Hacked 3DS/Vita/PSP

PSP doesn't do SNES very good
Vita/PSP can do PS1
3DS can do DS games with a flashcart plus ROMs for lots of other systems

Switch isn't worth getting yet imo, PSP is probably a good start unless you really care about vita games.

Check the vitahacks subreddit. Basically can replace the game card slot with a microsd adapter and use it for storage.
The Vita has to be on 3.60 to run Henkaku and use the custom driver for it. One user is having a bunch of boards made up and assembling them for about $10 USD + shipping.

You can do the same thing with a 3G Vita since the 3G card is basically using USB but it's more internalized.
The vita memory card is proprietary but the game card slot shares the same pinout as microsd.

Get a hacked PSP, you wont regret it. It's the ultimate emulation device.

A hacked PSP can emulate everything up to SNES, GBA etc and also PS1. There are emulators for pretty much every exotic system out there.

Playing C64 games for examples with no load times, no crashes and tight PSP controls is an awesome experience.

If you can get a Vita with firmware 3.60 or below (or buy a used mobo from Aliexpress and swap it) the Vita blows the PSP out of the water, since it can PSP games. It can even do screen filtering for PSP games.

PSP's are going up in price since they are getting old enough to be "collectors" so the market is a bitch.
I was lucky to find a PSP Go on ebay for $40 "not working" but all it needed was a charger. It worked perfectly fine.

I bought a PSP (2000 model) years ago when they were still current and I was flush with disposable income. I promptly forgot about it, and never bought a single game for it. I've been thinking I should dig it out and install some emulators. Where should I start?

Keep an eye on the Switch. Once it's hacked and has emulator applications, it'll most likely be the best portable emulator on the market. Current models should become much cheaper when they inevitably make the superior model version of it too.
