This thread is for the discussion of the possible replacement/mirror of the late Nyaa.se (which also hosted Sukebei);

>latest update: nyaa sent an email and confirmed it's gone for good. and yes, it was due to the EU ruling. and no, db is almost surely wiped.

Work in progress with 1 month old db for nyaa and 8-15 for sukebei

But someone can upload CP directly to the nodes. Sure, they can self-moderate, but who will bother? It's better to run a regular tracker and make the database backups public.

It only caches static HTML, so it wouldn't support any sort of query. Searching wouldn't work at all.

So this isn't a permanent solution, but a neat way to browse the archive. If you have IPFS, you can access this page through the browser at:
/ipfs/Qmc5K4pAxcTBWWkrMyz8mSdiMVqhGx4MwG8A65k8tiis63/

The optimal choice would be to use a local gateway, but you could also connect through gateway.ipfs.io if you wanted.

It actually has to load the entire sqlite file before you can use it, so people with slow connections will have trouble using it at first. If you use it through a local gateway then you only need to download the sqlite database once, and then you can just search that database.
However, I didn't make the SQL query very smart. It basically just searches for any title that has the words you typed

In either case, this setup is resistant to being taken down, because so long as at least one person pins the hash, anyone can use the archive.

Making use of IPNS, or IPFS's pubsub features could serve to keep a more up-to-date database, so maybe I'll look into that.
>>
>>60212724
> People have been backing up sadpanda shit ever since that wani shit
I feel this can't be trusted. Nyaa also took things down (just a few times) and at least sukenyaa is definitely more gone now than we'd have expected (/hoped), no?

> I don't think there's a complete active mirror, but anything you might want you should download anyway.
I do have some stuff from sadpanda stored and if it went down I'd probably pitch in an artist torrent or something like that - but that's not "the" problem.

I mean, you and other anons are here, so I figure having ... whatever .. downloaded didn't *completely* work for you with Nyaa, right?

A real crawl / mirror would be much better.

Extremely simple.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kademlia#Routing_tables
>generate a very large random number (256 bits)
>call it a node ID
>send a message to some server with your node ID
>it will give you a list of the nodes it knows that have similar IDs to yours
>ask them for nodes that have similar IDs to yours
>repeat
>the more similar their ID is to your ID, the "closer" you are"
>if you want to store your IP, you get the info hash and add some zeroes
>then give it to the nodes with the most similar IDs to it
>and tell them "IP X is seeding hash Y"
You now know where to put something if you want to and where to get it if you need to.

By the way, I'm exhibit of obstacle one.

I might theoretically be competent enough to do it in some weeks of experimentation & hacking around (even in a form that can be simply run locally - e.g. with scala's play framework that just needs "sbt run" and boom!).

But I'm not already working on it 'cause here it's at least moderately risky to stick your head out with a torrent site project, and hosters may not take it either, and I'm a lazy faggot like most of us here. Great, eh.

It's not a public tracker because there's no tracker that keeps track of seeders. It's an index of magnet links that currently uses DHT and I think other public general trackers to connect downloaders.

So basically I'm saying they use trackers but the website itself isn't one. Nyaa was both an index and hosted its own tracker.

Yup.

That said, some of these will be tricky to grab.

The tags from various *boorus including gelbooru have generally been scraped by Hydrus' community - often not too far back, but not everything is perfectly up to date. However, quite a few more will have made their way into the PTR.

And hydrus itself could be used to download the essence of the *boorus (images including tags). But the tricky thing is that many of them have rate limits and quotas...

Perhaps someone has an idea how we could get this done.

Does the ptr contain image hash + tags? If so then the only important thing missing for a full gel clone would be the actual image. That could easily be solved if there was a way to plug your hydrus into a tracker seeding each hash with the image content.

> Does the ptr contain image hash + tags?
Yes.

The tags are what users flagged for inclusion in the PTR and uploaded to it & they may originate from the time when hydrus pulled an image off a *booru, pixiv or the other sites it supports, or have been added by an user.

They're NOT perfectly curated or 1:1 with any of these, but it's definitely a extensive tag repository.

The 1:1 tag dumps like they were created off gelbooru directly are ADDITIONAL files Hydrus can use locally to find tags - they're again hash -> tags mappings

> That could easily be solved if there was a way to plug your hydrus into a tracker seeding each hash with the image content.
It's close to that already:
https://hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/help/ipfs.html
https://hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/help/local_booru.html

I'm wondering if it will be a good idea to make this fully work though - feels like Hydrus will be a big fat target if that happens.

Feels like it's much "safer" if the files aren't shared on that channel.

Does hydrus provide the ability to download tags along with an image when you try to download images from gel? Would be quite nice if it did as it would help keep the PTR updated.
If not where can one find 1:1 tag dumps?

There was also a gel archive on nyaa as far as I remember, does the PTR include tags from that?

Yes. I think it's also currently working, but not 100% if it pulls everything worthwhile in terms of metadata.
> Does hydrus provide the ability to download tags along with an image when you try to download images from gel?
Yep, it does - as well as for the other sources. Pixiv etc.

What exactly can be pulled is specific to the service, the dev of hydrus obviously wrote a parser for each.

It was mentioned by him that going forward this will probably be come a script/plugin type system eventually so the community can maintain some (new?) parsers better.

>There was also a gel archive on nyaa as far as I remember
Hm. Dunno.

> does the PTR include tags from that?
It'll have a partial set I think, BUT the actual gel tag dump (separate file) that you can hook into Hydrus should have it all (as per the time when the dump was created, obviously - it has no direct updating mechanism).

PS: The other problem is that they mostly will not have the motivation to re-deliver updates regularly.

I at least think it's more realistic to bother the nyaa-reimplementers and others that might be willing to open up the data so pulls can be organized. The "old" rest might have to be saved SOMEHOW by crawls / scrapes or whatever, or just used until it's dead.

Just my guess, though - maybe you have a different idea how this might be done.

Fuck me, you really got trolled well.
