Trying to get Kali Linux at least running in a Live USB mode on my Toshiba laptop, but running into some serious difficulty.

First let me ask a question that would help me pursue what I think might be a better alternative.

1. ) I already have Kali running in VirtualBox on that laptop in NAT Network mode. Will this work for using Armitage / nmap / other pentesting tools?

2.) If anyone has suggestions, I originally tried to set it up with a Bridged Adaptor (thats how the same VirtualBox machine running off the same Kali ISO worked/is working on my desktop), but the connection is stuck on "Wired Connecting" and I have no internet in the VM. I already went to Network Connections and bridged the host-only ethernet w/ my real network, so I'm not sure why it's not working.

3.) Going back to the Kali Linux USB, anyone familiar with Linux bootable USBs and/or Toshiba have any idea why I either get "Check cable connection! PXE-M0F Exiting Intel PXE ROM." error when trying to boot?

Boot Mode was set to CSM (tried it with just UEFI, boots right into Windows, even when booting from Rufus-burned USB), USB is showing up in the Boot Order, and I used MobaLiveCD to verify that every USB I tried was bootable.

At this point, I've tried using UNetBootin, Rufus, LiLi Live USB Creator, Universal USB Installer, and Win32DiskImager to burn the same Kali Linux ISO. Every attempt, I verified the USB was bootable, but it never got me any further.

Looking forward to getting some feedback, sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading!

On Windows I use f.lux and Alt PgDown to decrease brightness when it gets too much.

What can I do on Linux?

I couldn't get a redshift gui to work, when changing temperature on command line it glitched and got stuck.

Installed flux on linux and there's no decrease brightness functionality.
>>
>>61177632
Swap is useful if:
1. You run out of memory.
In this case, you can avoid an OOM by swapping and killing performance really badly. At least until swap fills up as well.
2. You do a lot of disk io.
In this case you want the OS to swap even when you have free memory, so that actual RAM can be used for caching.
Both cases only make sence if you have very little RAM, and the more you have, the less need there is for swapping.

Only valid reason for having swap:
3. Hibernation. In this case you should have ~1.5 x your memory.

I recently built a computer and the PSU seems to be making some sort of creaking sound when I turn it off and on, occasionally at random times as well. It's the sort of sound that an old floorboard would make when you step on it (not as severe, obviously) and not an electrical sounding one, could it just be the fan hitting something or some sort of screw that's on too tight?

I haven't taken it out and reseated it but I don't really want to unless it's something severe.

in linux if i want to test that a flash drive is bootable, i'd mount it at /mnt/usb then run

you could also test writing a debian iso to a flash drive and see if you can boot from that.

If you're not satisfied with the reference cooler's noise level, an Accelero Extreme would be more than enough to silence a 980. What's more recommended? Pulling hot air out of the pc and blowing it out the back, or pulling room temp air from the back and blowing hot air into my case? I have a 100mm fan at the top blowing air out, but it seems my other devices are getting too warm for comfort.

There was at least one method of rooting your phone that used a browser exploit as part of the attack. I think it was the stock browser in 4.something.

Have you got node installed? Because at this point your problem isn't with git or github but the requirements for whatever project you have cloned. Also, you can get a zip of projects from github so you don't have to use git to dl from there.

Technically yup. You can pretty much hide junk code in any sufficiently flexible format. But then you have to deliver it which would involve leveraging an exploit in whatever image viewing software you were targeting.

I want to know my shit before I start:
Does anyone sell plasma anymore? It lost to LCD, right?

'LED' TVs are really just LCD with a LED grid as the backlight instead of the fluro tube?

'OLED' is the real LED TV, each pixel is a red green and blue LED, which is it's own 'backlight'

Well because it's impossible to import from amazon.us, and eBay and other chinese websites take months to arrive and they can get stuck at customs (which is a fucking pain in the ass, waiting hours there to get anything if you even get it), and also pay 50% taxes. Amazon EU handles everything, you only need to declare that you received your product and thats it, you also receive it in only 4 days (I would like a cheaper shipping option but whatever).

Is 70c under load normal for a 1050TI?

I had a 750 for years (non TI 1gb peasant version, but it did the job) and it would really have to be working hard to break 60c.

I popped in my brand new 1050TI yesterday and it sits at like 65-70 even on games my 750 would not crack 55?

Both are the single fan 6.5in version but I'm still rather perplexed that the newer card that only uses 20w more TDP cooks so much hotter.

Okay I have some stupid questions, and I don't frequent /g/ but I plan to start.

I took a 2 year break from programming. I was studying Java but then stopped. I'm 18 now and heading off to college for a degree in Computer Science. I was kinda meme'd into going to Computer Science because I am "always on the computer" but I think with me it is different.

I am proficient at drawing, I love to produce music, and I love to write, and with all these talents I want to make a game over the summer. One reason being is that I always wanted to convert comics I've made into games. Another reason is I want to brush up on my programming. Now I have three (6 or 7 idk) questions.

1. What would be the best programming language for a game, and I understand that you can practically make a game with any language. I'm just wondering what language would be the most efficient in handling updates. My friend told me that games made in Java are more difficult to update / change than games made in C++

2. What is the most widespread and common programming language with the most applications in the real world.

3. Do you think I should pursue a degree in Computer Science? I feel like I could pick it up on my own in a year and get another skill under my belt. Wouldn't programming just be another profession where you show your portfolio and get in through that alone? Are any of you guys proficient in programming but took a different degree path instead? What degrees did you get? (More like 6 questions).

My current schedule for the summer is:
2 hours drawing
1 hour producing music
1 hour reading
30 minutes thinking of ideas
1 paper every week on a subject I don't know anything about.

If I wanted to be able to make a simple pixel story game by the end of the summer how much time would I have to put in it per day? I was thinking 3 hours.

Anyways thanks in advance to any Anons who answer my shit.

>>61181835
like i tab out to check speedfan in the tray and i'm alarmed but then i checked the spec sheets and you can cool a goddamn steak on the back of it judging by its design specs

Luckily my PC is rather decent on cooling (apart from the fact that it eats fans every few months because I buy cheapo fans)
>>61181852
I cranked up video settings on games my old car could handle on med-high to ultra
Quadrupling my VRAM and having all the new nvidia 10 series gimmicks made me want to test it out

Still, that 750 is not an awful card for a cheapo build

If i decide to put off some other wastrel spending goals and drop the $350+ on a ryzen and new mobo/ram I might just pull this goofy ass laptop CPU/mini itx board combo out and buy a 400w PSU and build a small backup tower for my mom

Okay so I got a S8. I'm loving but I had dropped it. It wasn't even a big fall but my shit case I got didn't help. It cracked and I had to get a replacement. Got the replacement and really wanna know where I can find some shatter proof or somewhat shatter proof screen protector for it?
>>
>>61181875
What kind of cheapo fans do you use, i use $10 cooler master fans that last 2-3 years, invest in noctua fans if you change them like batteries.

GTX 750Ti was a really good card back then, worked for most stuff like the GTX 1050Ti does now.

Just crank up the fan speed to 90% and disable idle fan if you are worried.
>>
>>61181893
Base 750 1gb so not the same mighty mouse everyone thinks when you say "750"

Idk its a big ol mix of whatever chinese junk is on sale on newegg/amazon. I just throw a new one in when they start getting noisy.

My biggest hindrance to this current build is the fact that I'm using a jetway NF9G mobo because its the only thing that had everything i needed to reuse my laptop i7-2630QM when it died. I build this PC on a hella low budget but got a lot out of it. Only problem is, outside of a goofy DIY home drilled good CPU cooler, I have to use the stock 55mm fan cooler. Its just a little block of finned aluminum with a fan in it but its loud as shit.
I kinda have the "built not bought(Prebuilt) vibe going on because i'm sure no ones done this same shit or at least not exactly the same.
>>

This is maybe not the best place to ask, I don't see game development discussed here often. I would suggest picking a framework and muddling through to to make a shitty game before you go into schooling so that you have some experience and some ideas of the concepts that you would like more control over or that frustrate you the most.

Try reading three to five pages a day, understand what everything means in that book, look it up if necessary, however, if you want to do some normal programming for video games, then I'd like to suggest you stick to an engine like Unity or UE4, Unity uses C# while UE4 uses C++, some people say it's best to start with something easier than C++, say Python, but since you already learned the basic of Java, I believe it won't be difficult for you to learn C#.

Unity and UE4 have a blueprint system, visual scripting I call it, it's just another added level to "programming" but a lot easier than coding it word by word by yourself, you only have to link text bubbles with other text bubbles and you'll get a working game in no time, if you want 3D, I recommend you start with blender, it's free and also easy to learn if you look up a basic tutorial on youtube.

If you need anything else do ask.
>>
>>61182681
i mean none of these things are critical

I'm betting dollars to doughnuts that the new monitor would do better since i'm using a TV and have to fight overscanning on some programs, but Ryzen is mighty sexy for the price

My speakers audio jack are shit when you use headphones.

From 1 to around 70% of the wheel you hear pretty much nothing, then you have to set it to 100% just for regular volume.

The speakers sound good and I don't want to get rid of them, so basically what I want is a way to use my headphones on my computer with decent volume level without having to unplug my speakers from the tower every single time.

What should I get?

1) If you're thinking about "quality", commercial. 3D games, it's likely C/C++. But writing your own engine using those languages is hard, tedious and basically impossible unless you are a company instead of a person. You're more likely to end up using a finished engine like Unity or Unreal, which use scripting languages like JS to tell them what to do.

If you're thinking of simple, amateurish 2D games, basically any library for any language which offers you input handling and graphics-to-screen functionality can be enough. People tend to shit on it (probably for good reason), but I had fun with the Pygame library for Python.

2) It depends on the purpose. Basically everything eventually boils down to a C implementation, most websites run on some sort of scripting language (PHP, Perl, Python, etc), every website uses JS for client side logic, Android apps are Java, etc.

3)
>Computer Science because I am "always on the computer"
Being good at computers fucks over a lot of people (me included) by steering them towards CS, which is basically mathematics. Just in case you didn't already know, be prepared for a ton of math and other stuff which has no direct connection to making software.

If your goal is turning your art into an interactive digital medium (simple games), then CS would be overkill (but likely still a very valuable degree to have, depending on where you live).

If you want to know how to write a compiler for your brand new programming language, then CS is the way to go.

Don't take my post too seriously though, I'm just a failed CS student thinking of what to do next :)

Is there a router that has integrated similar antenna (with a smaller range of course)?
>>
>>61184411
you do understand that routers works both way?
that the device like your phone or notebook needs their antena to send signal back.. so you getting huge antena on router and placing it 1km away would be useless

unless you are thinking about wireless bridge on a long range or some shit..
>>
>>61184428
>you do understand that routers works both way?
Yes, of course.

I can barely catch some WiFi from my ISP. Access point is relatively close, but not close enough for me to have it in whole house, and can't connect every device at the same time.

People in my neighborhood use 2.4 GHz antennas such as the one on the picture connected to their routers and distribute it that way. I want to avoid similar antenna if it's possible...

>>
>>61184475
the antenas such as in your pic is to connect single device, a router, to their network over long range

its like alternative to having fiber cable dragged to you... its strange you would want to, be able to, avoid it. ISP should come, measure strength and setup everything so that you have device to which when you connect by cable you have comfortable internet

spreading that signal using wifi over your house is unrelated and different topic to the antena
>>
>>61184521

>its strange you would want to, be able to, avoid it.
Because their AP antenna is 100 meters away from my house.

>spreading that signal using wifi over your house is unrelated and different topic
That's why I'm asking if there's device that combines the both.

Or do I need to find really small antenna with RJ45 port to connect it on router?
>>
So I haven't downloaded movies and crap myself since the days of limewire (just been getting off friends) but decided it was time to do the shit for myself again.
Got myself a VPN and all that, but what sites do you actually use to get the torrents??
From what I've heard (without really looking into it) is to steer the fuck clear of piratebay and that kickass torrents has been taken down.
So where the fuck do I go for TV series and stuff?
I looked at YTS.ag and that seems pretty good but it only has movies.
>>
>>61184569
lets forget about other stuff and just this straight
ISP AP is ~100m away

do you have some router at this moment that connects to it using its own small antena? If you connect a PC to this router, do you have internet you are comfortable with?

>That's why I'm asking if there's device that combines the both.
a good router should be able to receive signal by its antena, and also spread it, thats how wireless repeaters work...
so assuming answer to above is yes, all is fine in the upstrem, you only need better coverage in your house for small devices...

Thought so, I heard somewhere that Internet Explorer is embedded inside the kernel of Windows.
>>
>>61184670
and you know how to configure that router to connect to the AP in a client mode?
cuz these routers are typicly for one thing - you plug internet in to blue WAN port and it spreads it as wifi signal around.

But you need to set it in to client mode if it can do that. So that internet comes through the air and it spreads it to its ports... or spread it afterwards through wifi

google for "tp link client mode"

anyway, this should really be your IPS businesses to set it up for you, thats why you pay them.
>>

Cheers anon. Does doing it that way through plugins provide any extra benefits over just going to that site? (other than it being easier to search them all in one place).

There was also a network name.

They use those long range antennas, although it's 10 meters from them.

About those extenders. Since this isn't my primary connection, it's actually at my weekend house, neighbors would be willing to share it with me.

Is there a difference between these setups, one connecting to an IPS's AP, and the other on neighbor's router?

If I bought extender like this one, and plugged it in, at my house (without using Ethernet cable), would I be able to get the connection at the whole house or does it have to be at their place, connected with Ethernet cable and extending to me?

Where can I get bulk USB drives? I'm looking at around 10 pieces and maybe 128MB in size. I don't want anything huge since these will be for simpler, more disposable things like windows activators and the like. Would 128 be a good size for a batch of flash drives, or should I get something a bit bigger?

fuck all kinds of yes, thanks anon, the board was the one thing I wasn't sure about because I couldn't find it in the manual

does vaapi enabled chromium accelerate netflix streams?

Yeah, it often doesn't say it in the manual. I had to dig through some forums as well.

Netflix has stopped working for me in Waterfox and Firefox. They both give the same error message, linking to https://help.netflix.com/en/node/32660.

I can play through chrome fine, but I don't know where to go from here. Obviously I've tried deleting cookies, history, that sort of thing.
Is it a problem with 54? I would appreciate advice on what to try next.

Nope it's just a black screen where I can move my cursor around and ctrl+alt+delete works to open the login screen.
