As close to stock Android as possible.

>>61172670
The Nexus 5 power button has a design flaw that, after a few years of use, causes it to be stuck down. When this happens, the phone thinks you are perpetually holding the power button and will be unable to boot (it turns off mid-boot). This can be temporarily fixed in a few ways:

>hitting your phone against the wall like a retard to knock the button free
>rolling your phone along a flat surface like a hacksaw to pop the button free
>flicking the button with your finger until it pops free
>tearing the phone apart, removing the motherboard and using contact cleaner to lubricate the button

I'm tired of having to do this shit every few days just to use my phone, so I'm getting a new one. After this last bout, it won't turn on at all no matter what I try.

There's a Nexus 5X for $110 that I'm really tempted to grab despite that it's plauged with the bootloop woe. The seller hardly even used it, mostly had it laying around collecting dust. >>61173862
I guess they're really running out of ideas. U11 has that silly squeeze function and S8 slapped in a button for an assistant, on a phone that already has another assistant. I mean what else can they really do at this point, every phone runs smooth, the screen resolutions don't need to get better, cameras are good, screens are starting to cover the whole face of the phone. Batteries are the only thing that really need to get improved but that's not happening soon
>>
>>61174190

Can't say, I'm not sure what carbon fiber feels like to the hand. I always imagined it as smooth and slippery as well. Probably depends on the texturing, if it's smooth or bumpy. My kevlar thing has this rubbery feel to it which I like. Prefer it over the metal back on the phone, and the rounded edges feel nicer

>>
>>61174439
How long do you think that could take? I don't really pay attention to phone stuff so I have no frame of reference. I just need a new one within the next few days.

If I buy a moto g5+ today, how much do you think I could resell for in a few months? I take good care of my stuff so it'll almost certainly be like new.
>>
>>61174439
yea they never said that. they said that their team is working on it, but i don't see why people would trust them anymore
>>
>>61174392
Apart from that defect it's not a bad phone at all. It just doesn't have quite all the bells and whistles as some other flagships, and with the price jump there's not an obvious price advantage anymore. Like the G6 for instance, the cameras are arguably nicer, the screen resolution is higher and I think it has some type of water resistance. But then there are things which are down to preference, for instance the OP5 has capacitive buttons while the G6 only has on-screen ones, the fingerprint reader is in the back on the G6 and in the front on the OP, the OP5 also has that button/slider for toggling between silent/do not disturb which is surprisingly convenient. At this stage it's really just down to which phone best does the things you want it to do
>>
>>61174312
The assistant button is something that nobody received well, but beside that, there's the attempt from Samsung to give an alternative to Google's products, which I think is a good thing, if they didn't try to shove them down our throats forcefully.

The only way to upgrade battery life would be by renouncing to performance increases, which at this point is really wasted for most users anyway, in favor of a significant decrease in power consumption.

Other than that, I think camera can improve significantly more. Sooner or later we'll have phones with three cameras: a wide angle, a high magnification telephoto, and a regular camera, all stabilized and with high resolution.
>>
>>61174414
You're missing the point, it doesn't really matter why it was out of stock. What the chink said might have been true, or it might not have been (though I don't really see why they'd lie about it). Only thing that matters is when the phone is coming back in stock. "At the beginning of the next month" is what the chink said weeks ago, which obviously was true if you have a look at Geekbuying's or Honorbuy's listing:

>>
>>61172644
Just find root on online and if there is you just have to follow the steps the forum provides you. It would say that you would need to use Odin (since it's a Samsung device) and just install the twrp file and once that's done boot in to twrp and flash the root zip.

I'm looking for an AT&T phone (unlocked of course) for around $200 max, with:
>no more than 5" screen
>any resolution
>pretty much any performance, though I'd like it to run nougat ideally
>4G bands, 5Ghz wifi, no need for AC
>biggest battery possible given these constraints
>mSD would be a bonus

I'm still pretty happy with my Redmi 3, except for its incomplete band support on both AT&T and T-Mobile. When I got it, I just thought "I don't really need 4G" but it seems there's more missing bands, leading to strange coverage issues. After switching from T-Mobile (US Mobile) to AT&T (Cricket) it's better, but still not great.
So, while I don't strictly need a new phone, perhaps /spg/ can tempt me?

Android fag here.

I've been using a Galaxy S6 since july 2015.

I always wanted to try an iPhone mainly because i like the color.

The thing is that, i know iPhones are specs wise weaker, OS is restrictive and you can't do dumb things like installing a japanese app by just downloading the japanese app instead you have to use a japanese account and shit.

Now, I don't want to wait for the iPhone 8 so ... will the 7 hold up for a year or 2 performance wise?

If what you need is a device with great battery life, stable and supported OS, email, texting and web browsing, then the iPhone is a great choice.

thats great and all but why has nobody told me how is the performance.

Will it be decent phone in 2 years time? apps get heavier and require more ram.

Can a 2 year old iPhone 7 hold up in 2019?

iPhones hold up well for 2 years, without issue.

They should hold up fine in 2 years. Just be aware that for old phones it is not possible to tell if the battery is weak because the OS has gotten heavier with bad battery because the battery has lost it ability to hold charge.

What the fuck. I'm comparing Xperia z1 compact and Samsung galaxy j3(amoled meme).
Difference of black is like night and day. Where Sony has 100% black areas, in Samsung I can still see details. Generally Samsung is more bright but black sucks. When comparing white Sony is cold and Samsung is yellow.

Sorry for long link. Holy shitsnacks. Samsung fuck sony in the ass in that test pic. Green+blue field looks totally different. Sony is bleak there and Samsung is nicely distinguished. But then in "real" photographs Sony gives more saturated red and surprisingly better black, even though it shouldn't. It's like Samsung displays dark more brightly than it should.
It looks like Sony is more about white/black in photos, and that looks better than Samsung which tries to show all the bright colours.
Maybe I've got so weird outcomes because I'm not using exact same photo viewer program on both phones.

How would the Moto g5 compare to my galaxy s4?
In case you don't know the CPU of the s4 is roughly equal to that of the moto g4 and I imagine it may have a better camera than the g4.
The galaxy s4 also has micro sd and removable battery.
I'm looking for more performance, the ability to flash the latest versions of android at my leisure, the ability to use OTG dacs with out having to use USB Audio Player Pro, MicroSD is mandatory, and I am open to other phones besides the g5.
I'm in the US but I only use my phone on wifi so it doesn't even matter bands wise.

The price, performance and battery are all basically ideal, but I'd really rather have a 5" screen and the fingerprint scanner/home button thing on the front.
It doesn't look like that actually exists anyway, the Zuk Z2 was closest but it seems like they've stopped making it so the only places that still seem to be selling it are random sketchy sites, the price is going up and they usually only have the ugly white one anyway. I'm not in a particular hurry though, if something better is going to be coming out somewhat soon I can wait. Anything I should keep an eye on?
Budget is a pretty flexible ~200CAD

Performance wise it's hard to compare, but for sure camera and screen are better on the S8. Build quality is great on both, but they're both easy to damage in case of accidental drops. Feature wise, S8 is better, however if you're already in Apple's walled garden, then you may want to buy an iPhone regardless.

There's four different versions of the phone
Redmi Note 4, with a Mediatek Helio X20 processor

Redmi Note 4, with a Snapdragon 625 processor (only sold in India so disregard this one)
Redmi Note 4X, with a Snapdragon 625 processor
Redmi Note 4 Global, also with a Snapdragon 625 processor

It is recommended to get one of the Snapdragon versions. The only difference between them is the network bands, you'll most likely want to get the 4 Global as it's the only version with band 4 (commonly used in the Americas) and band 20 LTE (used almost everywhere in Europe).

I made a huge mistake buying iPhone and will be switching to Android as soon as my contract is over.
>>
>>61184214
Are you dumb? You're literally looking at a SCREENSHOT of my 6S battery life. You know what, your're not dumb, you're just an android fag shilling for android. You probably don't even own an iPhone.
>>
>>61184214
>contract

Found your mistake.
>>
>>61184226
I do own an iPhone, and it's never had "good" battery life. Even when brand new I never got more than 4 hours screen on time. Apparently it's a "defective" unit yet all of my friends who own iPhones have the same complaints.

Also, Android shills don't exist. Android doesn't need shills to be successful.
>>61184234
What difference does it make?
>>
>>61183333
Unless you find a good deal on the G5, go for Redmi Note 4X. Unlocking a bootloader is piss easy and there are plenty ROMs on XDA. I recommend PAC-ROM, Pure Nexus or Resurrection Remix.
>>
What should i get for around 320$?
>>
How high are the chances that the nokia 7 will be a 5 inch phone instead if one of those fuckhuge 5.5 inch phones?
>>
>>61184256
If it's a defective unit you can get a replacement. Google iphone 6s battery replacement program.
>>
Friendly reminder that the people you'll see most often with high end phones are poor fags who had to finance the thing over two years.
Real gangstas actually own their hardware.
>>
>>61184295
Trust me I've done all of that. I booked an appointment to the "genius" bar thinking I would get a free replacement but they expected me to pay $80 so I told them to fuck right off
>>
>>61184276
The best iPhone you can get for that budget.
>>
>>61184256
>2 hours battery life
Come on even shitty android phones do more than that, that's ridiculous.
>>
>>61184326
There's been times where I leave the house at 100%, and I have my earbuds in listening to music, and after 20 minutes it was already down to 60%.

Meanwhile my S4 would be at 93%.

I still use an S4 daily and it's a very good phone but I wish I had the ability to unlock the bootloader because it has software issues. It wakelocks some times and I have very minimal amount of software installed on it. There is something wrong with whatever chain of software handles the camera and it causes pictures to be incredibly grainy.
I love the device and I got it for $99 new but I'm thinking about replacing it with a chink Snapdragon 820 phone or maybe something like a moto G.

So protip here guys, do not ever buy a phone with a locked bootloader. You want the ability to put the newest versions of android on it yourself and to also be able to fix problems that the OEM has deemed unimportant. It will greatly extend the life of your device.

It will only ship next week, sorry.
From what I've read the battery life is solid.

I just woke up and suddenly the vibration on my OP3T is completely gone. Ive tried every option in settings and nothing brings it back, even when I slide the vibration strength slider the phone won't vibrate at all. Is it worth trying to do a full wipe or is it likely that the motor is just dead? I'm on stock OOS, not rooted.

>they finally fix Touchwizz which was utter shit since forever
>Fix

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHH good one. The only fix they have done is change what it looks like. Still, people are reporting it's lagging.
>>
>>61176867
Why would you buy it now? Next iPhone is coming in 3 months
>>
>parents get Huawei P10 and Galaxy S7, waiting for nanosims so I play around with them
>ridiculous amount of lag, especially when pulling down the notification center and scrolling big websites

I really didn't expect this out of Android in 2017.

>inb4 b-b-b-but muh custom roms

I've been looking into buying either Lenovo P2 or Moto G5+.
I like the P2 better overall but people keep complaining about the camera.
The G5+ has a better camera ( but it sticks out weirdly ) and it's splash-proof, which is better for my job and it's cheaper.

Which one do you recommend?
Does anyone of you know where I can find one of them for the best price? I'm in Germany.

Their A10 Chip is better than a FapDragon 835. In real life tests. A10 is a year old while 835 was released in the Q2 this year.

How good lineageos can we expect the Nokia 6 to get?
>>
>>61185452
Why would you be worried about lineageos when the stock ROM is going to be pretty much stock Android?

I understand. Get the jet black 256GB Plus model. Die rich

Do Nokia even plan to release a true midrange phone?

The Nokia 6 is a little on the weak side but built like a tank, it isn't even out in the UK yet and the rumours of the Nokia 9 are that its going to be an expensive beast. There doesn't seem to be an inbetween unless there's something I'm unaware of.

The build quality is the main thing that has me interested in the 6 since fewer and fewer phones have metal cases now. I don't think I could ever own a phone with a glass back, its fucking stupid and wireless charging is also a stupid feature. The charger is still connected to the mains so you might as well just plug your phone in, it takes 2 seconds and you're affecting the build quality of your phone because you're a lazy fuck

My redmi note 3 has been great since I bought it last year
I get 6 hours of SOT with an AOSP 7.1.2 rom.

My question is, will this thing last?
Do chink phones live longer than like 2 years?
I want to keep this for at least 3 more years.
>>
>>61186023
They both come with nougat
They both have the sd625
They both have 5.2" 1080P screens
Idol 5S have usb c, Moto doesn't
Idol 5s has 3GB RAM at 199.99
G5+ has 2GB RAM at 184.99
Idol 5S has a rear fingerprint sensor and camera has image stabilization, G5+ has front fingerprint sensor and not stabilization
Idol 5s is near stock Android, same as G5+
Only thing G5+ has over Idol 5s is possibly updates
>>
>>61186185
No nice brand name. No warranty (but you probably can buy it in your country for ~30% more and get seller's warranty). Probably worse camera if it's important to you. [Cheap-ish good camera phone is Nokia 6 (camera comparable with apple's flagship, I didn't check other comparisons)]
