Quick question.
Say im looking for a watch with a visible tourbillion that
A) is not shit at time keeping
B) is somewhat affordable (400 bucks tops)
>>
>>61218865
Nope. Cheapest Chinese tourbillon is 500usd+. If you want a visible balance wheel (that isn't a tourbillon) find something from orient, they have good timekeeping and decent looks for the price.

Guys my sne437 is keeping time too well. I keep trying to hook it up to a timer and regulate it but it's never off. Also It never needs to be wound or set when not worn for a little while?

What can I do? A watch is supposed to be an unreliable thing that is always gaining or losing time and quits if you don't wear it for a few hours and needs costly servicing, but I never have to take mine to a watch repair shop

i feel left out

What's the cheapest radio controlled terrorist watch? Solar charging is a bonus but not necessary.

I don't want to spend money on a g-shock because my $15 one will probably last longer than me already, but it's somewhat annoying having to set its time constantly. >>61229625
This watch is quartz, but the chrono hand beats 5 times per second, like on an automatic movement.

And since this is a solar watch, could you keep the chrono hand running 24/7 without fear of draining the battery?
>>
>>61227896
I was on my way back from camping on a lake when i took that photo. I paddled and swam in the lake with that watch but at night around the fire it was useless... last time i wore a Vostok and i had to take it off to chop wood, could not see the shitty lume ,and it had rust on it by the time i got back.

>>61229711
Probably. Assuming its the same movement as sna411 the chrono can run for like 3 months before a battery change.

This is a solar watch though, it gets recharged by light.

Not sure if the added drainage reduces the lifetime of the electronics though.

Hey /g/uys! Last week I came on here and asked advice about getting an alphashark strap. Heard great things about it so I ordered one. Came in this morning. It is incredible. The material feels super premium, the hardware looks great, and it feels so comfy on my wrist. Quality wise it is right there with the nato strap on my Dad's Omega.

Deadbeat seconds is a complication where the balance wheel still beats several times a second but it only moves the seconds hand once per second. Are there movements where the balance itself actually beats once per second?

Ideally it's got to have a metal bracelet and nothing much more than £250, give me your recommendations.

>How cheap are we talking? I've always thought the Atmos seemed really cool but I'm not looking to spend thousands on a desk clock. And how much maintenance do they need anyway? I assume that movement is really delicate.
not that guy but you can find them cheap because normies buy them then never service them. They can be quite expensive to get running and keeping good time if they have not been taken care of
>>
>>61234096
You can buy 30 year old Atmos clocks in eBay for well under a grand. The service interval for an Atmos in good condition is quite long. I'd expect you to be able to get an Atmos that is in fair condition serviced for a couple hundred dollars. Should be able to be decently less than 1500 altogether, quite possibly less - a lot has to do with whether the one you buy is any good.

They're better than rotary - fossil has decent QC and will stand behind returns. Rotary is one of those brands notorious for horrible QC and watches that die in a few months.

>>
>>61235017
>Holy shit that's incredible. What's the lifetime on it.
It has to be set up perfectly level and not be fucked with or moved without locking the balance wheel. If you want to move it across the room or if you are moving you can't just stick it in a box and move it or you will fuck it up, people don't know that.

When you see a $5000 clock on ebay for $400 you should have questions, lots of questions

http://www.crownandbuckle.com/elden-black-label-strap.html

Would look good on my 1963?
>>
>>61235197
There's no special tech. The deadbeat (sorry, "true beat") second is a cool complication but nothing that hasn't been done before.
>>
>>61235243
Is that a mechanical which ticks once per second ?
>>
>>61235262
The balance wheel inside oscillates multiple times per second; there is an additional contraption in the watch that takes the many-per-second advances of the escape wheel and turns them into a once-per-second advancement of the second hand. Up to you whether that counts as "ticking' once per second. If you hold the watch up to your ear, you'll hear many ticking noises per second (just like any traditional mechanical watch), because the ticking noise in a mechanical watch comes from the escpament, not the second hand.
>>
>>61235236
>http://www.crownandbuckle.com/elden-black-label-strap.html
yeah I like it.
>>
>>61235262
Yes, sort of. The movement ticks several times per second but the second hand ticks once per second. It's also called seconde morte if you're pretentious. It used to be a cool desirable complication until quartz watches came out which all ticked like that, then it stopped being cool. Even Rolex made some deadbeat watches for a while, and they're not very big on complications. Lately it's sort of coming back into fashion I guess.

At the cheapest end there is a slav quartz model.
Then, if you can settle for a seagull movement you can find a few for around 300.
For luxury watches, the JLC MUT moon is nice. The new moonphase Cellini is pretty cool by Rolex. Omega also has them in some speedmasters.

So I'd say that "not shit" is at $350, but the Archies among us might say $8500 for the JLC.

I'm gonna do the unthinkable /wt/, and I'm going to use a dive watch for snorkeling. Is Zulu (3 or 5 ring) more secure than Nato? I've been swimming with nato before and the force of the water was enough to fold out the end of the strap from under the rings a few times. I do have a Citizen rubber strap but I don't trust springbars either.

Also what is the best neon color for the strap in case it DOES fall off and I have to look for it? Lime, orange, yellow or what?

Is that... a Steinhart homage?
>>
>>61244343
Senpai you're going snorkeling, I would be more worried about bad WR then one of the springbars popping off or a high visibility strap. Its Probably going to be fine with a standard nato

The orion is the best looking. I'm going for a dress watch.
Also the alpha, although based on the peseux 7001 it's still wholly made by Nomos instead of sourced from a third party. (Except for hairspring and shock resistance)

I'd like the DUW 3001 as well but not in any of the watches they currently sell.
I wasn't aware that it had a higher power reserve though.

I'll have it tested. Again. It's an Amphibia so I'll be pressure testing it at both half a bar and as far as the machine can go (either 5 or 10 bar). I feel this is necessary with compressor-case watches, their Achilles-heel is that they're perfectly watertight at higher pressures but might leak near the surface.

Also even if it's a shitty Amphibia I spent a lot of time modding it so I'd hate for it to fall off, especially since I'm a mediocre swimmer moron who never even snorkeled before.

That's Suwa Seikosha for you. Most of their 1960s-1970s movements have some poor design choices. Daini Seikosha did not tend to make the same mistakes in their movement designs. My 1975 KS Special has 300+ amplitude dial up, and every LM Special I've handled hits at least 220 dial up post servicing.

My 1975 7019C does 260° dial up which I think is not bad for a 7000 series that was never serviced and ran dry as fuck for decades. Though I did have to replace the balance for a new one, the pivots were worn short.

I'm looking at amazon.de, and the prices for nato straps seem to vary a lot.

Is there much difference between a 6€ nato and a 24€ one?

Daini Seikosha was one of the better production movement designers of the 1970s, and very few of their movement designs had any nasty tendencies. The 51xx, 52xx, 19xx, 68xx, and 70xx were all fundamentally sound designs, with only the 45xx having a tendency to excessive wear (though it's accuracy made up for that). Hell, two of those movements are still in use by Credor (the 52xx as the 4s15 and the 68xx was the basis for Credor's recent tourbillon).
>>
>>61245106
7000 series are still in use too as the 7S26 (and the 6R and 4R series), with a lot of parts being interchangeable as far as having the same part number as the 70's versions.
>>
>>61245256
I totally didn't realize the 7sXX/4RXX/6RXX were based that heavily on the 70xx. That's really interesting.

Looking to get a band like this.
Any idea where? Obviously not a Rolex one, looking to spend MAX $50, not $2400.

As a heads up, you are very likely to be disappointed by the quality of cheap metal bracelets.

For what watch? If your budget were a little higher you could try strapcode.
Your best shot might be chink shit at that price though.

A cheap ass quartz that's going to get beat to hell. It's not for any of my nice watches.
Honestly, the cheaper the better as long as it looks like that and is decent.
I'm fine with chink shit.

Why does somebody still need to wear a watch when they are carrying a cellular phone all the time?
