the display is one of the biggest plus sides compared to the T420, its higher resolution, and the viewing angles and colors are just simply infinitely better, T420 has a panel which is simply horseshit, I was fully unaware of these machines having better displays, excepted as shit panel but with higher resolution but holy fuck did it look so good after few years of T420 usage

My laptop was close to breaking (toshiba satellite that was 7 years old), so I bought a used Sony Vaio for 80 bucks. I need to upgrade the i3 processor and replace the USB ports (2/3 are busted as shit), and the battery is completely dead (won't last a second without being plugged in), but I can replace the battery for 20, the USB for 30, and the i3 for whatever I want to spend.

For some reason, I've always wanted one, and when I saw this thing for sale for 100, I offered him 80, and he accepted. I'm glad as fuck to have it. I'll probably swap out the HDD at some point, just because, this having a 1st gen i3, the HDD has to be fairly old.

A mod to use a fhd ips screen on the T420.

Worked flawlessly for some T420 models but was unstable as fuck with flickering issues for the majority so a couple of batches were sold but nothing past that.

There are kits for the x220, x230, T420s and T430s that work though.

based on issues inherent in the T420 it's not a good mod (it has to use the display port that comes through the ultrabase dock connector, a very sub optimal method.)

A less rare, less costly mod is to get one of those Alienware 1600x900 screens, or alternatively to buy the 15" rather than 14" model.
