Fair enough. Thanks.

You literally cannot do better than a Mac if you're concerned about display quality. The memory you'll definitely want to upgrade, though.
>>
>>61253998
I can get 64gb for about $300, so not a problem.

Literally anything is better than macshit.

A 5 year old generic Acer will run faster than that pile of garbage.

Stupid question from a noob, if you HAD to get a tattoo of a Unix command, which would you get? Just curious lol

A real PC, and a quality 40" 4K HDTV.

You'll never go back to shitty piss-ant monitors.

if you really are a retired Unix sysadmin I'd feel kind of strange giving YOU advice and not the other way around.

but in my opinion, generally building your own computer is more cost effective and customizable. for example, I only spent $600 on a desktop build and have:

4GHz 8-core AMD FX-8320 (with a cheap water cooling setup from frys--I highly recommend a sub-$50 closed loop water cooler)

16GB of ddr4 memory if I recall correctly

3TB Western Digital HDD

120GB OCZ trion Solid state drive--I use this as my boot drive. I run windows and this is my C:\ Drive. obviously you can run your own OS.

I skimped a bit on graphics, I have a GTX 750 with I think 4GB of memory.

my motherboard (MSI 970) has a decent built in sound card and has 8+ usb ports and has usb 3.0.

the speakers that will come with a mac will not be very good if you''re looking for quality.

I would recommend going to the PC build general and trying to come up with a list for a PC that fits your needs. you can get similar specs for far less than $1800 and have money to spare for a nice monitor, speakers, etc.

good luck.

yes.

With the Apple, the only thing you get is the Apple brand. You can overpay for bullshit somewhere else.

> But that 27" retina is the big draw. I'm old. My eyes are old.

So what? Use glasses.
Alternatively scale up the UI. Last I checked Apple is very good with scaling oh high DPI screens.

> Want to buy one last computer which won't suck in 2020.

Define "suck". Do you want to game on it? Do you want to facebook? Do you want to program?
No computer will "suck" after less than three years, as long as you take care of it, clean it regularly and don't install tons of shitty meme applications and malware. Gaming computers might have the issue of not being able to run everything on ultra after a few years, but then you can usually replace the GPU and you're good to go (unless you have a Mac, then you're fucked).

> Can I do better for $1800?

Generally yes. With Apple you pay for the name, so if you buy a PC you usually end up with better hardware for the same amount of money.

> Long ass list of shit

That is indeed pretty "meh" for $1800. But again, you're paying for the "Apple Experience" here, not the hardware.

>>61254089
> 8bit/10bit

You literally only need this if you're a graphical design artist.
For your average gamer or facebooker it matters as little as the color of your wallpaper.
>>
>>61254191
not him, but that thing is too expensive for the hardware it's giving, I don't know if he's willing to build his own system, but if he is, he can get a lot more value for his money than with that
>>
>>61254230
when you consider the stupid prices the 580s are going for atm you rip it out and sell it then use the proceeds and put in a 1080
>>
Macs being overpriced is a meme. Only problem is it's all in one. So if you want to upgrade you technically have to rebuy everything as the screen etc, are included in the cost. If the lack of upgradability isn't a problem and you don't mind then go for it.
>>
>>61254191
why are we gimping a sysadmin with a shitty fucking aio. do a custom rig so that you can upgrade parts as their performance falls behind in modern applications. then youll have a system thats good until 2100, probably for cheaper than what an impossible to upgrade aio costs.
>>
>>61254218
>for displays you literaly cannot do better than a mac

>oh but that doesn't matter
Keep shuffling your way out of your own dumb words, mac shill.
>>
>>61253878
>get more ram
I believe they solder in the ram on those
>>
>>61254089
Seen both monitors in person. The Dell is more accurate, but the Mac is more vibrant.
>>
>>61254445
>rip it out and sell it then use the proceeds and put in a 1080
>AIO
pick one and only one. They're proprietary versions for the aio, like laptops. Not end user serviceable.
>>
>>61253878
>10 trillion doller computer

>>
>2TB Fusion Drive1
At least get the SSD, what are you poor?
>>
>>61254485
>macs being overpriced is a meme

Their retail price is unquestionably higher for the same hardware. It gets even worse when you factor in the fact that you can't upgrade anything without buying a whole new unit.
