Because some videos get taken down for copyright bullshit
>>
>>61279381
Mega is a good option, but companies do go out of business and then I'd lose my data. Or what if I forgot to pay for a month and then all my data was deleted. Seems risky. Also, it's 273 dollars per year for 4 tb, whereas buying a drive to store that is cheaper and a 1 time cost.

>>61279383
HD, available offline, won't get deleted by copyright hunters. Plus you can create your own categories and labels for certain scenes so you can find exactly what you need very quickly.

The biggest benefit for me, though, is creating 1 massive list and then randomizing it, so I get a random video that I know I will like.

How can porn be so important to save it? Porn is so useless, I just use some random website whenever I feel like it for streaming and forget about the video
>>
I thought about hoarding movies, but compression techniques get better and movies get smaller for the same quality.
By the time you amass a collection, you could re-do it for 1/3rd the size and have better quality.

can you explain this? how much does it cost to upload and store things on the decentralized network? what's the catch?
>>
>>61279383
Shit gets taken down. Quality is better, it's easier than finding a stream. I download JAV, stream the rest.
>>
>>61279597
Do you stream music too?

I'm going to assume you just always have internet access.

I have 3 TB of drive space, with nearly 1.5 TB full of TV shows and movies along with all muh games. I'd like to build a NAS with Plex so I can finally go full on data hoarder.

>>61279597
You've never once in your life thought "Hey, that one video was really good, I wanna see it again"? I don't understand people like you at all. Or are you just so incredibly vanilla in your tastes that any generic blonde taking it up the ass is all you could ever ask for? You don't have any fetishes or preferences at all? I don't understand people like that at all either.

>>61279802

That's a good start. At last count I had 80,000 mp3s and around 6000 movies/TV shows. Also stuff like versions of old operating systems going back to dos, old programs, offline copy of wikipedia, and some other people's backups too. All housed on a closed network. Pic semi related, old drives after upgrades.

Related question for hoarders: how do you store? I'm jbod right now but thinking about a nice raid 5 or 6.
>>
>>61280901

I never got over dial-up internet.
Even with high speed I feel like I learned the lesson that you just can't trust it to be there and be quickly reachable unless you download it.
Which actually still is the case with a lot of streaming sites that deliver video too slow despite my bandwidth.
I suppose I don't want to click the seek bar then wait.
What's your technique?
>>
>>61279597
>>61279779
I download and organize only certain. highly effective fetishes because it saves time later on when I just need to jack off in order to regain my ability to think straight. Why waste 2 hours looking at porn to find just the right stuff when you can do the same thing in 2 minutes?
>>
>>61280916
"Fall in love"? No, I wouldn't say that. But I certainly have some actresses that are much better suited to my tastes than the generic ISO Standard Porn Star. It's worthwhile to seek out their material and have a local copy of it, because it gives me a bunch of stuff that I'm much more likely to enjoy than whatever's on the front page of some tube site today.

>>61281006
I did ZFS. I used mirror vdevs for easy expandability (since I couldn't buy a dozen drives at once) and just ate the 50% storage efficiency. On the bright side, scrubs and resilvers (of which I've done one, I replaced a drive that was working but persistently coughing up checksum errors) run pretty fast. I have a bit over 10TB used on a 16TB array, and it scrubs at a terabyte per hour.

I really hope btrfs is finally fixed once and for all, since that's what I would have wanted if their RAID6 implementation wasn't fucked.

>I think I may have a problem.

Yeah, your sorting method (or, more accurately, your complete and utter lack of one) sucks shit.

People make fun of those that hoard media (just stream your porn lol!), but if there ever comes a time when ISPs start cracking down on content or start drastically limiting speeds or start imposing insane caps or even if you ever have an extended data outage you'll be the guy who is still jerking off while everyone else is desperately trying to find an old Sears catalog in their attic so they can stroke one out to a picture of a 6/10 woman in a one piece bathing suit photographed from 30 feet away next to an above ground inflatable pool.

Besides, hard drive space is cheap these days. You can get a 2TB mechanical drive for like $40 if you shop around.

Can you guys help me out here? This seems like the right thread to ask:

> Have roughly 1.6TB worth of media stored on my desktop (films, tv shows, music, old golden age radio shows, audiobooks, etc)
> It's all on one separate 2TB hard drive, an old WD Green I bought a few years ago
> I have my current desktop as well as an older server (1x Xeon 3075/6GB/80GB RAID1/dual NICs on mobo) that is not currently active but is 100% functional
> Both machines are running Windows 10

What is the best option for storing this data? I just sorta realized that by having literally zero backup options right now my entire media collection could disappear in a second if this drive dies.
>>
>>61283435
RAID, w/BTRFS or ZFS but that's not really a backup.
Scoop up an older LTO drive cheap, LTO 5+ would do. Media is inexpensive but don't forget the HBA.
>>
>>61283435
Look for more drives. I got a 8tb wd red that was 190$.I picked up 2 for the HTPC
>>
>>61279902
not him and I don't stream music, but that's different with porn. Music is an form of art to relax and enjoy, and porn is for fapping. Don't tell me you can fap to music.
>>
>>61285236
people fap to all sorts of wacky shit these days it wouldn't be far fetched.
>>
If I got a cloud backup service like crashplan/backblaze, would I be able to run my drives in Raid 0 setting without worry?
>>
>>61278801
Used to have very slow net like 500Kbps and would collect books thinking they have the most content/size, are the most valuable culturally and in price/ size.
I eventually stopped when I got 1Gbps/500Mbps unlimited.
FEEL THE BURN YOU GOD DAMN BOGANS AND BOGS !!

I don't.

The only thing worth saving is music and personal work / datas. Saving movies and porn is utterly fucking stupid.

Holy shit we have the same porn interests. Like we could swap hard drives and I think the only problem is I would sort and rename your shit. I feel like I need a way to reach you incase I need extra seeding on an older legal porno torrent

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
