I am about to get a G5+, is there anything else under $200 that could get my attention? Phablet-size, water resistance, and NFC would be nice.

I'm in America btw

(reposting for more responses)
>>
>>61211415

I just submitted my order for a 2GB G5+. There simply isn't anything that matches the value.

>band 12
>decent international band support
>good camera
>good battery life
>good fingerprint sensor
>microSD
>$229

I looked at so many phones. The only thing in the ballpark was a 1st gen Z Play but it was $150 more for basically a type-c port and battery life
>>
>>61211441
and also...great ROM community. This is something I've always appreciated after the OEM gives up.

Should I root my Galaxy Note 4? It's doing just fine and lasts all day but I want to remove all that bloatware. I don't use the fingerprint sensor or camera that often so I don't mind if I lose those. Any good ROMs for it or should I just root and stay with stock?

What does /g/ think of carrying around phablets in your pockets all day? Is it bearable?

I'm thinking of switching to a Redmi Note 4 from an Applel iOS device.
>>
>For starters, instead of the rumored Snapdragon 660 CPU, the Moto X4 is now said to include Qualcomm's Snapdragon 630 chipset, which accommodates eight cores clocked at 2.2GHz. Also, the phone is now said to be powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, much smaller than the previously reported 3,800 mAh battery.
>>

I have this same question. The redmi note 4 keeps getting recommended but I get annoyed about carrying an iphone 4s in my pocket, I cannot imagine carrying a phablet around.

How does the redmi 4 prime compare to note 4/4x?
>>
Best choices that fit these requirements?
In order of importance

> band 12 tmobile support
> excellent battery life
> decent camera
> good performance, minimum sd 625
> fingerprint scanner
> 5.5" minimum
> $400 budget

Willing to buy used on swappa or others. Will be keeping this for minimum 2 years so longevity is important as well. Best choices so far look like, honor 8, moto z play 1st gen, 1+3t, moto g5+, axon 7, zenfone 3 zoom

>>
Does anyone here have S7 Edge?

My Edge screen turned black and the blue led light glowed. I tried vol down + power, nothing. It would get to the powered by android screen then back to the start.

So I tried vol up + home + power, and forced a reboot. Something did happen, as I got to the powered by android menu, then to the repeating Samsung logo, then back to the powered by android, then to the repeating samsung logo, by this point all these green artifacts and lines appeared on the screen then the phone died completely, no more blue light.

Now it won't respond to anything, the battery was almost fully charged. It doesn't even respond to sticking the charger. Am I completely fucked or is there anything you can do?

Question for fellow lg g3 owners
My battery has shit itself (it appears so at least, I'm getting those random reboots and boot loops). No surprise here, it's 3 years old and I've read they usually survive 1 year.
Can you recommend a good 3rd party battery? Only new akken batteries I've found are sold at 900 USD so obvious no go there
Are those akku polar cell any good?
This is the problem I'm having with my g3, if anyone can confirm it's battery related and not the mobo (running fulmics 7.5)
- The phone freezes for a couple seconds and then reboots, most of the times entering boot loop showing the lg logo, then shutting off, then lg logo etc
- Sometimes I get boot certification error or kernel crash, which I think and hope its caused by voltage spikes during boot up caused by the effective battery
- Phone works fine 95% of the time when connected to the wall charger, sometimes it still reboots
- Recovery works perfectly, have tried bumping kernel and reflashing firmware
Any help is GREATLY appreciated

>>

X compact is faster, but looks butt-ugly and no water resistance
>>
I got a zenphone 2

I love it, but i am probably gonna think about upgrading soon. Not because its not performing good enuoug but more I would like something more powerful.

Time spent on phone is usually;

-Using clover/chrome/reddit/youtube
-Games, but nothing intensive really and I never stick with games on my phone long, i really do only play them in the toilet
-Watching porn in bed when gf too tired to play
-taking pictures of gf ass when shes not looking then sending them to her weeks later

So my req are not high but I want something that performs fast. No apple stuf. My gf always has the latest iphone and they are such a fucking chore, not to mention everything feels slower on it, whether its just my perception or true idk. Such a pain to do what should be simple stuff like taking some images off and putting on the computer or sending video files between phones.

Duel sim is important actually, I go between two countries a lot for work so I have two sims, its been really handy with this phone just keeping them both in constantly and deactivating the unused one each time im out of the country.

Not urgent but I dont keep up with smartphone stuff, so is there anything coming out before the end of the year I should keep and eye out for? Budget is whatever I always make phones last.

I bought my OnePlus 5 a week ago. It's lightning fast but everything else is mediocre. The battery feels like the OnePlus one did at first. Lasts a long time at first but wears out quickly and will hardly last an hour after a month. The fact that they only allow their own cables for fast charging is also a weak factor.

Meanwhile there is a sale on Galaxy S8+ right now where it's only about 200 USD more expensive than the OP5. Should I go for it instead?

So if you go to "recent tabs" your other device isn't listed there with all the open tabs? Have you checked that "open tabs" is being synced? Maybe try on desktop chrome if it is showing the open tabs.

>>
>>61214380
The device is shown and sync is enabled on it. When i press open all it opens about a quarter of what i have open on my old phone, and most of what it opens are tabs i have closed, not ones that are currently open.

willmyphonework.net lists the Redmi Note 4X incorrectly. The Redmi Note 4X "international model" is actually the Redmi Note 4 Global

http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_4-8531.php#global
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-note-4-global-3gb-32gb

China (High edition) and China (standard edition) is the actual Redmi Note 4X
http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_4x-8580.php
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-note-4x

As far as I understand neither phone will work with Freedom but the 4 Global will work fine with most other Canadian carriers.
>>
>>61215830
Thanks for figuring it out! I just want to use Freedom since I have a grandfathered plan, unlimited data for $30. The GSMArena page for the Global model actually lists it as supporting 1700/2100, which is what AWS LTE band 4 is. Which I think means that'll work!
>>
>>61215879
It won't !! You will not get ANY 3G service anywhere in Canada, and 4G only in Eastern Ontario. Rest of Freedom Mobile's network is LTE Band 66/AWS-3.

Buy it used with the controller. If you think your gonna do quick 1hr sessions your right. There simply are not many HQ games that last longer. The quality of the gear vr itself is top notch though.

What's the best phone these days if I want LONG battery life.
I have an HTC one M7.
Do modern phones have any better battery life or not?
I haven't been impressed with recent releases
>>
>>61216508
Anything with a Snapdragon 625 and a big battery so
Redmi Note 4X / 4 Global
Redmi 4 Prime
Lenovo P2
Moto G5 Plus
Moto Z Play
>>
>>61216508
I have an S5 and I've looked into Lenovo P2. I've decided it's a worthy upgrade. Just look at this:
https://youtu.be/HTX00bmj0LI
https://youtu.be/ST2PSzaYiRs
>>
>>61214479
>>61215014
1. No op5 for comparison.
2. Much less then the s7 but still some made it through.
3. Glass is durable but does sctrach if your not careful about placement. There are many screen protectors from7$ to 35$. Take your pick. I tried them both. The 35$ has sealhealing.
4. Not really that but it is annoying to look at videos.
>>
>>61216540
This too, depending on availability. Good recommendations.
>>
>>61216386
I have slightly curved bezels but flat screen. Sits more comfortably in my hand.

Is there even any reason anymore for anyone to consider buying iPhone 7?

I feel I'd even rather choose Xiaomi Redmi over iPhone.
>>
i take a shit ton of videos so would a lg G6 be good for me. Price is low and i need a good phone right now because my s7 is basically dying at this point.
>>
>>61216508
Im getting 8hr43min left with only 53%. Some one else posted a grab of them getting 43hr.
Both s8+
>>
>>61216590
>>61216540
Given that these phones cost a fraction of what Samsung, HTC, Google and LG flagships cost, forget iPhone, I'd recommend P2 out of these or any similar phone with perhaps better specs and mandatory custom ROM support.
>>
>>61216590
Better camera mainly
>>
Yeah, iPhone has a better camera, but that's it. Its' design is so deprecated at this point, and S8 made a jump so huge that it isn't even funny anymore. I once liked iPhones, but this is just sad. They'll probably come up with something good this year, but they are still years behind.

For me, iPhone would have to cost the same price as Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 MAXIMUM to even consider buying it.
>>
>>61216617
That's all well and good if true, but let's not forget their pricing, edge glare and the fact that they're harder to protect with a case.

Switch that to AMOLED cinema, AMOLED photo or Basic and you’ll lose your color balance changes. Also, changes won’t take effect if you have the blue light filter on.
>>

Can it really compete aside from that great battery?

>>61216561
The screen glare is the thing I mentioned here. I have the folding case from samsung. Never fell out of its holding.
And yah it is expensive I never said its the cheapest bang for the buck. Far from it. But if you want it and got the money I recommend it.
>>
>>61216763
Oh ok, so the people recommending the redmi note 4 over the 4X are talking about US bands then?

I'm dumb and figured western nations all used roughly the same bands.
>>
>>61216774
The Note 4 Global is recommended because it is the only version that has band 4 LTE (used in many countries in the Americas) and band 20 (used in almost every European country).

For most Asian countries either version will work just fine.
>>
>>61216836
Isn't the Note 4 based solely in India?
>>
>>61216767
>Dude the tint thing was fixed the first month. And mine didn't even have it when I bought it from T-Mobile.
Doesn't change the fact that all models didn't pass quality control, but were still shipped to customers and at full price. I'd think that the sensible thing to do is not to gamble with an ~800 $ purchase.
>>
>>61216836
Would a 4X be a decent choice then considering it is cheaper on banggood?
I do wish it had NFC though.
>>
>>61216470
Passport is a good choice but at this point software is abadonware... on the other hand priv has some problems, it heats and some say build quality isn't the best. last but not least the locked bootloader. i'm currently using a passport and i love it

Best thing to buy for $200-300 in the US? I'd prefer it to be under $200 but it'd have to match the performance of flagships and have a screen around (or above if possible) 5.5 inches.

I don't know anything about "bands" so I'm not sure what to look for.

I'm considering the LG G5 (or the V20, is it better?) and any of the current gen flagship phones (G6, S8, OP5, etc)

>The strange thing I am finding is how much people praise the Note 7 over the S7E , even though its mostly the same phone.
I mean, the Note 7 is prettier, has a better screen, stylus support and USB-C.

The battery is worse and it's more expensive though.

I just got the Moto g5+. Pretty good for around $229. 2gb ram, 32gb hdd. My wife got the 4gb/64gb for $299. With Amazon ads it's $229.

I didn't know Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility. I didn't like what they did to the Thinkpads... I guess I'll wait for a new Nokia then.

Anyone here use a mi band?
I cannot take out phones in the lab but watches are ok so was thinking of grabbing some kind of smartwatch/tracker that will show messages I receive as well as the time.

Already planning to grab a redmi note 4X so I may as well go full chink botnet.

Why is the Nokia 6 being released so damn late in high market regions when smartphone tech is advancing so fast? And the 7, 8, and 9? I don't get it.

If you have Prime you can get it for $240 w/ lock screen ads.

Moved from a blackberry to redmi note 4. Blackberry had completely cooked it and I wanted a cheapish replacement.

No regrets. Biggest phone I've owned but pretty dope - not a problem with my jeans and I'm a skinny guy who doesn't wear cargo pants
