who else here don't give a shit about battery life? 99% of the time i use the x220 plugged in, thanks to some cosmic stroke of fate, there's a power outlet available wherever i take it. so i got the 4-cell battery that fits flush and weighs less. 2ish hours, which is fine for moving it around in standby and occasional toiletposting, which i'm not proud of but will admit, thanks to the gift of online anonymity

I have 3gb currently. 3 instances of Firefox (~40tabs), a few terminals, and rdp'd into my workstaiton (96gb of ram) for CAD use ... yeah, I can get by on <4gb.
Currently 4hrs into a 3dprint job, open new tab, serial stream pauses, stop working and stare at the printer hoping it will resume. This has happened about 3 times now just today :/.

Going to be doing a weekly 3 laptop price shootout on DankPads. Going to do the low/recommended/overpriced points but now add low/medium/high on 'as is', 'used w/ HDD', 'used w/ ssd', i5 laptops, i7 laptops, new, refurb, etc.
Additionally I would post prices for mobos, keyboards, and LCDs just in case it needs DIY or upgrades.
maybe do CPU pricing, but those depreciate pretty quickly...

Which means I probably not going to bother with Broadwell machines yet... Maybe work on them on the weekend. I plan on crunching 1 hour Monday, Wednesday and Friday for price research, hopefully I can get 3 to 5 laptops in decent price recommendations.

Just got a x250 with an i7, 8GBs of RAM and probably 250/125GB SSD with a 768 display for 400€. How good did I do? I guess that with that tiny screen, getting a 1080p is not worth it, but are there any 900p displays for that?

Fairly light stuff, the 940m/940mx class isn't powerful enough you'd make it your first choice. Runs stuff like oblivion, skyrim, etc just fine but chokes on tougher tasks. For example, it can't run Dolphin emulator at acceptable framerates. Runs the first dragon age ok, portal 2, etc but can't do, say, tomb raider 2013 without turning the settings all the way down.

For my work a Pixel is main machine I use.
Samsung S7 taking photos, uploading directly to google photos, which I can immediately post onto ebay via my ChromeBook, not needing to worry about data being deleted.

As much as I liked the X61, I disliked the keyboard in long term uses. It is an uncomfortable machine, despite me liking smallpads... X31 feels better....
As far as the T70, I don't think it is developed fully yet? Not sure about shelling out for it.

If not specified, ask for the resolution. Some come with the disgustingly bad 1366x768 resolution, others come with the still shitty but slightly less bad 1600x900.
That's probably it, really. Try to get best specced T420 you can find unless you're 100% certain you're going to waste time, effort and money into upgrades later. Check battery health, if the BIOS is unlocked and Computrace is OFF, you know, the basics.

My x220 has been fantastic up until I started audio editing and music production.
It's never even given me problems programming PHP over multiple VirtualBox machines but Pioneers Rekorbox lags and stutters, and music bars stretch as the music plays. Same goes for ableton live.
What should I switch to or could I maybe upgrade my x220? I already added 8gb ram.

However I do have T40 and T42 but they do need a replacement keyboard because they are worn out and those are also starting to become rare, I assume. What would you guys think? Which one (T4X or Z60m) would be better for eroge and vn's? I mean they don't need any real hardware to run but T4X laptops tend to have some problems on them which is why I want to treasure them and use them as little as possible due to their many flawed points.

Inside of the screen is damaged and it needs a charger; I'm gonna be optimistic and assume those are the only problems it has.

Sorry for the late reply, but I'm looking for a comfy, minimal botnet experience, but also want it to run as smooth as possible. 7 seems like the obvious choice, but I'm not sure if there's anything that I'm missing. I'd honestly use XP if it was still feasible to do so since that was the last version of Windows that I truly enjoyed using. Mostly going to use it to run game dev and music production stuff that I can't get working in Linux and basic video editing. I know thinkpads are phenomenally tough, I figured out what it takes to kill one: me mum. She was running an old r61 for email and web and youtube, but she kept it in the shed and the fan shit itself a few years ago. so 36+ months only partially protected from weather weather with nothing but the heatpipes on the cooler to stop it overheating.

Except that when I pulled it apart that wasn't even what killed the thing: the transformer for the screen was the only part that died, and when I got most of the dirt and dust out of the fan, changed the paste and hooked it up to a vga it ran fine even if it was making a grinding noise. Still need to find her a new computer.
