>What is Matrix?
Matrix is a free, open source, and decentralized chat platform.
>Why should I use it?
Matrix has all the modern features of Discord while also making encryption available for user privacy and allowing for users to host their own instances. It's fast, free, and easy to use!

Matrix is yet another shitty irc replacement.
>>61218950
It's better than IRC though.
Granted, most things are better than IRC at this point, and IRCv3 has little going for it.

Does Matrix have voice chat lobbies like discord for multiple users to chat together?
>>61221553
Matrix does audio/video calls as conferences.
For the organization of voice chats as lobbies, there's Mumble.
>>61221845
So it doesn't have a basic feature of Discord - the primary feature, really.
Fucking DOA. The reason people use Discord is that Voice Chat and text chat are integrated easily and closely together in one application.
>>61221872
Matrix isn't meant to be an exact clone of Discord, anon. It has its own merits as an extensible, federated, and FOSS messenger, and only exists as a base protocol for clients and services to be built around.
It still does both audio and video calls. If you needed to segregate certain calls from a room you're in, it is incredibly easy to start a new room, invite only those you want to chat with, and call them up in a conference.
By the same logic, I could call Discord dead for literally any purpose besides video games because it lacks video chat.

I don't know who you think uses this shit besides gamers, cuntbagle.
It's DOA. This is a basic feature.
