I'd like to see this elaborated on in a way that isn't primarily just people claiming PS is better because they don't know how to use gimp.
I'm sure PS is the standard and that has major advantages in communication with other artists but if you were completely isolated what makes gimp bad?
This confuses and enrages adopajeets

Is there a program similar to paint for linux? I don't care about all the high end magic of photoshop I just want something that will let me draw rectangular black boxes on things ie. my cock
>>61225020
gimp is good, but not for art. When i try to draw with krita however is spikes my cpu a fair bit

All of them are garbage for high dpi displays except MyPaint
If you have a normal display though theres a shitload. Just search paint alternativr linux. You can also install mspaint on wine without issues.

GIMP is for editing primarily, not for vector drawing. Use Inkscape if you feel that bothered.
Oh, right, you are not really that bothered. You are just a shill.

GIMP can add circles just fine.

>>61225521
>>61225057
I don't get the facination of making circles. GIMP is an image manipulator, not a paint application. The word "Image Manipulator" is in the acronym for GIMP as well. Also consider that you can easily make a circle using the round selection tool and that you really don't need a separate button.
It's not like I've never utilized Photoshop. I have. Honestly, there is very little that I would use Photoshop for that I cannot already do in GIMP. The button for making circles in Photoshop is superfluous and is existent purely for people who are too retarded to use a selection tool and/or use a vector based drawing program for drawing their stupid fucking circles.
>>61228790
You can draw black boxes in GIMP. Use the square selection tool to select an area, fill area with black color and then deselect.
Or use Krita, Inkscape, fuck even LibreOffice Draw.

Unix philosophy:

Photo manipulation is not the same thing as drawing, you sperg. Unix has nothing to do this.
>>61225985
Main reason why I use gimp more often than photoshop is that it is more lightweight and quicker for the simpler tasks. Anytging else, though, photoshop is loads better.
>>61229580
>more lightweight
yeah no, maybe if your using cs3 or something.

Sounds about right.
>>61229638
cloud or cs6? i used cs5 on my 2009 maacbook and it worked fine, and i use cs6 on my desktop and it loads faster than gimp aand uses the same system resources
>>61225104
Lack of elaborated algorithms, like the corrective brush or 3D lighting functions or I don't know animation, or the way it handles brushes together with a graphic pad.
Photoshop can be used like a hammer but once you actually need to do things more than selecting pixels and moving them or painting a red box it has quite a lot of advanced tools, something the free community can't give
>>61229699
Cloud because my school provides it for free. I use both of them on the same system and gimp loads instantly while there is a slight delay for photoshop. I haven't done any legitamate testing, but I feel that gimp acts more responsively than photoshop. Maybe adobe fucks me with some background updates?
>>61225104
I've never used Photoshop, but I understand that one of the major complaints about functionality in Gimp is the lack of adjustment layers/non-destructive editing. According to the Gimp roadmap, this has been slated for Gimp 3.2.
Another thing that is often mentioned is CMYK handling, but I strongly suspect that this is just something that retards on /g/ gargle about since they can't think of anything else. The number of people in the world who need proper CMYK management can't possibly be so large that it would spill over into /g/.
>>61229738
>t. has no idea what he is talking about
There is 1 thing gimp lacks that professionals need and you couldnt name it in your pointless rambling
>>61225438
I think they have different uses

Then it's not actually taking advantage of your CPU.

It uses an inferior toolkit, GTK, while Photoshop just uses the Windows API.
Photoshop can't make green peppers.
It's so sad that GIMP and Inkscape are so shitty, If my work wouldn't depend on Adobe products - I could use Linux full-time.

>>61229788
Sorry if I didn't answer, I was working the whole day with Photoshop and after effects, we're making an opera, and we need to do graphic contents for the scenography
Of course I don't know what I'm talking about and of course every professional (which clearly is not me) knows the only reason we're not using it according to a freetard on 4chan.
Listen, I tried the free route when I was young and broke, GIMP is the greatest fail in the GNU world, on the first sight it lacks basically every comfy function Photoshop has and even if there is that's not something usable as a daily driver.
Photoshop is the most used tool for everyone in the digital arts world, whatever we do we open it at least daily, and I only do videos. We just can't afford something that "may work, you just have to know it", we need to move pixels fast and easy.
