Jesus Christ, did I do the equivalent of walking into an open-source fanclub (which, let's be honest, is probably in some sunlightless cave illuminated only by 100 Hz+ monitors) and crack a fart that sounded exactly like "Windows is a superior operating system because I don't know how to use Linux".

I just wanted to know if the W10 upgrade was as suspicious as it made me feel. Fuck.

You're so retarded that you think there are no choices other than Windows and Linux, and specifically that Arch and Gentoo is all that Linux is, assured that not even Linux Mint is a possible thing. Unlike others, however, I'll give you three more choices:
A) A fork of http://github.com/mig-hub/MikeOS is as free as many other alternatives.
B) In this day, comparable to Windows 10, a Mac is much less locked-down by at least allowing choices on automatic updates, and also actually less expensive than something with Windows as this pic shows (specifically with a $399 Windows system, and something more common is far above that).
C) http://www.android-x86.org/ (seriously, it's by far much less bloated and also easier to use on a desktop than Windows 8 has been)
D) Otherwise, you can stay retarded and just suck on those balls.

No.

1) Sound is fucky. Every time I rebooted, my System Sounds volume was maxed. I'd run it down. Every time a UAC prompt (or any other system sound) played, it would max itself out again. The only fix was to leave the volume mixer open in the background. I still had to fix it EVERY FUCKING REBOOT. After playing a system sound a few times, system sounds would stop working entirely. What the fuck? There are plenty of other people with the same experience.

2) The UI is fragmented and shitty. Battleship gray Win95 down deep. Metro up top. Duplo XP in the middle. It's just a fuckfest.

3) Which window is active? I have no idea. Every fucking window has a white non-client area. The only indication that a window is active is the slight blue glow and the red close button. Unless, of course, the application draws its own non-client area.

3) Metro apps doing fucky shit in the background. My D drive was going insane all the time. Turns out it was the Photos metro app scanning my thousands of photos. I have no use for that shit (I use Lightroom). This was completely opaque and undiscoverable. All metro apps run under "System Broker" or something vague like that, and you have no idea which individual Metro apps are causing CPU/disk usage. It's ridiculous.

4) Your (unknown) key is now tied to your motherboard. The reason I finally reverted to 8.1 (and dual-booting Linux) is because my motherboard went bad. I replaced it and now my Win 10 install needed "activation". You can't activate it. They tell you to repave with Win 8 and upgrade again. Fuck that, I repaved with Win 8.1 and will leave it there.

The only things that Win 10 added are better provided by free software. Win 8.1 + Classic Shell is a great desktop. Win 8.1 + VirtuaWin is great virtual desktop management (incidentally, Win32 has ALWAYS had virtual desktops via the API, they just didn't provide a UI for managing them).
