If you live far away from the box, you will most likely get shitty speeds due to distance/routing/shitty ISPs.
To remedy this, you can a) download multiple files at the same time or b) download (multiple) files in parts using multiple threads.
Many clients exist for this such as cuteftp or whatever. I personally use lftp which is freely available on Linux and Windows (via cygwin).
There are probably other alternatives, but I'm lazy.

In the DVD-era. (which is what I was specifying here) there's mostly either one or two. So 13 releases for a single show is never necessary. Most encodes use the same R1 subs as the fansubs would often be hardsubbed meaning they wouldn't be able to easily mux them with a better source. So they're just lazy. RUT is a must if you're not on U2 if you want to watch actual good dvd encodes. My point being is that RUT only supplements AB and AB removing RAWs only hurts them. That was all my argument ever was. In the BD era there's really just not any real fansubbers left, just people editing the official subs as your image showed. These are often just joke subs and I wouldn't call them actual different subs.

Transcoding isn't inherently bad, only transcoding from a lossy source is. More distortion and artifacts will appear transcoding FLAC -> V0 -> V2 than FLAC -> V2 directly, and transcoding V0 -> FLAC is bad because it's impossible to reconstruct information that was originally lost and you just end up with a larger file identical in quality to the V0.

Unless you are a recording engineer, you won't notice those sounds, which are also very specific sounds not commonly found in music.
So, unless you are a recording engineer, listening to flac because of its better quality is stupid. Even if you are a recording engineer you would settle for lossy music because the differences are almost inaudible.

Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.
I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange...well don't get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren't stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you'll be glad you did
