There's no other android phone with a hardware keyboard in the US at least, and the one on the Priv sucks cock. It should have been like the G1 or the original Droid instead. Only manlets and women will enjoy typing on the Priv.

It's a lame, overheating shit battery piece of crap.

Planning on replacing my 3 year old nexus 4. With a budget between 200 and 300 bucks, my current favorites are the moto g3 and the galaxy A5. Besides having an sd card slot there are no big requirements

Besides the two, any other candidates that might be interesting? Any recommendations?
>>
>>51618086
The only reason I'd want a tablet is for travelling, watching netflix in bed, browsing the internet on the couch, or looking up/displaying recipes while in the kitchen

Laptops are for productivity or mobile gaming

Tablets are for consumption

Phones are for carrying with you everywhere

>sucks cock
I'm 6'1, have pretty big hands and typing on it is pretty fucking good. It's also insanely useful for shortcuts for apps and shit like locking or unlocking the screen. And once you use a trackpad you never want to go back. Most apps support the API that it uses and it's heavenly browsing shit with it. The gestures are nice too I guess.

It only gets warm when I update shit tons of apps at once and never has gotten hot. And the battery isn't shit at all, I get 4h30 SoT usually. I assume it'll only get better once marshmallow hits.
>>
>>51618081
>should've been like G1 or OG Droid

No argument there, but the fact is that there's no other phone with as high a Android revision on stock other than the priv.

Doesn't mean it deserves a place in OP, not unless other OEMs follow the H-Keyboard meme.
>>
>>51618138
Your experiences are quite opposite to what everyone else is saying around the web

>>
>>51618111
While A5 is definitely better looking, the moto G is way better phone overall. Don't fall for Samsung.
>>
>>51618138
In fact the only negatives I can think of are the back flexing inwards by like 0.1mm and not being able to use shortcuts from any app.

LG V10 > NOTE 5

It's actually split pretty 50/50 for people. You either have a buggy POS or a pretty nice mid to high range phone. The keyboard is preference though.
>>
>>51618086
Because I don't want a phone above 4.3/.7 inches in my pocket and I want to use the top right of my phone with one hand.

But I also want to read books and take notes on Keep or One Note, so a tablet is good to have for those.

Ew, hardware will always be better to have. Cases on phone are ugly 8/10. Bt LE is better than other gens, but I still don't trust it running 24/7.

Native H-Keyboards will always be better.
>>
>>51618255

They only reason to buy it is the keyboard, and even then you're overpaying by 200 bucks over phones with similar specs

Then there's all that blackberry bloat...
>>
>>51618298
No, most of those reviewers are pointing out that it's battery is bad, the keyboard is cramped and crappy compared to previous blackberry keyboards, it overheats quite significantly, the build quality is poor, and the specs are 6 months behind for a flagship.

It's only redeeming quality is they okayish keyboard.

what. The only bloat I have is from ATT which I can disable all of. The blackberry apps are actually good, aside from BBM which I will never use so I disabled.

Most people also don't need all Google services that come stock and don't use apps when the screen is off. It's merely fixing the quirks of Android rather than the quirks of your beloved BB phone.

You can continue to be this immature about all this, m8. Can't fathom why someone enjoying what they paid for, trying to ensure you that it's not as bad as you think it is makes you this autistic.

Hey, dude from Poland here.
So...
I have 700 pln = $174.
For this price I can get Lumia 640 XL, Redmi Note 2 or Huawei P8 (this one only with T-Mobile contract). What I want is good (for that price range) rear camera and no lags on (mostly) social apps. I'd like to play a game or two like Asphalt, but I can live without it.
And you know, quite long battery life would be also much appreciated.

Wew, lad.

But you do need to grow up, you're getting worked up about an argument over a phone.

Literally 8/10 people here has the same sentiments about you taking what you see in reviews too literally. The people who do these reviews over criticise oems to encourage them to improve, they're like the last line or R&D

You're not wrong in saying that stock battery life is a good comparison or some, but its not that big an argument when you get a phone with h-keyboard, trackpad, really decent cam and screen

That's one disadvantage out of 4

Also, what you're saying is really contradictory, I am standing behind something, you're the one that deviated from the argument by calling me a shill when I made a legit point on how battery and heat issues aren't as big an issue that you make it to be, which other people here confirmed.

That behavior in itself is immature, because you can't own up to being wrong

You can't really leave the S6 and note5 off, even if you want to because of whatever autism needs you think you have about removable battery and mSD cards.

They have the most powerful SoC you can get in an android phone, and it has been that way since it was released in april 2015, and it will be that way until x20, SD820, or Exynos 8890 is released.

No matter how much you personally dont like them, they are the most powerful, plain and simple, SOME people on /g/ respect hardware over anything else, so they will buy the hardware king regardless of who makes it.

If I don't want to buy it and try it, I don't have to. That's the beauty of life.

But I won't feign from buying something I'm interested in because people on YouTube and Reddit says it has "shit battery life" when I know how to fix that shit easily.

I'd do the same tweak on a s6, Z5, and v10 (which has even a shitier battery life) I rather make my own review myself and sell it if I don't like it.

Also, I'm not going to notice the speed difference between an octo core 810 and a hexa core 808. Because I haven't obsessed over benchmarks and gaymes since your age.

It's not just this one thing, the phone has far too many strikes against it to make it worth it at that price.

If it was just an "okay" battery life, but everything else was great, it would not be an issue.

I just got my first Android phone, a Nexus 6. I've been installing update after update and just remembered that I should unlock the bootloader. I've looked up some tutorials (one said that it voids the warranty, but I've always heard that unlocking the bootloader and rooting didn't affect Nexus warranties) and they warn me to back up my phone (still need to learn how to do that, I'll look it up) and just restore it afterword. I have nothing on my phone, I haven't even put in my contacts yet. Literally all I've done is install some OS updates, so do I even need to worry about backing anything up? Won't it basically be like a factory reset? Or will it reset my OS back to 5.0? I'm on 5.1.1 right now, I haven't installed 6.0 yet, I had planned to do that before unlocking the bootloader.

Samsung's S6 and Note 5 are cheaper, buying an unlocked Moto X Pure or 6p is cheaper, HTC is always cheaper, Windows phones are cheaper...

Try harder faggot

Also, the Note 5 scores far better on benchmarks, has a better display, better cameras, not sure about the battery because I've not bothered to look, but the Note 5 is a far better device.

Any flagship from Samsung, Nexus, Motorola, LG certainly is.

It's not like that, actually. Comparing a car to a phone is retarded. You can drive to a gas station (with your phone plugged in). >>
>>51620991
Your standards are unrealistic. People who buy flagships dont go fucking camping with them every week. These are people who have access to quick chargers(which most flagships support) nearly the entire day either from school or work.

3-5 hours of SoT is standard for flagships and more than enough for regular people.

And it is completely like that. You buy a ferrari(flagship) because you want performance and design, you don't buy it for the gas mileage. With more power comes more consumption that's how its always been and always will be.

Flagship gaming rigs don't heat up to the point of unusability after 30 minutes of banging hookers and stealing cars; shelling out damn near $1000 for a flagship phone should get me top tier battery tech and top tier hardware/software combination to get the most out of that tech.
>>
>>51621224
No but gaming rigs do use a shit ton more power than a standard cubicle excel machine.

That's fine, Dude. But the first complaint every person has had about the latest Samsung flagships is shitty battery. Maybe Samsung needs to try harder to respond to its customer base. Apple manages a far better balance while sacrificing very little in performance. Not shilling (I'm typing this on a Nexus 6p), just saying.
>>
>>51621292
Apple does it because they fucking wrote the OS and they design the only devices that run it. If Google designed their own phone with CPU and everything I'm sure they'd get similar performance to Apple.

It's amazing we get as good performance as we do from third parties making their phones based on Android.

Hey, me again. I've been reading those and watching some videos and I'm about to go ahead and unlock the bootloader. If you don't mind, there's just one question I want to ask since I didn't see it mentioned anywhere I looked. According to those threads if you follow the How to guide I found with Marshmallow, things will get corrupted. Looks like there's an easy fix, but right now I'm one 5.1.1, so it shouldn't be an issue for me. Will I have to worry once I do install Marshmallow after unlocking the bootloader though? Or is it a problem that you should only run into if you unlock the bootloader while on Marshmallow?

>>

If you plan to actually use your phone then the battery is atrocious on all iphones

the standby time is better than android though
>>
>>51622080
Note5 for watching movies, the edge screen wastes pixels and the edge and can distract you during movies, it is also just less easy to hold in the hand.
Also if you plan on getting the GearVR the note5 will offer a slightly larger FOV which helps with immersion.
>>
>>51622222
>standby time is better than android
This can be changed on marshmallow. If you root you can modify to Doze to activate like ten minutes after the screen was turned on even if it's in your pocket. This makes standby stupidly long.
>>
Holy shit the Nexus 5x is $350 for the 32GB version. Should I cop that or the Moto X Pure?
>>
>>51621697

Anyone at all?
>>
>>51622201
Pros
>Faster updates than any other phone
>Lots of developer support
>Beautiful screen and high resolution
>High end hardware

Cons
>Bends
>Glass on the back breaks randomly for some people
>Camera has no OIS

That's pretty much it. If you've got the money, there's literally no other phone you should consider.
The order of phones you should consider buying (in price order) is:
Nexus 6p
Moto X Pure
Oneplus X
Moto G
Moto E
>>
>>51622310
>The order of phones you should consider buying (in price order) is:
for you maybe

Note5 would be top of the list for me personally. I cant afford one though.
>>
>>51622271
Moto X Pure is a better device in every way with the exception of update speed and finger print scanner.

I have the Pure and one of my friend's got the 5x about a month ago. The bezels are stupidly large, the audio quality is lesser compared to the x pure (both speaker and headset), Ambient display on the nexus is a piece of shit compared to Moto Display, it has a tiny battery, only 1920 x 1080 display, and the 2GB of RAM is not enough to stop the phone from lagging during multitasking.
>>
>no Z3 compact in the op
Guys
>>
>>51622328
What about the Note appeals to you? Samsung phones generally tend to have the best hardware but touchwizz slows them down more than most other phones.

It's also my understanding that even after rooting it is not possible to install custom ROM's not based on touchwizz.
>>
>>51622340
You mean z5?
>>
>>51622365
The ratio price quality is better for the Z3 compact desu
>>
>>51622380
But there are current phones out with good price/performance as well.
>>
>>51622355
Personally? Spen, GearVR, AES encryption that doesnt cause lag, fantastic camera, samsung pay.

I personally see no point in rooting anymore, I would rather have samsung pay than root, and most custom ROMs ended up breaking older generation note Spens.

But again, I can't afford one right now so moot point for me. Maybe in a few months when the S7 comes out it might be cheaper.
>>
>>51622418
Google Cardboard is compatible with every android phone, but other than that those are all valid reasons.

To each his own, I guess. Personally I favor phones that come with the least amount of bloat as possible, and then I can pick and choose what I want. I would never get a samsung device basically for the exact reasons you would get one. I will never use an s pen, virtual reality, or any kind of "phone" pay available. I'd rather have a phone that doesn't force those things on me.
>>
>>51622302
how would things get corrupted when all you do is unlock the bootloader? not much will change between Lollipop and Marshmallow in terms of doing that.
>>
Since Moto X pure is unlocked, where do I find deals?

Also, should I get droid turbo from Verizon since it's half off today?
>>
>>51622456

Well, according to a thread on the XDA forums

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/repairing-nexus-6-marshmallow-6-0-t3241976

it seems that following the Nexus 6 All in One guide works great for everyone but Marshmallow users, but something hasn't yet been updated for Marshmallow and it'll result in corruption (which is easily fixed). But again, I'm on 5.1.1 right now, so I should be able to follow the old guide without incident, I'm just not sure if things will cock up when I upgrade to Marshmallow afterword, or if it'll go smoothly.
>>
>>51622489
Don't get droid turbo unless there's a bootloader unlock for it.

As for moto x pure, I just bought mine "used." It said used online, but when I got it it was in the original casing and everything even with all the factory plastic on and shit. Only problem was that I didn't get to customize it, but since it came in all black I'm perfectly happy with it.

I suppose, they are all things I would want to use though, I have a Note3, so i know I would use the spen already. I have played with my friends GearVR on the note4 and it was fantastic, way better than cardboard was to be honest, I dont consider them in the same league at all.

Some call it bloat, but if it's shit I actually want...

i would say probably not because the corruption would be a result of the direct process relating to marshmallow, where as if you unlocked the bootloader on lollipop and came over to marshmallow that process has been completed prior. but like always, you are under your own risk when doing things like this.

Blackberry camera

Blackberry Messenger

DTEK

Blackberry encryption

Blackberry custom launcher

It's literally not stock Android, just because it looks like it mostly, doesn't mean it is.

Messenger can be turned off
Camera you can disable and use a different app, although I don't know who the fuck considers a camera to be bloatware like are you fucked

DTEK can be disabled

The device is encrypted yes, but that's not bloat

Launcher can also be disabled but it's actually really functional and well done

And that's your argument? It's encrypted? It has a custom camera and launcher like almost every other phone?

And it took you hours to come up with this
>>
>>51622670
Yes, unfortunately the new moto g does not support CDMA, so it will not work with Verizon.

Probably the worst thing about Verizon is that there are almost no budget phones compatible with their network.

Right, of course that stuff can be disabled, like like every Samsung app and the launcher on touchwiz.

Doing that doesn't make touchwiz go away, it's still there.

Not even the Moto phones use stock android.

Sure, it's closer to stock than some but it's not as close as Moto, especially considering the DTEK security protocol stuff.
>>
>>51622745
Touchwhiz fundamentally fucks with android

And to consider security bloat, jesus christ. They encrypted the phone and its suddenly not stock? You realize the 5X has encryption too right?

>>
>>51622767
Blackberry's encryption isn't software, which actually is a good thing unlike the 5x which is software only.

Yeah, that's not stock.

Adding hardware encryption keys, and then also using a custom "sercurity hardened" kernel for Android is indeed fucking with Android quite a bit.

You know those rubbery looking lines on iPhone's and all aluminum phones? Those are because Aluminum reflects cellular waves and there needs to be a place for them to come out.

Nexus thought they'd be cool by putting it under a giant glass visor. It looks kind of cool but I wouldn't use it without a case.

It's also the reason for the giant plastic plate on the bottom of the back on all the 6Ps.
>>
>>51618136
I got mine in the mail today. Have yet to open in but I was really worried about performance and battery.

If I'm not gonna get a new phone for like 2 years I don't want it to lag in the second year. Also batteries tend to be shit. My Nexus 5 wouldn't make it through a day.

I bought a Nexus 6 during Amazon's Black Friday sale. Seems like a pretty nice phone so far, but the Marshmallow update isn't available for some reason. I did some Googling and it looks like it's pretty easy to unlock the bootloader and install it yourself, but I'm having second thoughts after reading a thread linked earlier http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/repairing-nexus-6-marshmallow-6-0-t3241976

I've found numerous tutorials and videos on the subject that don't mention this at all. Maybe it only happens if you follow those instructions for unlocking and rooting if you're already on Marshmallow. Can anyone confirm? Basically, I'm looking for some (hopefully true) accounts where someone used a guide while still on Lollipop to unlock the bootloader and flash Marshmallow without anything horrible happening. I was thinking about using the one one gottabemobile (I'd post the link but who knows what'll get you autobanned these days).
