hello /g/entoomen.
What RAM speed are you able to run on your Ryzen 7 setups? I just updated my bios to the latest revision, but I'm still only able to run my RAM at 2133Mhz. It won't POST with any speed higher than that. Motherboard is an ASUS B-350 PLUS. RAM is corsair vengeance 3200Mhz. Thanks.

I went with ASUS because of my experience with them in the past. I won't be making that mistake again

I've had pretty good luck with their high end. I've got my ram on my Ryzen 1700 up to 3466mhz with a 3200 kit.

why not just buy Gigabyte B350 Gaming 3 ?

i have a b350 asus board on my r5 1600.
im running my ram at 3200mhz.
ram issues with ryzen have pretty much been fixed. update your bios. id it doesnt autodetect your ramspeedds select the D.O.C.P. profile for it. incedentally this will also enable XFR for your cpu.

got the SLI PLUS and the flare x 3200 CL14 kit

I paid a premium price(specially that i live in eastern europe, kill me) but at least it werkd out-of-the-box.

Also OC'd the 1800x easily to 4.0, but it crashed at 4.1 in cinebench, i mean it's still like the cheapest x370 mobo
>>
>>61246352
im using vengeance lpx 16gb kit with 8gigs each.
i dont actually know my timings. when i installed the system my ram would not go past 2400 mhz so i updated my bios and then it recognized the ram properly and then i just selected the docp profie that it offered me for my ram which made it run at 3200mhz and enabled XFR for me.
>>
>>61245676
Got 16GB of 3200MHz b-die, wouldn't boot at 3200 stock but I'm having no problems OCing them up to at least 3866 (Haven't finished testing) by bumping my SoC to 1.2V. If you're having trouble that's one of the first things I'd do, it boosts the voltage on the memory controller and improves memory compatibility/reliability.

>>
>>61247057
Can't say yet, I only upgraded my rig to ryzen 2 days ago. In multithread optimized benchmarks I was definitely getting a decent boost in performance from 3200 -> 3866, my scores went up from the high 1500s to high 1600s/low 1700s in cinebench and my y-cruncher times on average went down a bit, from ~4s to compute 50m to ~3.6s. I'm running at 1440p anyways so I probably won't get the nice boost in performance you'd get with 1080p.
>>
>>61246715
I think he is referring to the vrms, because msi didnt use the best quality. Im still loving my msi board tho.
>>
Alright guys, since I haven't been upgrading my machine for a couple of years it's time again. I don't give a fk about gaming that's why I will go for a Ryzen 1600 and overclock it.

Now, you motherfuckers seem to know more about it.
1. Which AM4 motherboards are good and not too pricy?
2. I read that its recommended to go with the fastest RAM. True?
3. Let's say Ill buy a mid range GPU like a 1060 or the AMD equivalent. What kind of a PSU do I need to overclock my Ryzen? Are 550 watts enough?
>>
Good to see im not the only one. I got it ine setting iver 2400 stabke but its LPX 3000. There is a new BIOS F5 for my board, GB B350. Maybe that will fix it.

>1. Which AM4 motherboards are good and not too pricy?

That is too vague - pricy is only in relation to your needs. Somehow - from your phrasing - I doubt you know what you need and that by definition means you don't need x370 boards and thus should be looking at B350 boards.

> I read that its recommended to go with the fastest RAM. True?

Fast ram is always a good thing but if you aren't gaming (and haven't specified what other software you use) then at face value get whatever the fuck.

> Are 550 watts enough?

If its a quality unit and not a shanghai street special, sure.
>>
>>61247252
for ryzen fast ram is great since cpu performance scales with ram speed due to the architecture relying on the new kinds of chipsets that do some wizardry for you. any b350 motherboard is really enough for gayman. i do recommend msi, gigabyte or asus though. 550w is enough really. though you might get into trouble if you decide to add a second graphicscard. that being said sli or crossfire scaling are bullcrap and bad and if you decide to upgrade to a singular more powerful card in the future youre set, power requirements usually go down in future generations and efficiency usually goes up. just dont skimp on the powersupply its your lifeblood and safetynet. be sure to get one with surge protection and as many safety features as you can get, be quiet and corsair are always safe bets for powersupplies.
>>
>>61247427
>msi, gigabyte or asus

Literally the three brands that offer the worst AM4 boards.

Just programming and some music production
>Fast ram is always a good thing but if you aren't gaming (and haven't specified what other software you use) then at face value get whatever the fuck.
Since low latency is important in music production, I guess fast RAM will be crucial for me
>If its a quality unit and not a shanghai street special, sure.
Does SeaSonic still make good PSUs?
>>
>>61247442

>Just programming and some music production

Then whatever - your board isn't going to be relevant unless you are overclocking (which you have not specified) or need a million drives.
>>

GB B350 Gaming 3 + R5 1600 + LPX 3200

Even with the latest F5 BIOS I can only get the RAM to run at 2933. 3200 will boot sporadically; most of the time it just loops. Once it boots it's completely stable though.

Haven't tried bumping up the SOC voltage from the default 1.1V.

At my work we use Team Group memory which isn't recognised by XMP and the default settings stop the boards from booting.
However if I manually put the timings, voltages etc. it works perfectly. Have you tried that?

Pic related, it's the ram we use, 16GB 3000mhz for the same price as 2133 Crucial/Patriot ram here in Australia.
>>
>>61249176
4500MHz RAM? You only need about half that.
>>
>>61245703
My Crosshair VI is pretty good.
With AGESA 1.0.0.6, everything works perfectly.
I'm running my G.Skill 3200C14 at it's XMP settings.

Asus does make a few mistakes on their trimmed down "GAMING PRO" boards, but their top and low-mid tier boards are very good.
>>
>>61249176
Ryzen tops out at a theoretical 4000MHz by the inherent design of the memory controller.
This is a realistic limit of 3933MHz, which has only officially been achieved by ONE hardcore overclocker.

That's complete horse shit though. The Crosshair VI is rivalled only by the Taichi. The Prime X370-Plus has the best VRM setup of any mid-range board. The Prime B350-Plus is the best value of the budget boards.

MSI's B350 boards are also better than most. It's only the Xpower Platinum that's a complete piece of shit.

Was just planning on buying the 32gb 3200 Quad kit that is on the QVL list, but wondering if I'm missing something and shooting myself in the leg by doing 3200 period and/or using a quad kit. I'm not above using 2666, but alot of the 3200 kits are about the same price as the 2666's.

the first release of the bios on that motherboard supports 1700 so bios should not be the issue.

Is Asrock reliable as a whole? I mean, they've just discontinued a 4 month old board (X370) because of some PCB defect that was short changing the ram, what's to say they didn't fuck up with the B350's too?

Looking at the "Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4" btw, and that MSI Tomahawk.
>>
>>61256184
Never heard of any problems
For a B350 board look at the MSI pro carbon and Krait and the Asrock Pro4
Solid VRM and solid boards overall
>>
>>61256224
Thanks, I'll check out the pro carbon and asrock pro4; the krait isn't available in my country (like so much other fucking shit ffs).

When I update my BIOS on mine to both v3.20 and v3.30 my 1600 gets stuck at 1550 MHz no matter what I do. I have to stick with v3.10 (the one it came with) and I can't get my ram past 2667 even though it's QVL at 3200 MHz and the XMP profile doesn't work. I've tried setting VRAM voltage to 1.5 and setting ultra loose timings in an attempt to step it up, but it can't do anything. Funny thing is I can run stupidly low timings at 2667, well below what 2667 ram sticks would normally run at.

Their support team just said "lol just wait for more updates"

how did you get the total speed in there?

My says 2400MHz in bios but 1200 in Task Manager

One point of note, pro4 is 3+2 vrm not 4+3 or 6+3 like many thought

my gigabyte r5 runs out of the box at 2800 (32gb 3200 ddr4). is it worth to overclock to 3200?
>>
is this the power of AMD?
>>
>>61256903
Double data rate, your memory runs at 1200MHz but you get 2400MT/s (megatransfers/s) of throughput.

The same thing happens to me. If I go beyond a certain voltage and whenever I wake my computer up from sleep, it downclocks to 1.55 GHz Goes back up to 3.7 GHz (the highest I can get without raising the voltage to a point where it automatically downclocks) when I reboot. This 1.55 number has been noted by a lot of others and no one seems to know how to fix it yet.

I feel like I'm being cucked out of performance and I hope they figure this shit out soon.

Do you have any OC settings set?

Similar thing happen to me, on certain combination i got stuck at 2200 mhz. fix it by shutdown and drain power. tryin to avoid those combination

finally i found my 4ghz, but want those issue fix

Crucial value 2x16 gb rated for 2133 MHz cas 15 runs fine at 3200 MHz cas 16 at 1.4 volt (vsoc 1.0 volt).
At 220€ that's by far the best RAM you can get for ryzen.

I had it too. I had to roll back my BIOS as I mentioned earlier in >>61256605
Mine was stuck at 1.55 whenever I overclocked and the vcore was going up to 1.46v automatically.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but I increased the CPU clock and voltage in the BIOS and set windows 7 to high performace or whatever it's called in the power settings. I also disabled cool n quiet in the BIOS since I heard that leads to downclocking when idling.

>>61258792
yeah it's annoying, sorry.

I'll try that when I get home. My mobo (Gaming 5) arrived with BIOS version F4. I flashed it to F6 without a second thought. Thank you for the suggestion- there's no risk of bricking anything by rolling back to an old version, right?

You shouldn't have to worry about it bricking from retrograding. It just flashes a new ROM over the existing one in the motherboards EEPROM. There's no kind of dependencies and whatnot like software installed into an operating system. I did the same thing after I got home and flashed from the MSI v1.31 to v1.33 right away after building and my shit was fucked. It took me all day after work to figure it out and make sure it wasn't some other power setting or whatever. I eventually tried 1.31 which worked and then tried 1.32 which didn't and went back to 1.31 again. The 1.31 version is the 1.0.04 AGESA update for MSI boards. MSI just released the 1.0.0.6 update BIOS (1.34) so I will try that and see if I have any luck with it. You might want to try your board's specific 1.0.0.4 BIOS update first to see if it works.

Thanks lad

iktf, I spent most of last weekend tinkering until I said fuck it and was satisfied with rebooting every time it downclocked.

Did a bios update and it fixed it, now it runs at 2993.
