A 38mm intramatic is fine. Has an (elabore) 2892-A2 in it.
>>
>>61162854
Intra-matics look really nice in pictures, but they're 38mm or even fucking 42mm for a dress watch. Personally I would go for the smaller size on leather rather than the bracelet, the thing is it might look a little odd being such an old-school design but scaled up to the current trendy size. The gold plated one actually looks pretty good too, but I would be worried about the plating scratching off.

Buy a Seiko SNE437. You literally can't go wrong with it. It's durable as fuck, solar powered, and you can dress it up or down easily. Literally a grail-tier piece for a very affordable price. God bless Seiko.

I'm a supervisor for UPS. I would like stopwatches; maybe something with multiple hourly alarms. I dislike digital timepieces. I wear Maroon/Khaki in the summer and Maroon/black slacks int he winter. I need it to survive a giant hub filled with metal, concrete, conveyors and fast moving irreg trains loaded with thousands of pounds of irregs.

This is what I need.
>>
>>61163785

>>61163770
It's a bit above your price range but you'll never have to buy another watch. No need to replace batteries or service the movement either since it's solar.

>I would like stopwatches.
Sure!
>I dislike digital timepieces.
Well...
>multiple hourly alarms.

So... if you want a digital watch this is very easy.

But if you want a mechanical watch with these features its actually very expensive. Mechanical watches with alarms (chimes)... are there even low end options for such a thing?
>>
>>61162766

You should qualify that with "new." Vintage ones are patrician-tier.
>>
>>61163830
Quartz chronographs with alarms are pretty easy to find.
>>
>>61163830
Let me rephrase this; I dislike digital when the main time is displayed as such. Other stuff, allright.

Also, is G-shock a meme?
>>
>>61163854

G-shocks are great. And, given what you've explained in >>61163812, it's probably your best bet.

>No need to replace batteries
rechargeable batteries used in solar watches do need replacement

>or service the movement
You would want to service it if you wanted to keep it a lifetime, but like all watches in that or lesser price range you generally would just wear it until it dies than buy a new one rather than servicing it.
>>
>>61163862
That's what I'm currently browsing; their feature seem to be what I'm looking for, plus they all look pretty nice.

Loving the red stripe on the windy knob, it's there so you can make sure it fully screwed in

15-20 years of perfect time keeping just by being exposed to light with 10 months of battery reserve in darkness.

and some people get excited about winding up a spring that will kind of keep time for a few hours!

he said if I will come in and sweep and help out he will help me make a good looking franken watch out of all Rolex parts that only fanatic would notice was not parts correct by era

Look up their meme coaxial movement and the problems, real and potential, related to it.

TL;DR it's dumb, over complication for marketing purposes to try to compete with the shadow of rolex's fart that means you have to stick to servicing schedules strictly because special snowflek movement can't hack it irl.

Theoretical that is. Also they're made in china so unless you want to pay those inflated prices for a chinese watch and give the swatchjew free money for no reason, don't bother with modern omega.

What is that ceramic bezel even for anyway? The top of the bezel is the part that always gets scratched on my watches, so they could have at least made the entire bezel ceramic if durability was the idea. Looks cool though, I like that watch a lot.

Is the lume any good by the way? My Explorer has piss-poor lume but I was expecting that anyway, I think it's the old Luminova rather than Superluminova.

Excuse my feet.

>>61173145
I know it's impossible to quantify anything from just anecdotes on watch forums, but is coaxial really that bad? Literally the whole idea originally was to reduce friction and increase service intervals so it's kind of retarded if it makes reliability worse.

I mean, one of the top results when googling coaxial escapement is "The Power of Co-axial: How Omega Watches Use Technology To Strengthen The Brand" so I guess they don't even pretend it's for anything but being a made up unique selling point.
>>

>I know it's impossible to quantify anything from just anecdotes on watch forums, but is coaxial really that bad? Literally the whole idea originally was to reduce friction and increase service intervals so it's kind of retarded if it makes reliability worse.

Costs more to service than a Submariner, shorter service intervals and harder to find shops to do the work

Can't argue with the price and difficulty of getting it serviced, I guess. Manufacturer suggested service intervals are made up anyway, though. Rolex went from suggesting a 3 year interval to 10 years overnight, and I'm pretty sure they didn't suddenly make their watches 3 times more durable at the same time.

I guess I'm more interested in seeing some gore photos of coaxial movements that grenaded themselves.
>>
>>61171170
I have one of those, can recommend.
>>
>>61173268
>Literally the whole idea originally was to reduce friction and increase service intervals
Dunno how well it actually achieves its aim of reducing friction, but omega's co-axial (or, rather, ETA's as I've read stuff that casts ambiguity over what exactly anyone at swatch's "omega marketing studio "actually contributed to the project) diverges too much from the original Daniels design that it's a pale imitation of what it's supposed to be. That comes with mass marketing something in steel that's supposed to be handmade out of fucking gold. Patek had a go, and even they couldn't get it right.

As for service intervals, I believe that in the latest calibres "get it right" and omega has extended the service interval to 8-10 years or something. I can't remember exactly. Thing is, rolex achieves the same intervals without resorting to dubious renditions of fancy escapements. If rolex, and others for that matter, can achieve comparable accuracy and longevity between services with the tried and test swiss lever, what the hell is the point of a movement that demands instant service before it shits itself?

You can grind a rolex movement into metal sand over a period of 30 years or more if you don't follow any rigid service interval. My driver's worn his seiko 5 for like 25 years with not a problem; when it dies, it'll die for good, but it keeps on ticking.

The fact that the omega is apparently so delicate that it requires regular service without that leeway conventional mech calibres offer, provides no other tangible benefits in regards to accuracy or what have you, and the fact that omega's mostly a chinese made brand of the swatch conglomerate makes them totally unappealing in their current state. Also,
>muh infinite number of "special editions"

Oh, and this fucking cringeworthy scene.

Swatch paid something around $10,000,000 to have them switch Bond to using an Omega. Rolex was asked if they wanted to counter but they refused as they consider it undignified to have to pay to have their watches used in movies as their quality should stand on their own merits.

It wasn't hamfisted because Rolex never paid them to begin with.

Same shit with examples like Tony Soprano's President or Don Draper's Explorer. They're chosen because they're fitting and cool.

Currently looking for a nice ~42mm blue faced diver/dress watch between $1k and 2k

I'm a huge fan of the breitling superocean heritage but am not ready to drop that kind of cash. Maybe Chr Ward?

Any recommendations?

Yeah the crystal was NOS picked up off Yahoo Auctions Japan. Not the first time I've had to do that, but it was certainly easier than sourcing the special faceted 6106 crystal.

What specifically makes the movement better? I would strongly consider this once I get a promotion at my wageslave office job. I've had a moratorium going on watch acquisitions for about the past year, in an effort to save money for other things, but I would like to end it with something genuinely... good
>>

> Also any lume? I have to check time at night.
It has no lume.

> What is servicing like? Frequent and wallet combustingly expensive?

I only bought that model recently from JLB boutique. They said it needs servicing around every 6 years or so but they also included the first service in the price. iirc that was worth ~$650.

>>61174606
that is a good call. Certainly a very attractive watch, i'll look into it

Daini Stronk. Sorry, I haven't been around much lately because these threads have descended into pure fucking cancer.
>>
>>61168753
That tends to be the general pattern. Daini movement designs tend to virtually always be superior to their Suwa equivalents. There's a reason that Daini became the basis for SII, while Suwa makes printers now as Seiko Epson.

Nobody's going to call the police on you for wearing it on your left arm, bucko.

Putting the crown on the left keeps it from digging into your hand too. Same reason some watches have the crown on the right but at 4 o'clock or something, like the skx.

Not gonna lie, I've been kind of lusting after this for a while.

The specs say it's 45mm, but that's the case which is hidden behind the bezel. The bezel itself is 43mm, and that defines the visual size.

Suwa, now Seiko Epson, is still involved in making quartz movements and movement components. I believe Seiko Epson still makes large parts of the GS quartz movements and Spring Drive, while the mechanicals are all SII (and in fact a fair number of Daini employs are STILL there from the 1970s!).

Hi, I'm very newb to /wt/ and am looking for an acceptable quality and non-overpriced quartz watch. I'm completely lost in the abundance of bigger and smaller brands I had never heard of before, yet I don't feel like making a meme choice like SNK809.

Could you guys guide me to some extensive list of sub-200$ (preferably even sub-100$) watches/brands that use miyota or ronda movements (or other decent ones which I'm not yet aware of)?
>>
>>61175121

Thanks, but unfortunately I have a strong aversion to anything german-made or designed unless it's a household appliance, and they're very slightly sub-200. Nonetheless, I admit I appreciate the beauty of this cornucopia of useless numbers there.

regardless of the reason, the "zeppelin", "junkers" etc watches are hardly german, even though it might be printed on the dial. There is nothing german about those watches, they are pretty much just citizens with different cases.

Ok /wt/ I need a recommendation for a pocket watch... No I'm not autistic... I work for a company as a machinist and they have pants on head retarded rules for us, one being we aren't aloud to wear a wrist watch and two is that we can't have our phones put on the floor (as I shitpost from my phone at work). so I have an actual need for a pocket watch. So I'm looking for something in stainless steel with a cover for the dial and budget of ~$200, hopefully new manufacture and mildly rugged I don't want to bust up an antique...

Be patient, use pliers to feed it through the bars. If you can't get it that way, crease the strap and try to put the bar in over it. It gets easier the more times you do it.
