Sold my decent (8320e rx470 8gb]mid range rig a few weeks ago. Wasn't planning on getting another pc soon but Picked up a Opteron 990 with i5 2500 8gb ram 1208th Samsung 840 for 100. Picked up a never used antec 620w 80bronze for 35.

I just came back with a new 1050ti ssd because the 7870le I had I couldn't find. Well came home... Found the 7870le.

I mostly do mid setting 1080P gaming wow, overwatch, various titles. Should I just stick with the 7870le and save the money for my next build or is the 1050ti noticeably better?

So far the 7870 supposedly has more "grunt" but less ram and none of the new tech

What is the maximum temperature an AMD FX-8350 should reach?
A few days ago my pc shut down while playing Hollow Knight, so I ran speccy to see where was the problem, which I thought it was the temperature because it smelled like something burnt: the game ran fine at an average 62 degrees until I guess it reached 70, then the pc shut down again.
Graphic card reached 66 degrees and was very slow to cool down.
So I opened the pc and cleared all the dust I could see, but the problem is still there (I can play for a while until it shuts down, pc ran a game of Playerunknown's just fine).
Is this a heating problem? How can I fix this?

I want to use XML::Twig in Perl to search for an xml_path that has a variable tag name. How can I achieve this? I tried using the string("$tag"), but I think string() is based on what the text of the node is, so that won't work for me. I tried using my $tag in the xpath, but perl bitches up a storm because it doesn't play nicely with the xpath formatting.

for example:
$tag = $element->tag;
my $node = $blah->get_xpath(qq{//$tag[@Seq = "$seq"]});

This doesn't work, because its trying to act like I'm using tag as an array.

$tag = $element->tag;
my $node = $blah->get_xpath(qq{//*[@Seq = "$seq"]});

This works just fine, but obviously isn't what I want since it gives me everything.

I need a variable tag name since I have many different node names that I can't know beforehand.

It should be said I don't know shit about Perl, and very little about XML::Twig.

Any ideas?

So, I have a controller hooked up to my multi-monitor PC. I usually have vidya on one monitor, and whatever else I'd doing on the other
In some games, I can use the mouse independently of the controller- they don't steal focus from each other (Binding of Isaac does this for example).
However, nearly every other game doesn't work like that. Is there any sort of fix for this? Any piece of software that can force the mouse and controller input to be separate?

So my main monitor is 144hz and my other one is 60hz. I've noticed that if I do something like watch a video on my 60hz monitor my 144hz one starts displaying in what I can only assume to be 60hz. It's not a huge deal and I've been fine with it for some time now, I'm just curious if there is any way to have this not happen. Also, it isn't always the same. Lua's random number generation depends on the C runtime library's implementation. If the processor architecture, OS, and libc version stay the same, then yes you should get the same sequence. If you change any one of those, all bets are off.

The .o files are object files, they are compiled machine code that hasn't yet been linked into a library or executable. .h files are header files and define what symbols are exported in the resultant binary and also are used by the compiler toolchain to check syntax, pragrammers and whatnot.

Just remove the lines with "function CalculateArea(){" and "}" on them.

You define a function. Functions have to be called to execute. They don't just run on their own. Did this class you are taking not teach you this? Did they recommend a pragramming basics book?

Try to put a new PSU eventually.
Investing $40 in a EVGA 500B so your parts dont get damaged is not expensive in comparison with what you could lose.
>>
>>61166337
Okay, I'm going to purchase as soon as possible but would compatibility be an issue between PSU and the motherboard? I'm guessing that's why you suggested an EVGA but I wanted to ask just in case.
>>
>>61166371
No, is just that EVGA PSUs are cheap and work really good.
Pretty much any Superflower rebrand will.

Out all things you should never cheap out in your computer it should be the PSU.

No problem, also back to your original problem.

Buy a can of canned air for $4-5 and spray your case insides and heatsink fan with it.
You dont have to worry about breaking anything as long you dont dissasemble anything other than the case.

Just bought a quick, easy Cyberpowerpc build at Best Buy (R5 1400, RX 580) for around $600. Knew there would be issues. PSU is crud and needs replacing.

The question is, do I bother? I could resell the whole rig for roughly the same price if I shove a 1050 in there. Then I get to sell the crappy MSI Armor RX 580 to get something I do want. It's not bad though, even if it's the bottom of the aib barrel.

Powerline adapters rely heavily on the wiring layout.

Are the power sockets connected directly, with a short wire between them?
Or are they on separate groups where you first have to go down 4 floors to the switch panel, across some electronics, and then up 5 floors to the other socket?

So in some situations power adapters will be much better, in others you're better off with WiFi.
But in every single situation the absolute best thing to do is grow some balls and just lay down some Ethernet. - nobody is going to mind a small hole in the ceiling/floor.

How can I check if my ram is fucked? I have shit power source. Computer froze and keeps going into boot loop. Last time this happened it was the ram. I'm pretty sure its the same now.
>>
My motherboard doesn't have PWM fan control, does that mean a PWM fan will just receive 12v and spin at the max RPM in it's range?
>>
>>61168733
Yep. Although you can use a fan controller or a pot from radioshack to slow it.
>>
>>61168729
memtest86
>>
>>61168733
You can use fancontrol from lm-sensors to emulate PWM on the fan power line.
>>
>>61168708
Note that that's just one example.

Every device will have a different useful life period, depending on the design and materials used.
It will also depend on the type of use.
>>
>>61168767
I can boot with the USB? Even if boot loop?
>>
>>61168733
>>61168775
But keep in mind this, from fancontrol's manpage:

>WARNING

>Please be careful when using the fan control features of your mainboard, in addition to the risk of burning your CPU, at higher temperatures there will be a higher wearout of your other hardware components, too. So if you plan to use these components in 50 years,**maybe**you shouldn't use fancontrol at all. Also please keep in mind most fans aren't designed to be powered by a PWMed voltage.

>In practice it doesn't seem to be a major issue, the fans will get slightly warmer, just be sure to have a temperature alarm and/or shutdown call, in case some fan fails, because you probably won't hear it anymore ;)
>>
>>61168783
i like how my 1TB hdd that i bought in the same transaction failed before the ssd did
>>
>>61168733
It will spin at max rpm, yes.

But the voltage is the same (5V IIRC), PWM means the power is switched on and off rapidly to slow the fan down.
This is better than changing the voltage because not all fans work at lower voltages and I think it's also more energy efficient. - something to look out for when buying a fan controller.
>>
>>61168775

The amount of configuration and performance possible with mpv is unlimited. I recommend you use the GNU/Linux version, but Windows binaries are also available. MPV does not have a "gui" like VLC or MPC, and is mostly command-line oriented. Prior command-line experience will be immensely helpful.

The current static library I managed to strip down to 5108 bytes using this script:
#!/bin/sh
gcc -c -Os -s glad.c
strip glad.o
objcopy --remove-section .comment glad.o
objcopy --remove-section .bss glad.o
objcopy --remove-section .data glad.o
objcopy --remove-section .note.GNU-stack glad.o
objcopy --remove-section .eh_frame glad.o
ar rcs glad.a glad.o

I think I haven't broken anything and the source will still work fine for all three OSes.
Now, I want to know if replacing glad_gl with gl would hurt portability. Will it conflict with any preloaded external linkage dynamic symbols from glx, wgl or egl or whatever backend glfw uses? Thanks.

Friend sold me a reference GTX 980 for a great price, and also included an EK water block.

I don't have a water cooling setup, but I want an aftermarket cooling solution because the reference cooler isn't cutting it for me.

How much will it cost me to build a gpu cooling loop vs just buying something like pic related (anything on the page)?

I assume that you meant Ethernet over Powerline adapters. They can be good but it all depends on the quality of your wiring: the fewer circuit boxes between them the better, the newer the wiring the better, and the fewer electrically noisy appliances in use the better.

Why? Is it a bad bulb? Maybe it's on the same breaker as the ac and the power drop causes it to shutdown?

wacom is a name brand and pretty good, i have a few of their tablets. size doesnt really matter when it comes to digital art, since you only end up using a small area on large tablets anyways. plus when you're working with photoshop/krita/whatever you are going to be panning all over the screen while zoomed anyways, its nothing like traditional drawing. and be careful when buying a used tablet, the pens wear out and need to be replaced often, and it might cost you another few bucks on top of your purchase. also people try and get rid of tablets with little dead zones on them from overuse that you wont notice right away.

Trying to get Kali Linux at least running in a Live USB mode on my Toshiba laptop, but running into some serious difficulty.

First let me ask a question that would help me pursue what I think might be a better alternative.

1. ) I already have Kali running in VirtualBox on that laptop in NAT Network mode. Will this work for using Armitage / nmap / other pentesting tools?

2.) If anyone has suggestions, I originally tried to set it up with a Bridged Adaptor (thats how the same VirtualBox machine running off the same Kali ISO worked/is working on my desktop), but the connection is stuck on "Wired Connecting" and I have no internet in the VM. I already went to Network Connections and bridged the host-only ethernet w/ my real network, so I'm not sure why it's not working.

3.) Going back to the Kali Linux USB, anyone familiar with Linux bootable USBs and/or Toshiba have any idea why I either get "Check cable connection! PXE-M0F Exiting Intel PXE ROM." error when trying to boot?

Boot Mode was set to CSM (tried it with just UEFI, boots right into Windows, even when booting from Rufus-burned USB), USB is showing up in the Boot Order, and I used MobaLiveCD to verify that every USB I tried was bootable.

At this point, I've tried using UNetBootin, Rufus, LiLi Live USB Creator, Universal USB Installer, and Win32DiskImager to burn the same Kali Linux ISO. Every attempt, I verified the USB was bootable, but it never got me any further.

Looking forward to getting some feedback, sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading!

1. Should work.
2. Just use NAT, unless you have to acces stuff on the host from the guest or vise versa. Saves you a lot of headaches.
