I have an Orange Pi Plus 2[0] and a 500 Mbps upload, unlimited data, broadband internet. Any advices on how to build and self host a lightweight website like a local ebay where people put/see offers for selling stuff in their region? And let's say there would be 100 000 users online at any given moment.

Can I use JavaScript or should it be a JS-free website?

Would't that be to hard on my Orage Pi taking into account there would be 100 000 users at any given moment?

I don't. You should try it too.

ask this fella, he seems to have it all figured out

lad... for 100 000 users online at any given moment you would need at least 128GB of RAM, please go back to /b/

are you fucking retarded or something?

do you honestly think your shitty Pi can handle 100k users, do you think your router can even handle more than 1k connections per second

please go kys before you write this garbage, go educate yourself

>128gbs ram for 100000 users on static/js-only site
did you get lost on your way to webhostingtalk?

cpu is a much greater constraint, not to mention OPs network equipment

>>61278617
if you have 100000 active users online you ought to be making enough money to rent or colocate dedicated servers
>>
>>61278975
read the OP nigger

did you get lost on your way to reddit??

I almost guarantee you that hosting a website through your broadband is against TOS and if you do, by some miracle, get 100,000 hits in a short range of time you'll definitely raise flags and be busted.
>>
>>61279033
>implying a shitty home router can even handle 100k connections

it would just crash the router and kill his internet
>>
Do you know anything at all or you just started sporing memes you heard in /g/?

First of all: JavaScript has no impact on server side performance. JS is executed client side, for your server is just text, and ajax is just another request.
Second: A raspberry Pi isn't a server for fucks sake, is a cheap computer for kids to learn programming on. if you have a good connection get a cheap Xeon off Ebay and use that.
Third: A plain html website ain't gonna get 100k users in 2017.

Is nice to have goals and dreams but ffs attain to reality. You can perfectly have a personal webpage hosted on a rpi with your home connection, but not a service with 100k users. You're making yourself look like Ahmed the clock kid.

the only programming language mentioned was js, so I assumed no serverside scripting or programming
although I dont see how you'd implement ebay or ebay-like site in straight html, thats not my problem

dont call me reddit you fucking nigger
