What does /g/ think about AI virtual assistants, such as Hal Assistant, Denise, Braina, etc?
Also: are there any similar, open source projects worth checking out?

she's pretty hot...
All completely useless and gimmicky

Virtual assistants are 30 years behind wrt to all other applications of AI.
Today I asked Google what I had planned for tomorrow morning and it wasn't able to respond, same thing with Siri on the iPad.

I remember back then I had an Anime Girl floating around my windows 98 Desktop. You could even grope her and pull up her skirt.... she'd got anry at that though.
Basically something like Desktop Stripper(?) but 2D and without actual nudity. Forgot the name though.
That said, "virtual assistants" like those you interact over microphone are scary.

yeah, hence my question whether there were any open source alternatives. Normally I don't care enough about viewing the source code of a program, but I'd love to see what makes these AI's tick for many, many reasons, including concerns about privacy.
