What's the comfiest language to write small system utilities? Examples include task managers, init system, hardware sensors etc.
I'm thinking C but it's really not all that productive. However there are many existing APIs that kinda make up for it.
C++ is a hot mess (and don't even try pulling "C++XY magically makes all problems" go away bullcrap)
For graphical frontend I'm thinking about using Rust. However GTK looks very counter-intuitive. The only time I touched GUI is back when I was using Processing.

I wouldn't call those "small system utilities". A small system utility is cat, ls, grep... C was basically written for these and the most common implementations are still in C, but whether it's the "comfiest" in 2017 is another question.
