>terabytes of storage
>120 MB/s transfer rate

Why did it never happen?

Because lobbyists don't like good shit.
>>
>>61174907
Because normies fell for the (((cloud))) meme.
>>
Why write data to a disc when you can share it with your favourite jewish companies?
>>
>>61174907
>over $100 for a single disc
>over $10k for the reader
Gee, I wonder why...
>>
>>61174907
disc rot makes burning media pretty worthless

Yeah, but most technology is extremely expensive on initial outset. The first DVD players were over $1k, and hell, when copyright tech came in they made even more expensive ones for a short time.

Could they really not find a cheaper way to produce these things?
>>
An external HDD is basically equivalent, and more versatile. The only advantage of these discs is that they could be read-only, but that's a very unusual requirement - you can use cryptographic means to ensure integrity if really necessary, and if availability is a concern, a disc can be snapped in half and is also not a solution.

With various flash memory technologies becoming cheaper and better ones in development, you could soon have terabytes of storage at 500+ MB/s transfer speeds for about $100.

This.

Nope, hence why it went nowhere.
HVD was stupidly fucking complex for little gain.
God only knows how badly it would be susceptible to degradation as well.

HVD was an ideal, but just doesn't scale well.
External HDDs are just superior.
Hell, just a rack of Blu-rays is better. Almost certainly last longer than HVD would too. Those things are fucking tanks in disc form.
>>
>>61174907
So like a harddrive just more squishy, expensive and not universal?
>>
>>61174907
I wish Blu Ray would have caught on, but people like to pay for things without owning them these days.
>>

>Optical media
Thank god it never happened. Movie hardcopies on USB drives when?
>>
Mdisc 100gb for $20 lasts 100 years.
>>
>>61178454
Never, the future is streaming
>>
>>61179185
Show me one example of one of these lasting 100 years.

I'll wait.
>>
>>61179818
Ok, you'll have to wait a 100 years for proof though :^)

I'll pm you then
