Considering a 3770 non k or a 2700k, both go for around $150 and I could prob get $50-60 out of the ol' 4t.

Yeah, that's more or less been my thought. What do you think I should upgrade it to?

Been juggling around some options (mostly out of the gtx 10XX series) but nothing really jumps out at me and says "this is worth the price".
>>
>>61308757
It's kinda fucked now. Maybe a used 980ti, 580/8 when prices fall or wait for the Pascal refresh following vega's launch. Only card worth it right now imo is bottom barrel cards and the 1080<

my fellow 3770k friend, get the 980ti.
Recently upgraded from 6870 to it and it's wonderful. After some OC you can squeeze out 1070-level 1080p performance. You only lose out on 2GB of VRAM, but 6GB is still more than enough if you're sticking with 1080p.

Noice, how's that 1.gen i7 hanging in there?

I put a i7 720 in my old acer piece of shit and 8gb ram some years ago, became a beast. Swapped out my moms core 2 pentium laptop with the acer when I stopped needing it for work. She's still rockin it.
>>
>>61308578
For gods sake go for the 2700k, the 3770 uses paste under the ihs, 2700 is soldered. And can be overclocked.

Performance wise there is zero differance between the 2. and 3. gens, they only shrinked the process a tad.

Get the 2700k.

It sucks that the only way to lower my GPU temps is to sync my case fans to its temperature but that makes my PC sound like a jet engine.
>>

CPU is OC on a kraken x62. GPU is running stock and boosts to 1911. Its an FTW3 if that matters.

did you just get done playing vidya or is this just idle temps? Hot weather where you are?
>>
>>61314635
You tell me. I got the 1080Ti last week, should I RMA? Its reaching the same temps as my bottom 980Ti card when I had SLI with a Hybrid and SC.

>>61314673
I'm running FFXIV in the background right now. It idles at 34-40
>>
>>61314686
that's normal then

high temps aren't necessarily bad and it's only when it's up in the 90s constantly that it's an issue
>>
>>61314716
Alright in that case I'll stop tying my case fans to my GPU temp.
>>
>>61314585
I see the problem Your sucking in hot air onto the GPU from the radiator.

quick solution would be to water cool it as your GPU is not getting any freash air.
>>
>>61314932
I plan on doing a full custom loop later down the line. I was going to hop on it immediately but EK decided to be fuckwits and aren't supporting hardline for their aluminium series.

I would have purchased it immediately if they said it was coming down the line.
>>
>>61314954

don't forget to save the heatsink for resale.

I have a 280mm rad too, Corsair H115i.

I have the rad on top sucking air in, and two fans in front to suck in as well, with one single fan in the back as exhaust. No temp issues.

You might have exhaust on top, but there's no point if your case is getting zero fresh air.

You really should overclock a K CPU, though. If you have at least a semi decent fan on your CPU it'll be fine. Just go on forums and shit and look at what others have done as a reference, go up in baby steps and see if you can get to it.
The chances of anything bad happening are basically 0 (just pay attention to your voltage setting and don't do a dumb on that one). If it's an unstable OC, your PC will crash and you go back into BIOS and either go down on the OC or restore defaults.
There's comprehensive guides everywhere and OCing isn't nearly as dangerous as before.

Well my only fear is that my MoBo is going to shit on itself the second I OC because that's just my kind of luck. i've gone through 2 MoBo's in the past even when I never touched oc'ing. There was basically just some sort of oil looking liquid oozing from my VRM and I had to replace the board twice(AM3+ board). So i'm sort of traumatized from that bs to feel confident enough to OC on an intel board.
>>
>>61328313
Nowadays the mobo manufacturer come with automatic overclocking tools where it does the OC for you. They're really rough , bloated, and crude but they do work, like Asus Suite.

I may OC sometime in the coming weeks but i'll just say im too much of a pussy to oc confidently. I'll probably have to buy a back up board since my luck with MoBo's are so bad and the OC I do will probably burn right through the board some fucking how..
>>
>>61328343
Just don't fucking turn off the voltage limiter or whatever on your mobo. You're trying to stay at or lower than 1.3v.

Current build I've had for +4 years (aside from GPU)

I'm having a major upgrade this month, as I've just bought the following parts:

CPU: Intel i5 7600k
SSD: Kingston SSDNow 240 GB
HDD: Seagate FireCuda 2 TB
MBD: Asus Z710 Pro Gaming

Total cost: 433 USD

I feel I made some pretty good deals, taking into account I saved +-4k of my country's currency (aprox. 270 USD).
What do you think of my upgrade?

I'm still in need of RAM, should I go for 16 GB or 8 GB is good enough?

that's a lot of hard drives

I want to get this GPU and combo it with a R5 1600.

It's a wonderfull GPU, for 200 bucks.
I need to change my CPU and my OS, but i don't want to go for Windows 10..

Ok, thanks. I was looking foward to save some money, hence the question.

How would you rate your CPU ?

Is it still ok for games on a Ryzen?
>>
>>61322893
You have a low-end cpu paired with a very high-end graphics card and monitor. It's likely holding back your comp's performance. Look into a quad core i5, i7, or equivalent AMD processor with a higher clock speed. At least 3.4 GHz
>>
>>61306811
build a fucking nas, where is your redundancy?
mine is just the guts of my old pc plus a pcie sata card and a fuckton of drives. stick freenas on it, configure email alerts and you won't need to worry about a drive dying and losing everything which was on it.
>>
>>61328576
on a side note, what kind of cooler would you recommend me, as I live in a 104 F hellhole?

I was thinking in a 212 EVO but I0m not sure

Sell the cpu

APUs were a great idea, shame AMD didn't allow them to utilize the APU with more powerful GPUs.

Upgrade that 660 and you should be good, provided you can actually get a new card atm.

Be gentle...
