Depends on the distro really.

I've got three old laptops.

One is a Gateway with a cracked hinge, which they won't take just because it's not on their list of brands.

Then there's a Lenovo that's about 10 years old. I'm definitely going to trade it in.

Finally there's a Toshiba that's only a few years old, but has some kind of HDD problem and is very slow, even with a fresh Ubuntu install. Will probably trade it in too.

$150 for junk I have laying around? Sign me up.

I have a shitty old Acer netbook (atom1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, GMA 950) but I can't get it to boot. I've tried two separate hard drives so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Hopefully I can get it running before the 15th, because getting $75 in credit for it would be pretty nice. It would basically be a free hard drive for me.

Included the battery, which hasn't held a charge for about 5 years (the main reason it's been collecting dust in the back of a closet). With the AC power attached, booted right up to Win XP Home ... which I had thoroughly cleaned years ago & never used this laptop for anything where it would have any personal or otherwise compromising data.

Free $75 for literally 30 minutes of "find laptop & drive to Best Buy." Even if I have to spend it at Best Buy, I'll find something I need that will be worth that. Shit ... just NOT having to find a way to throw it out at this point would have been worth the gas to drive there and abandon it.

I ask because a fat chick turned my laptop down in Best Buy today because she couldn't find the model in the "database" on her computer. It was an old 2005-ish Sony Vaio running XP with maybe 512MB of RAM. The only "Sony Vaios" that show up in her computer were the newer desktops. She didn't seem all too wary, as barely anybody in my area are doing the trade-ins.
