I actually got myself an NZXT case a while ago since it had a bay on top for hotswapping hard drives, which seemed useful.
Completely crap build quality, however. Threaded holes were gnarly, the case wasn't rigid for shit, and the connectors for the built-in fans were intermittent. Also the design is pretty shitty, too edgy for me.
I'm now back to using my old Chieftec chassis from like 2004, pic related. 10 kg of solid steel, doesn't flex a millimeter.

Not him but how on earth is the FT05 better than the FT02?

FT02 has far more space, making it much nicer to work with and lets you put in loads of drives.
FT02 is pretty much all metal and very high quality build, FT05 has a lot of plastic.

The only downside of the FT02 I can think of is portability: there isn't any since it's big, very heavy and has nowhere to grab on to.
But on the plus side of that I am fairly confident that if someone breaks into my home he won't steal my PC.
>>
>>61176120
>caselets
>>
>>61179142
FT02 is fucking huge (65 liters, full tower territory) and doesn't even support e-atx which is the main point of buying a full tower sized case.

it has five 5.25" bays which no one in their right mind still uses and they look like shit on top of it.

just like the FT02, the FT05 has a metal body and aluminum front, rear, and bottom panels. the only plastic parts are the top cosmetic grate, and the 3.5" drive and slim optical drive cages.

FT02 was a nice case at the time that it came out when fuckhuge cases and full towers were still the norm and no one gave a fuck about proper space utilization, but it is now outdated and the FT05 is a far better choice for a standard atx build.

This is the ideal PC case. You may not like it, but this is what peak aesthetic looks like.
>>
>>61176422
Yep, ordered one yesterday. Even though its 7 years old, probably the perfect case for quiet aircooling. Going to remove all the drive cages, though, so the third 180 has a clear shot to the top.
>>
>>61179640
Would agree mostly with this, but removing the cages is just drilling out some rivets, and then you have a case with real good airflow for SLI with non-blower cards. They both are very good looking cases, but the FT02 is just more impressive, imposing. I would like the FT05 better in the looks department if they did not have the shiny strip all away around it at the bottom.
>>
>>61179695
That looks like a god damn penguin. Otherwise I like it though. If I were to get that, I'd lay it on its side and not use the feet at all.
>>
>>61179663
I had one of the first V2000s about 12-13 years ago now, awesome looking case, very expensive (like $700 or so back then), only issue was that since it was one of the first aluminum cases (what Lian Li were known for back then), there were lots of rattles and vibrations from HDDs.

God I actually used to own one of these like 7 or so years ago. For the size it was and the year it was fairly powerful but still pretty shit. It developed some really bad overheating issues a few years later, though. Probably just dust somehow but you couldn't get in the fucker to clean it.

I've got a 2012 mini myself with an Ivy Bridge 2.3Ghz quad i7, HD4000 integrated, 4GB RAM, and I've replaced its pokey 5400RPM HD with a 850 EVO.

Sure, it gets floored by my 6700k tower, but it's a badass little TV computer, especially since it has an *internal* PSU (fucking NUCs always have those damned wall warts) and you don't ever hear the fan on the thing. I've paired with a dualshock 4 through bluetooth and it's great for playing less demanding steam games, emulators, etc and since it's not anemic like an rPi, it also works great as a computer for guests to use when they come over… just log it into the guest account and hand them the bluetooth KB+mouse combo.

I really can't recommend it enough. If you can pick up a late 2012 Mac Mini for cheap or free, go for it. They're awesome little machines as long as you replace their spinning rust with something better.

Is there a case that's similar to this but the designers didn't drink paint at the last minute?
The whole case is a heatsink which can cool the components completely passively without fans or anything else.
The problem is that it's an "open" case similar to >>61179695 and >>61180130.
I'm not bothered by meme windows but this is unacceptable.

Normal old school towers look fucking disgusting. PCs should evolve forward already. None of them will ever look good, they are just practical for the old component arrangement method which we should finally re-design already. A plain boring tower looks more like a refridgerator than a PC.

There are none.

I've been looking for something with OEM look like high end HP/Lenovo/Dell workstation and things like that are just not made.

Built computers are bought either by younger people where taste is questionable thing or by poor who couldn't care less about aesthetics so it's not profitable for manufacturer to spend resources on industrial design.

Maybe something from supermicro?

the case exhausts through the top. the side mesh is purely for the PSU. even if you cut that down to make the case smaller you wouldn't benefit because you can't put anything on top as it would impede air flow.

if you want a small case with similar aesthetics and top tier air cooling there's the ftz01 but then you're limited to mitx and SFX psu.

Why isn't the top panel aluminium, too?
>>
>>61179138
what the actual fuck is that shit
>>
>>
>>61190231
Because the top panel goes on last, so it would be near impossible to get any sort of heat pipe setup to attach to it. Also because they sell a kit with an opening in it to install a slot-load ODD drive in the top, and it relies on the top panel having some give to be able to push the eject button.

Silverstone patent on the vertical orientation is dead since around the middle of last year.

Patent doesn't apply to the US since a patent around the 90's predates Silverstone's has exist is also long expired. Which is why you see Phanteks and Jonsbo moving on to the design orientation which was once unique to Silverstone. Their PR guy from [H] made a post somewhere about legal debate of the design.

The only real problem I had with it was that some GPU coolers wouldn't work properly when vertical.

What? those things are easy as fuck to get into... you don't even need a screw driver to take the bottom off, it just twists off. The only possible problem I can see with getting it apart is it may take smallish torx screws but that's it.

you could have bought a gpu for the price of a case that does the exact same job as my $60 case. at the end of the day, its just sheet metal
>>
>>61196957
And at the end of the day, you just don't get it. Do you use a $20 Walmart chair because it does the exact same job as a Herman Meme? Do you use a $5 membrane keyboard because it does the same thing as a $100 mechanical? At the end of the day, it's just a keyboard. It's about getting something that will last, that doesn't have random flex and squeak and rattle all throughout it, and something that has the space for anything you could possibly want to put in it. It will always be overkill for a boring office machine, but if you want something GOOD, there is no better option.

>>61196997
I do get it though. it's not a chair with complex economics, and it's not a keyboard with switches that will be banged more then a $1 whore, it's a metal box, and at the end of the day, there's only so much improvement one metal box can have over another. there's no complex r and d, it's not an engine or a car, you paid hundreds of dollars for an unattractive metal box. they're not even well designed, the itx case they sell is the size of a barn. they say they're made of aluminium, so you know it's plain Jane 6061, not a fancy expensive aircraft alloy. for the price I would accept nothing less than Ti64

Lack of optical drives is never a failure, it's moving on from a dead format. That said, that case actually supports a slim optical drive under the power supply, accessible through that gap in the lower front corner of the case.
