No, they just drop doing proper updates for the drivers after about a year, and new drivers run the cards worse because they only optimize for the latest series of card for about a year.

So basically, people who buy flagship Nvidia products get a card that will run like shit after 2 years. It's not "gimping" persay, it's just not giving a fuck about your hardware.
