it doesn't have userscript support atm. There is a pull request but the maintainer doesn't want to accept it until he has finished a couple of other major codebase-wide changes which have been ongoing for a year or so now. You can grab the greasemonkey branch into your local install though. And then maybe adapt the ffxox addon to a proper greasemonkey script.
>>

Possibly. Who the fuck even uses Flash these days? Ubuntu needs to get their shit together.

Look for any running services that you don't need running, stop them running. Change cpu governer. Look at perepherals you are not using, try put them in powersave mode. I think powertop could help with this but I haven't tried it in a few years.
>>
>>61151631
I'd be happy to accept it if it actually was finished, but the author abandoned it. If someone picks it up, updates it, and makes it work with QtWebEngine, I'd be happy to merge it. I just won't be the one to do this work, as I have other priorities.

Is there a way to set up dual boot with windows without installing windows first?

I just found out you can get Windows 10 for free but I've already had Linux installed and configured for a while now and I don't want to give it up.
>>
>>61151679
> the author abandoned it
Errr, no they didn't. The are actively developing the project. Are you referring to qtwebkit which is a completely different thing and wasn't being developed until recently. As a result, qutebrowser isn't supporting the old branch anymore.
>>
>>61151810
Yeah, just install it second... If it is installed to the same harddrive at linux but on a seperate partition you will need to boot into a live disk so you can chroot into your linux install and re-install grub, which should pick up the linux install and add that to the grub menu. If windows is on a different drive just point the bios to the linux drive.

For security reasons you fucko
Just run "usermod -aG user sudo" as root and reboot.
Or open /etc/sudoers and go to the line that says root ALL=(ALL:ALL), copy it and paste below and just replace "root" with your username, save and you will get root access.

>>
>>61152030
>>61152035
Okay let me clarify, the machine will not let me log in as root because the only user account I can log into after booting is not on the list of sudoers.

Su does not work

Sudo su does not work

Sudo -i does not work
>>
>>61152104

Are you telling me "su -" command doesn't exist?
>>

>>
>>61152118
>the machine will not let me log in as root because the only user account I can log into after booting is not on the list of sudoers.
You are confusing me. Can you login as root at login? It shouldn't tell you anything about the sudoers because sudo isn't installed by default.
>>
>>61152118
Aren't you supposed to specify root password during installation?...
>>
>>61152158
Yeah, and you are also prompted to create a username and password of one other user (which doesn't have sudo).
Probably the guy fucked something up during that setup.
>>
>>61152151
The only account it lets me log into after booting is the user account I made when I installed it an hour or so ago.

When I open the terminal and type sudo -i, it asks for a password, when I type the password (that users password is exactly the same as the root password), it tells me that my username is not on the list of sudoers.

Same for sudo su

Same for any action I do with sudo

Su tells me authentication failed
>>
>>61152177
Read those links above about how to get a bash shell from grub you idiot. Logging in isn't required, let alone sudo.
>>
>>61152177
>it tells me that my username is not on the list of sudoers
You should login as root and edit /etc/sudoers like this.
Of course change "anon" to your username

>>61152177
>Su tells me authentication failed
That means you entered the wrong password. Are you sure you set the exact same password on root and user?
>>
>>61151456
Have you tried to see what happens with Arch or any other distribution?
>>
>>61152199
>>61152204
Password was exactly the same

I went ahead and reinstalled debian and just left the root password field blank this time. Sudo works now. Just gonna make sure the username is a sudoer and then set a new root password.
>>
>>61152234

well I have an updated branch which took all of fifteen minutes to port and add some more features to. Found a mint condition HP Compaq 6715s at work and brought it home since the boss doesn't give a fuck about laptops that look like they're from the stone age. Pic related. I think this is definitely one of the best looking laptops right after some thinkpads imo. Threw in 4GB of ram inside, a wifi chip, surprisingly had a fitting HDD for it. Has all covers, all screws, this thing was just left here back in the day and nobody cared about it.
I'm super into old technology and reviving some of it makes my day. The HDD I threw in had windows 10 on it, now before you stop reading, that's why I'm writing here. Should I attempt to install a lightweight linux distro on here? Shilldows10 seems to be working decently well, youtube playback works relatively fine, and I know on linux it can be either miles better, or just complete dogtrash. (Something to do with the flashplugin or whatever it may be, this is from past experiences.)
I could just use this thing as a doorstop and throw in the hardware in a newer laptop, but since all I need it for is media streaming, should I bother?

".." represents the parent directory, so it would be weird for anyone to use that symbol with some other special meaning.

A glance at the manpage shows that the only mandatory argument is a path, so ".." would fit.

alright wizards, I have 2 small/stupid questions to ask here:
1) is it possible to script a directory the way that every time you put a file inside it renames it to md5 and removes if the duplicate exists? i'd rather see a general answer than a solution for this particular case
>inb4 foreach file in dir do stuff and sleep n miliseconds
2) can i install gnu+loonix in VM, rice it and somehow "transfer" it to my pcs when I am satisfied with how it looks and behaves? My brain hurts when I reinstall windows and set things up manually over and over again.
I'm talking about using the same distro.

>abloo bloo muh fefeees
Just don't use grsecurity senpai. If a group of people purposefuly makes their product hard to use, hard to maintain and hard to distribute it means they care less about the quality and more about that sweet dosh.

There's nothing in the GNU General Public License v2 (the license of the Linux kernel, which grsecurity is a derivative work of) that suggests you are obliged to share the source code with the entire planet.
You are obliged to share the source code and changed you made to the source code when you are distributing the GPL licensed software and to the person you are distributing said GPL licensed software.
The end user is not forced to share the source code with anyone not even if they make any changes to it unless they start distributing the software.

End users are FREE (freedom 2) to share the source code but they're not obliged to.

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.en.html#GPLRequireSourcePostedPublic

Before making an uneducated opinion, at least make sure to cover the fucking basics will you?
>>
>>61157406
>mfw Windows is an open source operating system
Windows devs have access to source code and they don't need to distribute it, so I guess that means that it's open source too.

>I'm a complete fucking retard that cannot grasp the concept of a context and instead picks at a single section irrelevant with the rest
Sure thing friend.

You half-assed argument fails because Microsoft doesn't distribute the source code to the end user ie. every paying customer not even touching the EULA.

In the eyes of faggots from grsecurity you're not the user therefore they have no obligations whatsoever to provide you with the source code to their derivative work of the linux kernel as per license.
>>

1) There's this inotify thing that programs can use to be notified about changes to a file or directory. You can probably hook your renaming script into that. Maybe inotify-tools is a good place to start.

2) Just copy your configuration files. They all live in your home directory and almost always are hidden files and directories (i.e. their name starts with "."). Look up which files pertain to the programs whose configuration you care about, or just copy fucking everything.

Serious question.
I'm using Arch Linux with systemd, thinking to replace systemd with something non monolithic (openRC?).
I use systemd to start/stop services (tor, i.e.), what's equivalent of systemctl start tor.service in openRC (i.e.)?
Would my system became less stable?
Could I encounter problems with some software?
Can I fully replace systemd without any loss in stability?
Would you recommend it?

I'll also add that tiling window managers, being aimed at nerds rather than the average user are usually easier to configure and extend, although I'm sure anybody wanting to prove me wrong could easily cherry-pick a counter-argument.

Linux has no mitigations, which are an essential feature of any modern kernel required to contain security breaches. grsecurity is the only up to date implementation out there, but authors have made it proprietary, closed source for a while now. There's nothing we can do about it though because Linux is still licensed under the outdated GPLv2, and they've done nothing that breaches that license.

Achually, it's not clear cut.
There is a _very_ compelling argument that they are infact inviolation of GPL.
GPL allows to sell software, but what GRsec are doing, is "blackmailing" people not to release sources, if they do they drop access.
Some GRsec patches are not available publicly anymore, only to clients. Clients get sources ofc, via GPL. But the problem lies in "coercion" no to respect GPL and punishing clients not to release those patches.

Now this gets more complex if GRsec is a derivative of the kernel.. well really it gets more money behind a potential lawsuite.

When I type in

The terminal starts spitting errors at me that seem to involve CUDA, then my entire system locks up and nothing is reponsive. Keyboard, mouse, even the power button on my PC case doesn't do anything. I had to physically pull the plug out of the wall to restart.

Just check versions, look at the project sources to see if they need certain version.

Yeah, I was an edgy anti-commie too when I was a teenager. My daddy had his own business and paid for all my shit, so I unironically believed only the lazy are poor.

But then I grew up and started having to fend for myself and working and then realized the world isn't so rose.

One day you'll realize all you're truly relying on in this society is luck, all of us are one really bad month away from homelessness, you've just been insulated enough to never have to confront that reality and develop the compassion and empathy that come from realizing how fragile your own position is.

They're mostly eromango and mango in general. It's weird, I can view the archive no problem with mcomix, but it hangs while scanning. How would I verify its local data?
