Thinkpad X1 Carbon
as developer, x230. Portable, good docks, doesn't look much worth stealing when in east europe. the processor is not that good for c++ compilation, it might be necessary to look into distributed compilation soon.

Does it have an ethernet port?

I'm a sysadmin, I couldn't live life without my XPS 13

What is when you're in a datacenter and need to connect to an rj45. Do you carry around an adapter?

T420 is good.
>>61277890
Yes it does, it comes with a small ethernet adapter.

it comes with native ethernet, but uses a "mini" ethernet port or something so you still need a dongle, but it's not a USB one
The Dell XPS13 looks like a pretty good laptop. I have a friend that has one and it looks like a pretty good all-around laptop.
I am a dev and I use a T410 because I've had it for years and I don't see a point in upgrading. I have muscles, so I can easily carry a 5 pound laptop.
Thinkpad X200, you don't need more power than it's got for most tasks and it can be librebooted
I use an x270 mainly for the keyboard, battery life, and size.

if you compile a lot of large projects or use Gentoo, then you really could use more power than an x200

>ruined keyboard layout
>Intel AMT enabled by default
I bet you use Windows 10
I have a dell ultra book, it has good screen, it's very light too which is one if most important aspects for a portable device. But still, I don't use a laptop very often and I chose dell because I have a dell screen on my PC and it is amaxing.
