Hi guys, since in /tpg/ recommendations are often about suggesting cheap laptops that value the build quality more than power, which is great in most cases but I guess many of you still need power at a cheap price, I thought I could make a slightly different thread.
Thinkpads/Elitebooks/Latitude etc... Are fine for general programming, note taking in uni and all of that.
But if you need a graphics card or a better CPU cause you want to do some modeling or game development, but you're poor as fuck, I guess you can trade off some of those laptops' great build quality and take a look at these:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B01MSD9P0K/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85Z%C3%95%C3%91&qid=1499684438&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=hp+a12-9700p&dpPl=1&dpID=418N7bUxyWL&ref=plSrch
At least here in Germany, this is the best price/power deal I've found. HP generally is the best in this lower tier with it's cheap laptops. For those who don't know the AMD A12-9700p, it's CPU is almost an i5, and it's GPU is on the range of a GTX 860m or something like that, basically an entry level to actually manage some graphics power on your laptop.
Feel free to suggest other cheap laptops with decent specs!

If you're poor as fuck you should get a job.

What if you need a laptop to get a job?
>>61302673
No such thing.

>For those who don't know the AMD A12-9700p, it's CPU is almost an i5,
lmao
Just get a chinkpad anon, their cpu's are plenty strong

>Be me 17
>Total neet doing nothing of my life
>Daddy gives me a laptop and tells me to learn fucking something
>I check out some Python tutorials and start getting into programming
>I then go to CS college and use my laptop for everything
>In 4 years I get out and get a job

The CPUs on Chinkpads are old ass i5s, the i5 OP refers to are on a wholly different level of power.
Just check out this comparison between the i5 you find on Thinkpad x230 and A12:

And also consider chinkpads have no graphics card, which was basically the point of the whole thread. You need them for serious 3D work.

You aint doing "serious work" on a budget laptop anon, wake up.
We get these threads everyday.

At least you do it better than on a chinkpad. I've bought a laptop like the one in the OP link some months ago (payed it 400 cause it had an SSD and 12 GB RAM) and it's serving me well in my 3D artist work. I don't care if it has a mediocre build quality, that doesn't impact my workflow, while castrated specs would.
I agree with OP, some people here are too dead set on suggesting business laptops but those aren't really fitting everyone's needs. Of course they're great for some situations, but if one needs some ok horsepower he's better spending 300 $ on a laptop like the HP one in OP rather than 200 $ for a Thinkpad which could have all the great keyboard and build quality but meh power.

I bought $200 Acer ULV,comes with 500GB HDD 4GB DD3,dropped in SSD in the spare bracket.
DX11 supported.
Plays any AAA game up to 2011(720p) and indie shit to current day.
Plays BluRay Remuxes no sweat.
Windows 7 debloated and runs like a dream.
Drawbacks.
Battery is shot after a year, replacement is $50 so a quarter of the laptop price, maximum battery time I get now is 1h.
Display is 1366x700 or whatever the fuck TN junk.
Dodgy assembly on arrival had to re-assemble the case of the laptop since it was causing flex and was puling on the keyboard ribbon.
Would buy again,great little thing.

You're a retard if you think that Piece Of Shit HP has i5/860m levels of performance. Maybe lower end, low voltage (i3-U series) processors would be comparable, and even the older i5's (i5-2520m) would reck that.
The card might be worse the a piece of shit gt730m. Kys.
You'd literally be better off with a Thinkpad ivy bridge in any scenario.
>>61302718
No...just no. Kys.
Want some decent graphics power? You'll need to spend at least 800 to 1.2k yuros on a decent laptop.
>>61302660
You can get a desktop that's either twice as powerful or twice as cheap while having the same power.
Laptops are not meant to be powerful and the ones that are somewhat alright in that department are expensive as fuck. Stop wasting your time and money for half assed solutions.
>>61302804
Only that the $300 HP shittop still doesn't have enough power for much more than an Ivy Bridge cuckpad.
You can buy an x220(or any thinkpad/elitebook with egpu support) and a fairly powerful gpu for more or less the same price while recking that piece of shit consumer trash in OP, by a fair amount.
