds like a meme but there is a short file here which I'm you could adapt https://github.com/tpruvot/cpuminer-multi/tree/linux/lyra2
Why not use a more common kdf?

Jesus christ I can't believe I didn't scroll down and read that this was actually a utility. I thought it was just a lib.

You already know the answer to that

Because 10000 iterations takes a really, REALLY long time with argon2

How can I get/install quake on ubuntu? I've tried looking and all I've gotten are random blog posts that don't work.

Or use opearena.

HEY

He's a nice, but conflicted kid as you can see.

suddenly not so fucking creepy.

I imagined some old balding faggot who casually strolls around schools and bothers children.

No fucking way. How on earth does a 14 year old post about stuff like https://blog.gnu.moe/misc/index.html

I upgraded to kernel 4.12 and my systemd-analyze time dropped from 46s to 22s
Did anyone experience the same?

Dunno, it seems that he got into IBs at early age because his parents kinda encouraged him to use computers and stuff, and it just happened.
Then, perhaps he discovered /a/ or only god know what else.
>>
>>61317120
This guy leaked his IRC handle. His IP is/was probably available before he authed on the network. Not hard to get his identity, and therefore figure out if his TOR hidden service leads there. I'd love to see the law pursue him.

FBI, get this guy away from children.

What, he's 14 and his email is YUI at cock li ?
Guy wants to diddle kids, and he has a TOR hidden service. Are you retarded?

I don't care if he's 14, he could (maybe even has??) mentally scarred a child if he acts on that fucked up shit he's been writing.

Indeed. Nothing in the blog is illegal.

You'd think that people know this, but most don't.

I'm 20.

>>61330757
>i know this guy, it's a guy from lainchan/volafile
I left volafile ~5 years ago. I'm banned from lainchan IRC.

>he goes by Yui, he's from finland and ~14y/o iirc.
I'm usually Tsutsukakushi since Yui is taken everywhere.
Unfortunately I age like normal people. I'm now 20.

I beg to disagree.

I don't bother the children unless they want me to.

Pretty accurate.

"Leaked". Did you find this page perhaps:
https://GNU.moe/contact

I connect through a bouncer running on GNU.moe.

>Not hard to get his identity
This I agree with.

>and therefore figure out if his TOR hidden service leads

The hidden service is on the same machine as the regular site.

>I'd love to see the law pursue him.
Why would they do that and why would you love that?
>>
>>61331054
>What, he's 14 and his email is YUI at cock li ?
People were wrong about my age but the email is correct.

>Guy wants to diddle kids, and he has a TOR hidden service.
The hidden service is just a mirror of the regular site.

>he could (maybe even has??) mentally scarred a child if he
>acts on that fucked up shit he's been writing.
Mentally scarred a child by playing with her?
