i found a supplier on alibaba who looks super legit. it's not just a middleman/reseller.

on the first day i talked to them they were pretty quick to reply. after checking with china post they got back to me about the shipping. they could do the cheapest and slowest shipping option with china post, or fedex for not that much more because they get a volume discount.

i asked what payment method they prefer and if they could use the particular tariff classification code i had in mind. an hour later i wrote another message asking if paypal would be an appropriate payment method.

since then they have read both messages and they haven't responded in over a day.

do they think i'm a scammer who wants to chargeback the paypal payment? or are they trying to figure out the tariff classification code stuff? should i just wait and give them more time to respond? what do

Got myself a really cheap true RMS multimeter from Banggood: the AN8002 for about 14$.

It has a nice handy format and simple stand that works well enough.
Display is big and good to read and has backlight, which annoyingly turns off after a few seconds automatically.
Measurements update quickly and the continuity buzzer works really well and fast (but like many other meters it uses a very high tone that my damaged hearing barely picks up on).
It additionally comes with a thermocouple and a bag that I'm never going to use.

The eevblog forums have a tear down of it which reveals to no one's surprise that the CAT rating is complete bullshit.

Received my pair of KZ ZS5. It's so much better than the ZST it's almost unreal. So much more detail, and even if the response doesn't seem really neutral to me (too much bass), it sounds really good overall.

I don't usually buy chink shit, this time though I went for a cheap-as-possible DAC with TOSLINK input. Didn't care much about quality, all I wanted to do was connect a newer TV which only has an optical output to an older mini-hifi which only has analog input.

I'm pretty damn pleasantly surprised with this thing, I was half expecting it to not work or be dysfunctional in some way which made it unusable in practice, but it's actually pretty decent. It doesn't sound as quite good as my "proper" DAC, it's a bit muddier and not as crystal clear and the output level is much lower, but it's actually quite close and can actually take 24b/96kHz input over optical. I also heard a few soft pops over maybe ~1h of playing with it. Surprisingly good SNR too seemingly, I couldn't hear any noise at all with my ear next to my speakers with the amp turned up to above-normal volume and nothing playing. Not bad at all, more than good enough for what I intend to do with it.

my KZ-ATE and Gearfit2 and Sunglasses came in the mail

I cycle everyday and play alot of hi-res 24 flac. I am using the watch as an expensive remote controll for playing 24bit/48khz rips on my iphone6s through an awesome app called "canopener" it has the best equaliser i have found on iOS.

Anyhows my first impressions of the KZ-ATE is that they are truely a meme worthy heaphone. The mids and highs have so much detail - the mid bass is a bit boomy and sub-bass missing but managed to iron it out with a subtle EQing

The whole system works amazing well together - its got that real rich musical hifi sound and i dont have to constantly take my phone out of my pocket... will definately be pulling the trigger on some KZ ZS-5 !

A good source will sound good on both speakers and headphones. I don't really know much about other chink DACs and with my purchase the goal really was to get it as cheap as possible, so no idea what you can find for $50. If you're using a desktop PC as a source you should also consider a sound card if the integrated one isn't up to you standards (but keep in mind they can be pretty damn good nowadays). I used to have a Xonar DX and to my ears it sounds pretty much identical to my $300 non-chink hi-fi DAC, which was obviously a waste of money in retrospect. Xonar DX also measures very well, at least if you're not going to drive picky headphones straight from the card.
