there are an assorted amount of games on Linux tho.

the point is, are you intending to install linux on a gaming computer? if yes, then you are an idiot, theres no practical reason for. nvidia and radeon graphics drivers are a headache on linux.

if you are installing linux on a common laptop or regular non gaming computer then go for it. the games you can run on windows on these hardware will pretty much run on wine on linux.
>>
>>61188301
>half
Not even. Most of the shit available for Linux on Steam or GOG is 2d shit that everyone played 15 years ago already. Wine is fucking garbage for 90% of modern 3D games. Emulators fall into the same category as Steam/GoG because only hardcore nostalgiafags spend any significant amount of time playing SNES games or whatever.

Just dual boot or run a VM with a PCI passthrough (google it). I dual boot but rarely bother to boot into Windows as I only play Counter-Strike. Wine works with some games, but mostly isn't worth your time.
Anyway, you don't have to make an effort to 'switch' to linux at first. You just try it out, and think 'hey, this is pretty cool' and then you start using it more and more because it's really damn fun and then you realise that you have been sucked in and can never leave because it is too amazing.

Linux has no game-
>>
>>61188469
25% steam games, 35% GOG games. And 100% web/console games. That probably makes half the total library. You're also ignoring the fact that most windows exclusive games are cheap Japanese visual novels or generally crap. There are less than 20 good windows exclusives that have been released in the last 10 years, which is a number of games anyone can live without.
And you can still play all windows games with a KVM/passthrough.
>>

You did something wrong. Are you sure you passed through the GPU? Try installing operating systems on separate drives if you're using an HDD. HDDs have a terrible performance when running multiple operating systems because they rely exclusively on sequential reading.
>>
>>61191805
>passthrough GPU,
obviously i passed through the GPU, tho im limited to a gtx550 so propably it aint that great.

>HDDs have a terrible performance when running multiple operating systems because they rely exclusively on sequential reading.

still, i cannot see the miraculous speed boost of kvm and passthrough
>>
>>61191843
I doubt you can have a "speed boost" if you boot the device on the same HDD. HDDs are the biggest bottlenecks of modern computers. So unless you use 2 separate storage devices or an SSD both the host and the VM will have shit performance.

I find it ridiculously pointless to dual boot and switch between Linux and Windows. Seriously, WHY the fuck would I want to boot into Linux to browse the web, then reboot into Windows to do everything else. That's so fucking autisticly retarded.

The Linux community fucked Linux. Absolutely destroyed it by forking it into oblivion and making it a nightmare to develop for. Shuttleworth tried to popularize a specific build, but the only thing he showed was there's no money in developing for Ubuntu.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
