What's the battery life on the X220 like? I've heard that it'll drain in around 4 hours and that's going to be a problem for me, but it seems like ta good option overall for what I want to use it for (Web browsing, text editing, 720p anime, etc) , since I have a desktop already. My only real concerns are the battery life and the screen quality.

On a business oriented laptop you're going to be getting either an integrated GPU, or a lower end GPU, or something like a Quadro, so you won't be playing modern games anyway.

Odds are you'll be playing mostly indieshit, and they usually have Linux clients anyway. Between that and DOSBox you'll never want for games to play.

Howdy faggots. Just got myself a T420 after falling for a meme. Which Linux distro would you install?

Is buying a X220 for around $200 with a charger, 8GB of RAM and a 250gb SSD worth it if I just want a way to browse the web and watch anime in places without access to constant electricity? Or would a T420 with charger, battery, 8GB and a 500gb HD for $115 be a better choice? The most intensive thing I would probably be running is Firefox with two or three dozen tabs since I would still have a desktop, and the thinkpad would pretty much only be for when I didn't have instant access to an outlet.

My x230 seems to be throttling at 75 degrees when I play some simple vidya. Yeah I know it's not for vidya, but it's nothing intensive. The cpu clocks down to sub 2ghz and I can feel the fps dropping quite significantly. Should it throttle at those speeds ?

I've never owned a laptop before, just desktops going back about a decade, so I bought a t430 two weeks ago.
What the fuck am I doing wrong? It is so uncomfortable to use and everything takes way longer to do, just user input wise not processing power wise, than on a desktop.
How can I configure a desktop environment that is more comfortable to use on a laptop?

I've had a X201 i5 520M 4GB w/ 128GB SSD for about 3 years now. It has served me very well, but I was looking at getting a quadcore laptop with dedicated graphics for an upgrade.

I found a E6430 i7 3720QM 8GB w/ NVIDIA 5200M 1600x900 on Ebay and bought it for 132USD (170 Canuck Bucks). That seems like a good value to me.
