My ikbc C87 arrived yesterday.
Here's a pic, though it doesn't do it justice. Looks much better in person, kinda like the stock pics.
The down-key had a plastic seam at the bottom which I filed off. You can still see some of it in the picture if you look closely.
Other than that I see no issues, I like it.
Got it in just 2.5 weeks from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/IKBC-C87-TKL-mechanical-keyboard-tenkeyless-C-87-PBT-keycap-cherry-mx-switch-brown-blue-87/32580388291.html

stock pic here. It actually does look like this in real life if you use strong lighting.
Only difference is that the keycaps have a more matte/grainy texture in real life, which is something I like.

Dude nice keeb collection. I think most people's end game is the HHKB. You should invest in Topre MX sliders for some sweet key caps or you can buy some sweet artisans for topre. You should mod your keeb with 55g domes and lube your stems, that makes these keebs super smooth to type on. Where did you get that wood keeb wrist rest?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0734919BR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was sold after people reported the reaction was noticably faster.

This is the perfect keyboard for me, except that I wanted a compact one, but you can't have everything.

Horrible pick for a keyboard. If you wanted a compact keyboard with Gateron switches, PBT keycaps, and a steel plate, you should've got this for the same price:

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Tada68-Mechanical-keyboard-gateron-swtich-65-layout-Dye-sub-keycaps-cherry-profils-enjoypbt-keycap-cherry-profile/2230037_32807055607.html

Unironically tada68, unless you really want that dedicated F-keys row or the RGB

However I added a couple layers and I actually find myself using even the number row less and less. YMMV but I may actually end up falling for a 40% meme soon.

What do you mean by faster? Less than 1.8mm travel?

I wanted linear switches, and these boasted both linear Red switches with short travel, and like I said, it may sounds like a meme, but apparently the infared sensor in the switch makes a noticable decrease in latency. (they claim 0.2ms)

Logitech G Pro.

If you don't like the switches, Corsair K65
>>
>>61140763

But that one doesn't have RGB or infared switches, which apparently make a slight reduction in latency. Apparently Bloody's "fastest switch in the world claim" isn't just marketing bs.
>>
>>61140959
More legit than jamesdonkey keyboard.
>>
>>61140959
U sure its like 140€ here. I went with the non backlit version for 80€ since I didn't care for the meme. It's very solid and would recommend it, but you're probably looking for it at the wrong place
>>
>>61141000

Replying to myself.

I JUST ordered the bloody one, should I cancel my amazon order and get the corsair?

https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Compact-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B00DOWCQ0I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1498757511&sr=1-1&keywords=Corsair+K65

Is there any $60 or $80 keyboard that is compact, cherry MX red and RGB?

Are the 'no-name' LK infared swithes really bad? Just because they are not popular doesn't mean they aren't quality.
>>
>>61140763

Also can't I buy quality double shot keycaps and put them on?

>>
>>61140975
>>61141000
Kailh makes the fastest switch with a 1.1mm actuation point while cherry speeds are 1.2 and both have 1ms of latency depending on the keyboard firmware. Heck even chink boards like the noppoo choc mini have 1ms of latency with the cherry switch version.
>>
>>61140975
what's the point of fast latency if its gonna be bottle necked by the 1000hz poling rate of USB
>>
>>61141160
Who new brexit could be such a bitch. All your mechanical keyboards are overpriced, even cooler master keyboards are $50-60 over priced.

p l a c e b o
>>
>>61141164
noppoo choc mini lets you adjust debounce time too so you can set it to just above the chattering threshold
>>
>>61141164

Well then that raises a good question: Which is faster:

A 1.8mm travel with 0.2ms latency
or
A 1.1mm travel with 1ms latency
>>
>>61141453
Won't 0.2ms get screwed by chatter? Also >>61141199 - wouldn't you need PS/2 to be able to take advantage of that?
>>
>>61141318
>>61141199
>>61141164

Ok, here is what I will do.

Apparently my Bloody keyboard has already shipped, so I'll have to return it if I don't want it.

But that gives me an idea. I will also order a Cherry MX RED or Kailh RED switch compact keyboard and see how it compares.

Anyone have recommendations on a good Cherry MX RED or Kailh RED compact RGB
keyboard?

Thanks.
>>

switch testers aren't actually very helpful, it's a feeling to go with what you already know they're like, but it's not the same feeling as typing on a full board

finding out you prefer greens to blues is something that it takes typing on a full board for, you might not realize you're gonna bottom out a lot on blues if you're just carefully pressing a single switch instead of typing normally with every finger

you keep your elbows planted at desk level on the arm rests of your ergonomic task chair, and you keep your keyboard flat on the table with a 7 degree incline built into the keyboard, and then with your elbows at desk height, your keyboard raised from the desk, and with your wrists and thumbs neutrally positioned you will find that the cherry/oem profile is garbage and they only angled it that way to fit in with the rest of the bottom row from an aesthetics point of view. see pic related for how a less shitty spacebar would look like.

James Donkey's decent. The keys feel like it's made out of recycled ink cartridges, but the switches themselves are really nice. I really enjoyed typing on them, whereas I felt a resounding "meh" when I decided to take out my RK-9000 with Cherry MX Browns.

The feet are located there, but honestly I don't type with the feet anymore since it causes carpal tunnel. Your hand should be hovering above the keyboard, not at an angle and bent. That is how you get carpal tunnel.

Beginners usually start with Browns. It was my first switch until I actually got the dosh to spend on more keyboards.

Gateron Browns are actually better than Cherry due to their smoother action and slightly more pronounced bump. Gateron Blues, on the other hand, feel worse than Cherry.

Again I see Gateron blues being bashed with no proper arguments.
In all my time lurking here, I've seen two objective differences mentioned:
>extra 5g on the gats
>higher clicking pitch on the gats
First point should be personal preference. Second point makes them sound louder, but if you're already typing on blues it shouldn't be the deciding factor.

So what actually makes gat blues worse than cherry?

I've been using Cherry Blacks for a couple years and just got a board with Cherry Clears and I'm not so thrilled with them. They honestly don't feel much different than browns. Why does everyone praise them as the best tactile switch?

Like cherry mx grey?

I've been toying for a while with the idea of buying a masterrace modular board and a sack of grey switches from mechanicalkeyboards for this exact thing.

Reason being I owned a ducky with greens and really enjoyed the high force requirement, but hated the sound. The description says they're not ideal for gaming but I addapted to browns relatively easily on my leopold despite the release point being above the actuation point.

I've been considering "styling" my Kingston HyperX Alloy keyboard.

It's got black double-shot keycaps with a red backlight.

I'm not sure what kind of keycap colors would go with a red backlight.

If anyone has a red backlit keyboard with custom keycaps or keycaps that's not black then please post some pictures of your keyboard(s).

On a more general note, I'm pretty happy with this keyboard so far.

You probably did alright there, the reviews I've seen of Bloody's laser keyboards have so far been very positive.

They only come in linear (red-like) and clicky (blue-like) variants so it's no option for me (I like the tactile bump but I don't need to hear it so I prefer brown or brown-like). If you like one of those then it's probably a nice buy. My only worry with these is that there's a laser emitter on every key and I'm not convinced these have very long-lived - and it only takes one failing to ruin the keyboard.
>>
>>61149703
It's just that specific board that is on sale. The only reason I'm doing it is because of $28 full size mech. I figured if I bought the blue keycaps then I could just leave that iso enter key on because it's black.
Maybe there are even switches beneath that will let me use it as either ansi or iso.

You cannot touch $28 free shipping for a full size minimally branded non-gaymur keyboard. Even the memeforce-tier boards are $40 and they look way worse.

mx stems are a meme unless you like wobbly keys because of all the free play, you might be able to mod mx dsa keys to fit the topre slider but it's hit and miss

if not type-s, silencing mod is worth it (but some keys especially the left shift won't silence as well because there's no stabiliser)

hasu's controller is a safe bet

>>61152630

buckling spring is nice to type on but don't underestimate just how loud they are, and I'm not talking about "/g/, my coworkers dislike my very quiet mx browns, what do"

as far as typing feel, topre > buckling springs > alps > cherry, buckling springs may rate higher if you like really firm switches (or have a better buckling spring like model f's rather than model m's)

as far as quietest goes, something like

silenced topre > topre > silenced alps (matias quiet) > linear cherry with o-rings/landing pads > tactile cherry o-rings > linear cherry > tactile cherry > clicky cherry

The LED are only yellow, which in practice is more orange-y than yellow.

>>
>>61144956
QC. Gateron Blues are notorious for being inconsistent. Maybe they fixed the issue, but there was a period where people bashed gateron for it. Also that 55g is a noticable difference from 50g. It is very close to blacks which are 60g at that point.
>>

68 keys are hard to find keycaps for. Especially for the r1 keys on the right and the little shift key. Personally I would go the leopold.

Thanks. I know the leopold requires an extra shift key due to both being the same size, but I didn't know the 68 were tough. Leopold it is

Leopold is harder, more keyboards use a 1.75u right shift than a second 2.25u shift so there's a lot more keycap sets that include it. Plus Leopold uses a 1u Windows key too, so you need a set with 1u bottom row mods anyway.

Who actually praises gateron blues? Their linear(reds, blacks) and tactile(browns) are amazing, but gaterons haven't nailed down the clicky style switches yet for some reason. Their greens have the same problem.

I currently have aa james donkey, noppoo choc mini, and a cheap chink keyboard that had swappable switches so I switched them with gaterons. The gaterons browns are now my favorite and have overtaken my love of cherry mx blues.

At least you can use any 1u key to fill in the gaps with only a little difference in profile at worst. Almost no budget enthusiast keysets include a second 2.25u shift because there's only 3 keyboards in existence that use it. Look at Maxkeys and EnjoyPBT, probably the two biggest names in that market.

Both have only one 2.25u shift, but do have a 1.75u. The only exception is Maxkey Ninja on KBDFans, where you can get a second 2.25u shift for $5 extra, but why would you do that when you're already getting a keyset that can nicely cover a 65%?
>>

it's MUCH easier to get a 1.75u shift than an extra 2.25u shift (unless you want to buy two of the same keycap set), and the leopold still has a 1u bottom row key so the leopold isn't easier in that regard anyway. most recent high end sets come with 1.75u shift and 1u bottom row keys and you can get them separately like enjoypbt RGBK/CMYK

How do you attach switches to a PCB in pic related? Do you just like drop them in? Do they have to be soldered? Do you have to run wires?
I've seen switches that come with little tubes that go into those holes so that you can swap the switches around, is that the easiest way to do it?
Looking at aliexpress it seems that the GH60 PCB is not only cheap but very expandable because you can buy different cases(aluminum, wood, steel, plastic) down the road, wide keycap compatability(my keyboard has a fucking 5.5u spacebar kill me), removable cable, you can have different switches for the modifiers than the keys, etc, etc. Seems like the perfect place to start.
>>
>>61155708

Your put the switches in the corresponding steel plate and you present the PCB.

By the way, even something like TypeMatrix is good, as the key islands are placed far enough apart (with the utility keys in the middle) that your wrists end up pretty straight. Of course it's a rubberdome so in reality it's shit for typing.

And if you wanna go absolute full meme there are also the curved keyboards, like the kinesis advantage (which costs a small fortune) and the Dactyl (which you have to 3D print and handwire yourself). From what I've seen they're actually pretty good, shame they're so hard to acquire. Building a Dactyl is more or less my eventual goal.

I think I remember having something of the sort happen, but I'm not sure. I did have issues when gta 5 was open in the background, but other than that it has been working pretty fine.

Try reflashing the firmware, from what I remember, reflashing the firmware fixed those issues that I remember possibly having.

is that just going on the the chinese flash app thing and redoing the layer stuff?
or is the firmware something else?

Buckling Springs are unironically the best keyboard. Hands down. They are just that damn comfy.
>>
>>61157812
i got the unicomp ultra classic
its nice to type but the fact that i cant change the caps lock and control and stuff like that made me shelve it
its so nice to type on though
>>
>>61157967
I heard that the recent unicomps allow to change the keycaps.
>>61157812
It's a shame that the only useable version is a overpriced meme. I really want NKRO with buckling springs.
>>
>>61158016
the functions themselves not the keycaps
the first unicomp i got from massdrop had 2 layered keys so you could take the top off and switch them around
the keyboard was all broken and the second one i got didnt have that anymore so you are right its probably a new thing
>>
>>61153201
I didn't bother with the software since I'm afraid of Chinese botnets.
>>
>>61155912
Man I want an ergodox so much, but I don't feel like dropping so much right now. Are there any decently priced split mechanical? I'm so sick of my hands being awkward angled in to type

With any luck the Chinese will make Model F clones due to some guy pouring his own money into making the equipment.

Ignore the Redditor, Mod-Ms are the best switch I've used. They're noticeably more tactile, but a bit scratchier. They have more key wobble than Zealios, if you're bothered by that (not really noticeable with Cherry profile). A lot of people say they feel like 45g Topre.

I used pic related on my switches and now their scratchiness is gone. You should at least get a switch tester to see if you like them.

Model Ms are some of the best keyboards out there. Since you're in the UK replacement keycaps will be pricier then the US.

I built a $1,400 USD rig and only spent $10 USD on the keyboard and mouse combo (devastator ii cherry).

Will I come to regret this? It's pretty good so far. I like the LED.

More like $35 + $55. $90 vs $10 my ass.

Subjective. It all came down to personal preference.

? It actually is though and there is a clear definition what browns should be. Tactile and smooth. Gaterons fill both areas and are 50% more tactile then cherry mx browns and smoorther.

so i just got the ducky one cherry mx browns. i'm typing this out and desu it doesn't even feel that great? i switched from my 12 dollar logitech k120. did i get memed by /g/? or will it take some time to learn to love this thing? it definitely has a lower activation force so i could see that reducing strain when i type for extended periods of time.

Why are cherry blue so fucking good?
They have just the perfect amount of spring, and push back at you just right.
I've tried a ton of other switches recently, and none of them can compare.
Blue or bust.
