Read SMART Data first and backup stuff if you can.

Just plug your HDD in something running Linux, go to disk section, open your SMART data and run a benchmark of the HDD to see if speeds are fine, if no something is wrong.
If there are bad sectors in the SMART info then your HDD is fucked.
