I personally don't own a mac or any apple products but i have used them on occasion. The user experience tends to cater to the lowest common denominator thus making it more simple and straightforward. they put a lot of effort to make it this way so it's stable and issue free. This way it's more marketable to the consumer and every basic bitch who only knows how to use an internet browser.

Simplifying technology can also hurt the way we utilize future tech. the number of people able to use anything slightly more advanced is steadily decreasing because people don't take the time to learn how computers work because now a days you pretty much don't have to. the "it just works" is already a common phrase, and everyday at work someone has an issue which could be easily fixed but the "it usually just works" attitude prevents them from learning whats causing it and how to fix and prevent it.

That's right, and it's another way the Mac is more like McDonalds, except in price. You walk in and get a Big Mac, you get the same thing, there aren't many options, but it's simple food with some options for people who want to pretend they're eating something fancy, and you almost definitely won't get sick from it. People praise Jobs as as some great innovator but he was just a good salesman.

Anyways, apple computers are overall not that great. The OS is pretty decent, yes. And I say this because I have tried it for over a year and got past the stupid shit that makes everyone cry and crawl back into their own corners. However their hardware is subpar and they put too much effort in selling specific great parts with specific poor parts.

Now, they always sold this "experience". They were fully dedicated, and actually remarkably good at doing their own "thing" which meant to make something that literally just worked. And you can see proof of that on newer products. However they got so faulty over the years and decided to make a bunch of poor decisions that are kind of making them fall apart. Their objective is to make tech illiterate people (or simply people who don't have time to deal with bullshit anymore) have a tool available for them that doesn't require mainteinance at an obviously expensive price, and they're still showing that these days. The issue is that then they fuck up with overheating, throttling pieces of garbage, hardware that looks much better than it feels, and the occasional "we ran out of ideas, but we think this new random touch thing is something you need".

By the way admitting all of this, I'm going to say, their decision to put a fuckton of USB C ports on the sides and none of the rest... I approve of. I unironically do, I see what they're trying to do.

And macOS is a really good representation of their current state as well. You can see that they have this very good product, and they're trying to kind of make it slightly shittier here and there with every release while taking maybe some steps forward (for instance now, with external GPU support, NVME SSD support and APFS).

Dobson's comic makes no sense at all, simply because in both cases it shows food that is already prepared for you regardless of quality. Windows is an OS you still have to tinker with a bit.

Only for non-technical work like graphic design. Once you get into ERP, mechanical/electronic design, industrial automation, embedded programming, etc., Macs become near-useless (unless you put Windows/Linux on them, but then why get a Mac in the first place?)

Work help desk at a hospital where half the doctors insist on using macbook pros instead of X1 carbons. Our department director is a huge mac fan and gives them that fucking choice. None of our software works on Macs of course so they have to connect to their virtual desktops anyway and consistency getting their dictation mics to pass through Citrix is a nightmare.
