It has quite a few flaws. The file merging behavior is a bit... let's say confusing and not as convenient, and hiding/showing files is done with an obscure shortcut. It also doesn't rearrange icons if you resize windows. On one side it is more advanced than other file managers, with stuff like column view, spring loaded folders and services, and of course its file naming features but it's also very primitive on the other side.
>>
>>61158651
>keeps showing system wide files by default unless you tell it to show only files from a specific location
If you mean searching files from a specific folder by default, pic related

>hides system folders by default only showing what brainlets like you want to see
If you can't even find out how to show files in the system you probably shouldn't be checking any system files in the first place

>needs a terminal command to show hidden files instead of just having a checkbox on the GUI
Wrong, cmd+shift+.

Up until Windows 8.1 you couldn't really do this without opening a menu, selecting an option, reaching a tab and checking a box somewhere everytime you wanted to do one, either show or hide. Which to me seems like a waste of time.

>can't into merging folders properly in 2017
I'll give you that one

The same goes for so many simple tasks it's ridiculous.
Want to delete a file/folder? try just pressing 'delete' oh wait, it's actually CMD+Delete :^) you can't even assign the delete key in the shortcuts option (macOS just werks™ right?).
>>
>>61159124
Yeah instead of ctrl+h which is 1 whole finger less, it's an obscure shortcut.

Still it's not "needs a terminal command to show hidden files". Please get your facts straight.

That picture is bullshit. Barring every other Windows release(95,me,vista,8,10), the opposite others such as Windows 7 and XP are very reliable even though windows is shiet.

Linux has many random problems which causes crashing (kernel panics, boot failures, and more) however once you get it running smoothly it stays that way.

MacOS is best used with MacBooks because of the feature touch gestures provide, but in honesty that statement kind of gives validity to it being useless since it's basically for low end tasks (Facebook machine or useful ones like programming)
>>
>>61158459
The best filemanager I have used is dolphin.
It does regular file manager things well (mass rename, tabs, previews, and a ton of features I would never use.
But one thing it has I haven't seen in any other file manager is having the built in terminal.
It works so well, if you just clicks through folders, it follows you, and always having a terminal makes a lot of sense in almost any scenario where you are working with files.

bitch please

Changing the delete shortcut isn't an option in Finder's preferences because macOS lets you change key shortcuts for menu items on a system-wide basis, even third party apps. You can change shortcuts for Firefox or Photoshop or anything that uses the native menubar like this, and it'd be moronic to duplicate the functionality in the Finder itself.

for some menus, you have to hold command and delete

Lots of little design flaws. There's no flow or sense of grouping and just feels… haphazard. A lot like if a bunch of programmers with the design capabilities of your average spoon tried their hand at design.

But he is right, that flat meme in kde needs to die a horrible death. The only saving grace it has is that kvantum with included arc theme exists. They never found a middle ground, in the past it was glossy gradients and now it is just one fucking color without even a single separator or visual cue. You can't even call it material or whatever that thing from google is called.

>>61170570
Your typical Windows user is too afraid/indifferent of new concepts like that

>>61170634
In software, there's no need to compromise either. Inadequacies on either side is a direct result of inadequacies in the developers of the software themselves or in the processes used to develop said software.

If you window manager can juggle loose windows well the usefulness of panes is somewhat diminished. Panes are most useful to folks who maximize every window or have window managers that aren't so friendly to odd sized floating windows.

Already been said, Dolphin is best.
I'm back on Windows nowadays though. Explorer is fine, it doesn't annoy me.

Can't say the same for Finder, which is just awful. I don't understand why Apple, with all of their resources, still haven't fixed that broken mess. Is the file manager not the most important bit of software in an OS that a user interacts with on a day-to-day basis?
They should just do a complete re-write from scratch. But we already know where Apple's priorities are.

huge kek at the fact that linuxfags constantly espouse values like openness, standards, and interoperability but something as baseline and essential as open/save panels are part of DE fiefdoms instead of just being a tiny functionally focused *nix-style program that can be swapped out like anything else.

Seriously, why do GTK and KDE need their own open panels? Shouldn't that just be part of XDG as a separately configurable user-selectable component? Why can't I boot up a debian based distro and just do
sudo aptitude install awesome-open-panel
instead of being saddled without whatever shitty choices the GNOME or KDE guys have made?
